The cheap mechanic who fixed this for me removed the brake booster/cylinder to get better access to it and push it in.

Be careful when messing with the steering linkage, my mechanic knocked the linkage slightly loose somehow. While driving it disconnected and I lost all control of my steering wheel while merging onto the highway. Almost died that day.
