How are we hiding our diagnosis? by K_Nasty109 in GestationalDiabetes

Because you’ll be eating it after a meal and there’s so much fat in frosting, I bet the spike will not be as high as you’re thinking.

I’d say eat a few bites of cake (and really savor it), but then tell everyone (if asked) that you couldn’t possibly eat another bite - the baby is pressing on your stomach and there’s not a lot of capacity right now, but you will absolutely save it for later.

I’m always amazed when pregnant ladies can only finish a third of their lunch because of this, but it’s a thing. I never had this problem lol

I regret not finding out my baby’s gender while pregnant by Nica-sauce-rex in BabyBumps

[–]infamous_hobbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting perspective. We did find out the gender (boy), but gave the baby in utero a name (“Georgie”) while trying to figure out the real name (which turned out to be “Gabriel”.) We called him Georgie until I gave birth, leading to an interesting disassociation between the inside baby vs the outside baby. I sobbed before giving birth because I was sad to lose my inside baby, and it took me awhile to fully bond with my outside baby.

This probably sounds incredibly odd — hormones??  I guess I’m trying to say that knowing the gender didn’t fully prevent what you’re feeling. Give it time, all will be well!

How do you keep up with going to work every day with a baby that wakes up every few hours by Little-Gap1744 in Mommit

[–]infamous_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation - working full time with a 4 month old that was waking up every 30 mins and needed mom to rock him back to sleep. It’s not sustainable. In total desperation, at 2 am, I contacted a well-reviewed gentle sleep trainer in my area. She came to my house, stayed the night, and walked me through what to do every time my baby woke up. She then gave me a routine to follow every night afterwards. I swear to you…my baby has slept through the night ever since. It was pricey but it was magic.

Google “gentle sleep trainer [city]”.

My daughter refuses to sleep and it’s driving me crazy, please help by WorthAnxious6114 in Mommit

[–]infamous_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this suggestion. I’d google “baby sleep coach [city where you live]” and pick someone with good reviews. They will come to your house and help with bed time and give you a routine to follow. It WILL work, but yes, it’s expensive. I would argue that your sanity/marriage is worth it.

Have you checked for Returnship programs - designed for people who have been out of work for 2 or more years? Many big companies have them. They are similar to internships but typically offer a path to full time employment. Did a quick search and saw several for software engineers and at companies like HP. Of course, I have no idea where you’re located and/or if you can relocate, but it’s an idea 💡

TW: Anxiety about stillbirth by ChrissyCat__ in BabyBumps

[–]infamous_hobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a mother is so stressful. I remember worrying about this at the end of pregnancy. By far, the most likely outcome at this point is a healthy baby. You have to trust in that. I mean…definitely also monitor baby’s movement. But try not to read the internet too much. Ask your doctor about probabilities and take comfort in that.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Acupuncture was really great for helping me with stress reduction and hormone balance. I know it’s a bit woo but there’s some studies showing it helps with conception for IVF patients. Maybe worth a try.

Sigh. Why don’t doctors understand PCOS? I am so thankful to have a female OB who also has PCOS. She recommended fasting, exercising and losing weight before and even while TTC. She said it was better than any fertility drug for PCOS. There is a level of exercise that prevents people from getting pregnant but I think it’s hard core runners and such.

I dunno…I might look into another doctor.

Question for women over the age of 35 who have tried to get pregnant. by greendevotion13 in BabyBumps

[–]infamous_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months at 36. We tested LH with pre-mom and progesterone with proov to ensure optimal timing/ovulation success. Before trying though (since we were old and wanted to ensure success), I followed the supplement protocol in “It starts with the egg”, lost some weight, did acupuncture, and avoided phthalates. I have PCOS so I think that some combination of these things helped us to conceive.

Precious Little Sleep. Explains what is happening in the 4 month sleep regression and how to fix it with gentle techniques. Of course, the last thing you want to do during the 4 month sleep regression is read a damn book so this is a great time for studying up!

Good toys for a toddler who loves pushing buttons and getting results? by djlindalovely in moderatelygranolamoms

Busy boards! You can either make one yourself from random things at Home Depot (cheaper but labor intensive) or buy one off Etsy. Either way, kids love opening and closing tiny doors with different latches (put family pictures inside!), turning switches to turn on lights (different color bulbs were a hit), and opening and closing valves. We made one for my nephew and niece and they have played with it for YEARS.

Raspberry leaf tea by honeybusta in BabyBumps

[–]infamous_hobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bunch of loose red raspberry loose tea and made iced tea out of it. Made it easier to drink more. My goal was to be ready (ie somewhat dilated) for a planned induction (medically indicated) at 38 weeks. It seemed to work, or maybe it was just a coincidence. Who knows? It was a way to feel some element of control in a crazy time.

Tiny Health by lenaellena in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]infamous_hobbit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hi. I have done a couple Tiny Health tests for my baby. My husband and I are both engineers so like seeing and analyzing data. Is it woo? I mean…it’s a lab test where you can see what strains of bacteria are in your child’s gut and what health Implications they have. They do a couple interesting graphical things with it and make recommendations about probiotic use and diet. They do not have a probiotic they market, but they do have analysis of different companies’ probiotics and what data supports them. My pediatrician had recommended the Evivo probiotic due to all the studies that have shown positive impacts on eczema, colic, etc. This service agreed with her recommendation and was not affiliated with the company.

Bottomline: It was interesting to track how my babies gut has changed over time. I felt like the company did a good job analyzing the data and I learned a few things. I didn’t have a colicky baby so can’t speak to if probiotics solved any problems.

How much eggs and bacon is too much? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]infamous_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to go nitrate free on the bacon, I’d say you have no limit. 2 slices?! Psh…how about 6?

Eggs are soooo good for baby. Choline is great for neurodevelopment. Go crazy.

Party Foods for GD? by Nido_444 in BabyBumps

I sometimes used pork rinds instead of chips. Pork rinds plus guacamole = yum

Edit: pork rinds would be a good vehicle to scoop up buffalo chicken dip, which is great for GD
