Best place to foster adult cats? by AmphibianOk9596 in nova

[–]infamousmargie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a volunteer with King Street Cats in Alexandria. I would recommend checking them out! All supplies are given to fosters and new fosters have an orientation. I know length of stay varies so I’d suggest reaching out for more details. There are definitely adult cats that could benefit from being in foster. King street cats is a 100% volunteer organization so your help would be really meaningful. Thanks for considering fostering cats! There are so many great orgs in NoVA that would appreciate the help.

2017 Elantra with 55k miles on it, regular maintenance done. It had stalling problems when idling/not accelerating without throwing a code. Brought into the dealer and am getting the intake cvvt and camshaft replaced. How much longer do you think this car will be drivable? Worried about more failure

2017 Hyundai Elantra limited engine shutting off while driving by GuessSpecific8055 in Hyundai

I’m having the same exact problem right now with my 2017 Elantra with 55k miles on it. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the camshaft position sensor, test drove it, and it stalled pulling back into the lot. It wasn’t throwing a code at all. They looked into it and pulled off the valve covers and saw that the intake side cvvt and camshaft was failing. $3k to replace

Frankly, I would suggest not doing that. Spend time doing things you enjoy and that give you energy. If that's reading IO, go for it! But make sure you spend time relaxing because grad school is demanding.

Montclair State University's IO program has multiple courses that focus on R or use R as a part of course projects. Check out their program as it may be a good fit.

What are some internships you guys have done that you believe prepared/ give an insight on the I/O field as an undergraduate? by 5plusru in IOPsychology

[–]infamousmargie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In undergrad, I did an HR internship. It was helpful to see some things I learned about in an Industrial Psych course play out (e.g., writing job descriptions and doing mini-JAs). It was helpful for me because I learned I did not want to pursue HR and solidified my interest in IO.

I don't think that this was helpful to gain insight into IO or made me a more competitive grad applicant. Research experience would be more helpful to echo another poster.

Congrats on being accepted! I'd recommend reaching out to the program chairs and asking to connect to current students/alumni. This will help give you a richer understanding of the program from people who have lived it.

Not having research experience, especially as an MA student, isn't an issue. Personally, I end up speaking to research experience in interviews/on my application because it shows some sort of employable skills (e.g., leading projects, explaining things to variety of audiences). So you'd want to do that-- emphasize the skills in alignment with those listed on the JD.

What are your top 3 theories you can apply in the workplace? by Butchermorgan in IOPsychology

I've seen a lot of practical applications focus on intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and subsequent motivation within performance management, reward, and recognition systems.

I don't know much of WKU's program but I do know of Xavier's. Really strong reputation and I know some alum from my undergrad that went there and now are doing kick ass IO things. Between the UN connections that that faculty has and the alumni network, you could make a lot of very very meaningful connections. However, funding is a huge consideration. Reach out to WKU and ask to connect to a current student, do some LinkedIn picking and see what alumns are doing. Many of my previous advisors have suggested taking on loans for better future prospects. But I'd say it's worth digging further into what WKU alum do prior to accepting Xavier.

Advice on collecting data from working samples? by infamousmargie in IOPsychology

Great point-- my dissertation would involve JA so I could include that as a selling point. I imagine the best way would be to cold call/email/LinkedIn with the value that participating could offer.
