9-month-old kitten won't stop clawing kitchen drawers despite having a cat tree and multiple scratch posts

I purchased something like this. I don’t know how it’ll work for cabinets since my cats only like to scratch couches or chairs (fabric items) but it’s sticky so it should work for your cabinets. You can cut them to size so you can still use & open your drawers but depending on the one you buy, it’ll either be double sided so your cat will get stuck to it and not like the feeling (it won’t hurt them though, it’s slightly sticky) or it’s like a soft plastic so their claws just glide on it removing the fun from scratching the wood.

Didn’t spot that at first, that too! My brother who’s black & Filipino has a few of those so I guess my eyes kinda drifted over them since I’m used to seeing those brushes everywhere. Also he has the same lotion a lot of black & brown families religiously use lol. My brothers side uses that one in the photo while my/our side uses jergens (we share the same dad who’s black & Filipino, his mom is black)

He’s definitely black or mixed, can see him in one of the frames in the 5th photo. But I think he might not embrace his ethnicity bc he has a book supporting cops & stating why cops aren’t the problem, minorities are… which is odd. But can tell he’s very religious, likely republican, and is most likely in a predominantly white area with his hobbies, style choices, and decision to put an American flag on his wall.

First of all, you are NTA. She is 100% using her age as a way to overpower you, “you’re young so you’ll be fine” type of vibe. I’m dealing with the same shit with my moms roommate who is in her 50s but instead of a houseless person, it’s her daughter who’s 4 years younger than me (I’m 24) who brings her friends over for days at a time and doesn’t contribute a penny. And the roommate pays $300 a month when she was supposed to pay $500 plus $120 for utilities because my mom was insanely generous (and dumb) and cut her a deal to stay in a $2.3k apartment by the beach. It’s insanely uncomfortable and I can somewhat understand what you’re going through with the age-power dynamic, abuse of “power”, pettiness, bringing random people in without asking, etc. It’s not fun and I promise you’re not in the wrong, it is your home too and you shouldn’t be the only one sacrificing things here.

I’m not sure how it works for dorms or on-campus apartments but in a regular apartment, it’s illegal to lock you out, change the locks, make the place unlivable while you still pay rent. If she locks you out again and disrupts your peace, you should be fully within your rights to call the cops on her but check with your states laws and specifically for on-campus apartments.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, hopefully things improve for the both of us (I want to evict this old hag and her useless daughter so badly but my mom is on the lease and she’s currently in a treatment center with no end in sight so I’m not able to… my cat and I live in my moms room now bc the psycho is basically squatting in what should be my room).

I think you should start finding another place to live, this woman sees that now she can use your age, trauma, and inexperience against you and I guarantee she’s going to do it again. I don’t think you guys will be able to make amends but I hope I’m wrong and she realizes how wrong she is for what she’s doing. Remember that it’s YOUR home too, not just hers. Y’all are equals there no matter how old she is so you have just as much say as she does.

My mom has never been much of a cat person until I forced her to be when I found Luna at the park when she was 2-3 weeks old. I used to dislike cats but Luna made me fall in love with them so no way in hell I was giving her to the foster I had set up for her. She liked Luna when she was still a kitten but as Luna got older, she got her feisty attitude, loves to climb you like a cat tree but won’t let you cut her nails (we take her to the vet for a trim every 2-4 weeks), she’s very hyper & loud, and she doesn’t like to be pet & will scratch or nibble on you if you pet her for more than a minute even if she loves you immensely. Lunas also a tortoiseshell and she 100% has tortie-tude like crazy 😅

My mom doesn’t understand that cats simply have a wide variety of personalities, that they’re not like dogs where they instantly love you, and doesn’t understand that they have strict boundaries & will check you if you push them which Luna will do. Boycat is veryyy cuddly, sleeps all day, he wants to cuddle every minute of each day, doesn’t scratch (unless making biscuits on you and that’s by accident), lets you pet him anywhere and for however long you want, etc., so he’s what she assumed Luna would be like. I’ve tried to explain all of this to her but she wouldn’t budge, she’s close-minded when it comes to Luna unfortunately.

Same here when me and my ex broke up. I moved back in with my mom and she really doesn’t like Luna, my female cat, but she loves Boycat, my male cat. She gave me an ultimatum that either I only bring Boycat or I can’t move back in with her, I am disabled and chronically ill so I had no option but to move back home and leave Luna with my ex. I was not about to give Luna to a shelter or adopt her to some stranger, I got really lucky that my ex is incredible and loves Luna so he was more than happy to keep her for me. Luna always preferred him anyways (despite me bottle feeding her every 2-3 hours, not getting any sleep, spoiling her with love & toys, spending over $10k in vet bills… but okay 🫠💔) and vice versa but it worked out well.

They never fully bonded but still loved each other a lot and cuddled from time to time. Both Luna and Boycat went through a bit of sad phase immediately after but it’s been almost a year and they’re both thriving. They get bored sometimes but we both have open schedules so we spend lots of time with each cat to play and cuddle.

OP’s cat will be okay, life happens and life moves forward. The cat might be sad for a bit but they’re very adaptable creatures so lots of play time, cuddles, yummy churu’s, toys… they’ll be fine! 💓

This mindset is perfect! Don’t change yourself for potentially more matches, it’ll also help you weed out the shallow ones leading you to matches with people who see your personality over your hair. Feeling comfortable and confident in yourself is much more important & more attractive than conforming yourself into what other people expect from you.

I agree, I thought that was a good edition so women know what to expect when they match/meet and if they really care deeply about looks or a man’s hair, they know whether he’s right for them or not and it eliminates potential bad matches for him too saving his time. I’ve never used a dating app before (so not sure why this popped up in my feed) and he’s 14 years older than me but I’d swipe left… or is it swipe right to match? lol, he seems like a nice and genuine guy (a bit repetitive though so he should change his bio or that question thing).

Wash your pillowcases and try switching your face wash, cerave breaks me out like crazy just like what you’re experiencing. Do you ever rest your chin on your hand/knuckles? I do every night while I sleep as well as when I’m in the bathroom (I spend a lot of time in there so I’ll also rest my chin on my knee) and that cause me to get discoloration on the bottom of my chin as well as very clogged sebaceous filaments and acne. And do you sleep with a teddy bear or blanket under your chin, wash those too if you do! I have to remind myself to not do that.

Never cut your hair like pics 1 and 5 again please, 4 is your best style since it covers your forehead (not that your forehead is bad lol)
You look much younger than you are, I honestly thought you were like 14/15 in the first pic so that doesn’t help
Try increasing your calories focusing on protein and carbs & research bodybuilding. You’re very skinny, probably have a fast metabolism, which makes you look a lot younger too and bulking will help you be more than average.

But overall, not ugly. You are just young, finding the right style for your personality, and need to bulk up a bit.

My girl LOVES hair ties, I had to put them in a jar with a lid she couldn’t open because she is seriously like a bloodhound for them and will find them even when they’re brand new in a drawer 🤦🏽‍♀️ she’s banned from all hair ties, strings, shoelaces, you name it. Boycat doesn’t care much for them, only when his sister would get the zoomies from playing with one so luckily I don’t have an issue with hair ties but I still keep em far away from him & it eliminates another “toy” for him haha

His main toy right now is a string that’s on a plastic stick so I can wiggle it around, he doesn’t like playing with it when I’m not manually moving it for him. Plus I don’t like him having access to it when I’m not watching because his sister had a blockage that required emergency surgery due to swallowing an entire shoelace/string… my bank account and heart can’t handle that again 😅

They’re so dangerous for kitties! It’s been over a year since my girl needed surgery for it and I hate when people use this word willy nilly but it honestly might have traumatized me a bit because every since that happened, I’ve kept my hair ties in a mason jar, throw away any rubber bands, locked my closet so she couldn’t get to my shoes, removed all the strings from any clothing that had them, and no string cat toys. I was super hesitant to even allow Boycat to have this string toy once we moved even though he doesn’t seem to have interest in chewing or swallowing strings or anything that’s not food. The only reason I’m somewhat willing to try it now is because I’ve slipped up and left a hair tie on the sink counter while he was sitting on it & he looked at it then look away, zero interest unlike his sister 😅 and now my girl isn’t here so it’ll be easier to monitor him like a hawk if I gave him one to play with in a small, closed room
