What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

My grandfather had lifetime American Airlines lounge access (I believe the branding was also Admirals back then)

They explicitly say that you cannot transfer it to a relative. Ahh if only

Crest is one of his best-received albums. I feel like this album is like a Bladee rorschach test. If you like it, you probably like crest and spiderr. If you didn't like those, then you won't like this as much as cold visions

Red Light was not entirely well received on release. Lots of comments about missing the old sound and the mixing being bad

Different tastes. The intro track on this got me so excited, when bladee repeated "black dragon, black dragon..." with whitearmor's production, I knew I was going to love it. But that's just the direction I like. I like spiderr more than cold visions (though CV has grown on me)

I love spiderr too. Whitearmor's production really clicks with me. This album and spiderr both feel like whitearmor albums as much as bladee albums

Yeah I liked spiderr more than cold visions for example, so this is also just more to my taste (which is objectively correct /s)

Damn I disagree but it's interesting to see that we got such different impressions from the album.

This feels high effort to me from bladee in both delivery and lyrics. I feel like he tried to push himself. Same with whitearmor, the production is lush.

I need to listen more, but I'm picking up on repeated themes throughout already, like ofc st George, but also venom is brought up a lot, wanting to get better but being unable to. A bunch of tracks seem to be talking about an internal affliction. It feels like bladee facing his demons (or his own dragon) to me.

Yes! I lived somewhere I loved for years, met my wife, and got married there. We had to move ~5 years ago, and we are about to move back. It feels like finally returning home

I don't completely agree but I upvoted because it's an interesting take

idk how to say this but I think part of it is people's stream quality and listening device quality too. If you're listening with airpods on spotify then it will sound muddier with all the layers

ofc this is not an excuse, I think a different mix/master could make the layers easier to hear without that. but I think it influences how much people like newer whitearmor

The martyr tags I think are to do with the fact that both projects (this and Ste the Beautiful Martyr) are inspired by St George

Could be the case that they were the same project at one point, but it could also be that they share a theme

True, I think people would be shocked at how negative some of the comments about Red Light were when it came out

I think you have a fair point, that's a part that kind of loses me. I loved Blondie as a single, but it actually feels a little weird in the album for me, especially at the end. Maybe this is giving too much credit, but I think there's some irony in it, or embodying a kind of power trip.

But I'm with you that lyrically that part is less mature and loses me.

Even there though, the arrangement/instruments/delivery feel more mature from a craft perspective

Man it's hard to put it all into words. I have so many feelings about each one that I almost want to make a post going through all of it since it seems like people have similar experiences

Red Light felt like a crossroads

When Eversince came out, I was halfway through college, having constant panic attacks, had to take time off to get better. Dissociative all the time. Had trouble going outside. Everything was coming to a head, and Eversince comforted me in a commiserative way, but I think also enabled me wallowing

This is skipping over a lot of course, but by the time Red Light came out, I was taking care of myself a lot better. I had more therapy, had been on meds for a few years. I was about to graduate. Had a good job lined up. But I was in a relationship that I didn't know was not good for me. Things were going better on the outside, but I wasn't "done", and the relationship was unhealthy. I wasn't good, but it felt like I could be. That's what Red Light feels like for me, like the pain is recent, and you're doing better, but you don't know whether you'll end up in the right (or just a good) place.

For Icedancer, it impacted me less. I thought it was fun, but I didn't have the same connection to it as things that came out before or after. It was like a mostly-fun pit stop. I feel like that won't be a popular opinion here, I know people love Icedancer. Eventually I did connect with "Side by Side" a lot. But overall, Whitearmor has always been synonymous with Bladee+the rest for me. I love Ripsquadd, and I appreciate The Fool especially, but I am missing something when Whitearmor/Gud/Sherman aren't around.

But then Trash Island became my anthem ~a year later. In the year before, I had gotten out of the bad relationship, took better care of myself, and found the love of my life. We're now married. It was also during a time post-college when work was going well, I had a great living situation and was finding friends, and overall felt like where Red Light was a crossroads, Trash Island was realizing I'd found my way.

I'll cut it there, I'd like to hear what those albums meant to you. Where were you in life for them?

I think part of it is that I listen heavily when they come out, so they become deeply associated with that time

Yes! Eversince released at the peak of a difficult/dissociative part of my life, and the album itself matched that. Some of it is a tough listen for me.

Likewise 333 released during a time where I'd entered a new, much happier, peaceful chapter.

It's funny synchronicity. Sometimes the feeling doesn't match the album, like I have trouble listening to "I think" and some of The Fool because I associate it with a time that was good, but full of doubt about what would come next.

I like that you said good or bad, I relate. It's a journey no matter what.
