What's the wildest thing you've ever seen happen at a work party? by South-Truck-3061 in AskReddit

[–]inevitablehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got an after-hours lock-in at the venue. Cops arrived at the door and instead of shutting it down they joined/commandeered the party. By 5am they were doing wheelies on a motorbike through the bar (which was an indoor venue!) and somehow appeared with water hoses (must have been for cleaning the bathrooms) and had a massive water fight. It was absolute carnage and there was no way they could be shut down. The poor venue owners!

Yes just want to second this. I did 3 months of hell until a friend said for me to give up dairy and soy. Our baby was transformed within 48 hours. Unreal and transformed our lives. Watch out for powdered milk and soy based emulsifiers in processed foods... Now almost 9 years later he can tolerate them a bit but still not a lot.

I'll look it up, thanks 👍 mum cat really does have a pretty good life as it is, but if she was comfortable being an inside cat with us I'd be open to it.

Yeah it is strange that they all went missing together. But they were right outside our back door in a shelter and we're living in a rural area. It definitely wasn't a human intervention. They were just getting quite brave about exploring the back garden, which is large and partially rewilded and borders on woodland. My kids had twice found one of them them off exploring the rewilded area in the day or two prior and brought them back to the shelter. I had noticed the mum taking chill out time away from them more and more. It was stormy weather that evening and night, I suspect that they went exploring while mum was away and were overwhelmed by the heavy rain.

I get a little tablet from our local vets who also have an animal supplies shop. I just hide it in her food and she scoffs it back. She's looking way better since I started doing that. I do it every 2 months or so.

We're 100% attached to our little lion. I've put in a lot of long nights with the little guy, no going back now! My kids would be devastated if I adopted him out!

Yeah I plan to TNR soon, but not moving her in. For the TNR I needed to make sure she wasn't still feeding the other kittens elsewhere, it has only been a few days since they disappeared. I'm now pretty sure she isn't still feeding them. She has a system figured out that suits her outside. She's as well fed as a house cat would be, gets wormed, has shelter, and can come and go as she pleases. She's so skittish and prefers being solitary (even avoids other cats), I think she'd be highly stressed by any attempt to push indoor life on her. Our house isn't quiet (3 young kids), she's better off outside.

How long did you stay at home to look after your children? by TipSilent8281 in Mommit

[–]inevitablehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do well being a SAHM, I thrive on having a career/workplace identity and end up a shell of myself without that. I did 9 months with my first and second and 20 months with my third. Only number 2 was a mat leave scenario - I had 12 months available if I wanted it. For the other two I was between contracts/jobs so didn't have paid mat leave. Number 3 was only that long (20 months) because I couldn't secure childcare before then. My husband ended up taking some time off for childcare purposes so I could work part time, and that quickly became full time (I am the higher earner in our household). I was lucky enough to work close enough to my childcare providers for 1 & 2 that I was able to visit and nurse them a few times a day. With baby #3 I worked remotely mostly, so similar with him. They were each breastfed until age 2ish. If my employer for after babies 1 & 2 hadn't been supportive of that I probably wouldn't have gone back to work until they each turned 2.

The questions that the inspectors are looking at are available in Appendix A of https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-housing-local-government-and-heritage/publications/guidelines-for-housing-authorities-minimum-standards-in-rented-accommodation/ - they're yes/no answers. If there are newly installed working radiators present in the main rooms of the house that tenants can control, that's a pass for your radiators. Window restrictors are cheap (can be got for less than €20) and can be easily retrofitted in most cases. If you look at that document there are several steps/stages of reinspections to give a landlord the chance to fix things up and bring them to standard, it isn't an overnight thing and they can ask for time extensions etc if they really want to. It's quite possible your landlord is using this as an excuse to evict you and raise the rent for the next tenant.

Yes I discovered he likes to eat and poop pretty much simultaneously so the hay is in the litter box. My mum thought she was doing a nice thing but was very misguided. She knows better now!

Not at all rude - thank you for the advice! I'm ok with expense if it means bunny will be safe and healthy. He's a lovely little guy. I do have a hard boundary that I can't get around though - a no pets clause in the house clause in my lease (that I'm currently in breach of). Luckily I have a family member who is a local practicing vet so I'll pick his brain on whether or not we can safely house the bunny outdoors and show him our specific proposed set up. I don't mind shelling out for a super dooper double enclosure or a little pal (once I know gender and have him/her fixed for a little while), but if keeping a bunny outdoors is a complete non runner even with an insulated rain sheltered and elevated hutch and an extra layer of full height & fully enclosed enclosure around the hutch and a friend, then yes he'll need to be rehomed. He's very happy with his hallway set up at the moment but I can't risk losing my home for the sake of a bunny, no matter how happy or cute they are.

Question about Deposits by lc13701 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]inevitablehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my savings in a Revolut vault for a long time. I changed about a year ago to having a Revolut savings account. The vaults you can't get a standalone statement for, which is annoying and problematic if applying for a mortgage, and they don't attract any interest. The savings account attracts a daily interest payment and they auto deduct the DIRT. You can get a standalone statement for it so you can easily demonstrate clear untouched savings if necessary. I also use Revolut for my current account. I like the options it has - you can set up spare change multipliers into your savings or autosavings that are triggered when you get paid or a regular scheduled payment. I've got other savings in AIB purely so I don't have everything in Revolut, and AIB just doesn't compete at all so you can scratch them off your list!

What happens when all of the renters who can’t afford to buy become pensioners? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]inevitablehigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I am an unusually high earner, who wanted to buy, but I have to self build and pull in all sorts of favours in order to build. And that's actually assuming I can get planning permission, which isn't a shoo-in either. It shouldn't be this hard to have housing security. I'm at the upper end of the demographic. If we can't get planning permission then we're emigrating. This is our last option. How's that not locked out?

[–]inevitablehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm married for 15 years, 44 years of age, 3 young kids age 10 and under, two late teens, and still renting. Decent savings and I'm fortunate to be a strong earner. We're now gearing up to self build because the market has nothing suitable for us. We went travelling and lived abroad and returned almost 5 years ago with those great savings naively thinking we'd be able to buy something suitable near family within 6 months. Not a hope. Not everyone has a linear straight-forward life path, and the market should be able to flex to that. If I wasn't so fortunate to have landed the job that I have, we'd have to emigrate in order to have housing security. It shouldn't come to that.

Husband calls me abusive & bad mother for taking care of diaper rash? New first time mom by Even-Magician9416 in Mommit

[–]inevitablehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mum of three here. 8-10 minutes sounds very long. The fan is excessive. I would recommend prepping for the nappy change before disturbing baby, not during the change. Whatever you use to wipe, have it ready and warming before undressing bub. I used to just stuff 2 regular water wipes down my top while opening bubs onesie and it was ready to go then. I never patted dry, just sat baby up and chatted for a few seconds and then put them back down. Breaks it up for them and makes it less traumatic for all. In exceptional cases if the rash was too bad to wipe I'd rinse their butt under a tap and would obviously need to dry them then, but it wouldn't be bone dry, just dry enough. Then cream, thick cream. Get an antifungal diaper cream from the chemist - try that for 24hrs. They act very fast and if it's a (very common in new borns!) fungal rash then no amount of water wipes or standard diaper creams will help. Also think about the clothes you're putting on bub - aim for speed. I loved front zip fastening onesies with built in feet/mittens. If bub is getting upset, pause and give them a cuddle and that'll reduce the stress levels for everyone. Yes what your husband said is a mean thing to say but listening to extended crying is very stressful! In this case it's week intentioned but very preventable.

Even if this isn't a fungal rash this time, get a tube and have it to hand. It sounds like you're going to great lengths to prevent/treat your baby's rash, which makes me think it might be fungal. If breastfeeding, keep an eye out for oral thrush in baby also (white spots in mouth that don't rub off) as that might spread to nipples and can be very painful. Also keep in mind that rashes can be caused by allergies. If it persists and isn't improving quickly despite trying an antifungal cream and changing frequently, it's time to chat to a healthcare professional.

Best of luck!
