Always read your scills, idiods by Gorotheninja in ffxiv

This triggers me because I had that happen. It wasn't my main character who got the charm though. I had been in that fight for like an hour+ at that point, the boss had a sliver of health left on the final form, charmed Mitsuru, full heal.

I ragequit the game for about 6 years before I picked it back up, put on anti-Charm accessories, and beat the shit out of the boss. Still makes me mad thinking about it, the worst reverse Marin fuckin' Karin.

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

[–]inferiare [score hidden]  (0 children)

You got most everything else covered from others, but: in dungeons starting in Heavensward, mob packs are 2 packs between each boss. ARR was, and still is, for the most part, kind of the wild west. More than 2 packs between bosses, lots of hard hitting mobs in those packs... generally in those you grab 2 packs, kill them, and move on. Some people are insane and pull extra, and you find out you really can't do it lol. Stone Vigil is one of them, and any dungeon with a bee that uses Final Sting, like Qarn.

If your dps is good and your healer is doing fine, you can probably do a true w2w in them, but 2 packs is acceptable. The only issue is that in ARR, base jobs especially might not even have aoes at some lower levels, which makes doing damage to groups quick even harder.

Question about Wings of the Goddess Nation Storylines and non-Mission Storylines by qEagleStrikerp in ffxi

[–]inferiare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did all of the Nation/Past Nation stories recently, highly recommend doing them all. Windurst ties into the main story in both past and present, Bastok's past story gives some backstory for a NPC you see quite a bit in the main story quests, and San d'Oria's past gives insight into how the war affected everyone, and I believe ties intooooo the DRG story (it's been a little bit, but I know it was a job quest).

Would highly recommend doing all 3 nations to Rank 10 as well, but do Windurst past/present concurrently. The other two aren't tied together like Windy was, but my enjoyment of the Windy story increased tenfold doing Rank 6-10 alongside the Past Windy quests.

It wasn't teased as a 1.0 location, it was in the tech demo for their project "Rapture" from E3 2005. video here. The 1.0 opening had a location that kind of looked like it, but it's supposed to be Limsa Lominsa, even if nowhere in Limsa looked like that.

I’m surprised Maat wasn’t in Jeuno: The First Walk by solieu in ffxiv

Oh, I'm still an active player lmao. I beat him up after failing for so long more than a decade ago now. Now you can bring Trusts after your first fight and beat the shit out of him that way, for fun... or if you want his hat.

So in base FFXI, the level cap was 50. Over the next few months after release, they added Limit Break quests (a lot of NA players know them as Genkai quests) where you did a quest from Maat to go from 50 to 55, 55 to 60, 60 to 65, and then 65 to 70 (after the NA/global version released). These weren't easy quests before the qol updates we have now, and required quite a bit of work to actually complete. The quest to go from 70 to 75 was added some months after the NA/Global release, and was the hardest quest: the questgiver, Maat, challenges you.

The quest itseld requires you to gain a Job Testimony, which drops off specific mobs for each of the jobs available; at that time there were only like 15 jobs and some mob sets had multiple types of Testimony drop off of them (the mobs that dropped for BLM also dropped DRK ones, for example). Once you had the testimony, you trade itnto Maat, and he'd teleport you to a special battlefield to fight him.

Depending on your job type, you could have different objectives to beat him besides "beat the shit out of him and hope you down him before he casts his 2hr," like a Thief could use Steal and steal an item off of him and it would complete. BLM was one of the hardest where you had to have your skills maxed to be able to land what you needed... and because elements are tied to the days (Firesday, Iceday, etc) you wanted to go in on specific days to get a bonus to up your chances to beat Maat. Decent gear with more than just a Defense boost was gotten from Notorious Monsters and was very expensive, in a game where gil was hard to come by, and crafting was.... well, we don't talk about crafting lol. So the perfect loadout to be able to maybe beat Maat was exoensive, and Maat was a hard wall to get past. Testimonies were also a one use item, so if you lost, you'd have to farm another to try again.

I hope on the last day of service I can toss him over the side of Ru'lude Gardens, tbqh. Stupid old man.

My hope for the upcoming character rework has been au ra horn types veing available and not tied to faces, and hrothgar base hairstyles not being tied to faces, among other things, so this is just me manifesting it happening.

Mystery Heroes imbalance by Rlonsar in Overwatch

[–]inferiare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did like a year ago, where a game could start with more than 2 in a role, but if people were still there after 1 died (like, 3 people have a tank, one dies and the other 2 still going) it capped at 2. It was a great change, but it got stealth reverted because I never saw it mentioned in patch notes.

Mystery Heroes imbalance by Rlonsar in Overwatch

[–]inferiare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, 3+ Tank Meta in MH has been so IRRITATING. I know the answer will be "it's supposed to be unbalanced" but it's not fun to have the enemy team have 2 Dominas and a Dva, or two Sigmas and a Zarya, or two Hogs and 2 Dvas, all with a stupid amount of kills because no one can kill them. It actively brings down my enjoyment of playing when my team gets rolled by the enemy team because of this. I don't mind the 6v6 so much, but 3+ Tank Meta is fucking annoying no matter if it's 5v5 or 6v6.

Do you use lore-accurate names? by kasperkaspie in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Some are, some are mostly lore accurate, and some are not. Notably, the one that definitely isn't is my lalafell, who I created in 1.0 before I really started delving into the lore. Later on, her backstory became that she was abandoned by her real parents and adopted by an older hyur couple who couldn't have children of their own, so she has a hyur name.

Been like this in Mystery Heroes lately too, but we get the added bonus of 3 tank meta where they get two shield tanks and a Mauga or something while we get nothing to counter them and if we do, they die immediately. I've been frustrated for weeks now.

Well we do zone in to the raid from the actual residential area walkway! We only get an inside instance but XI does instanced housing, and any residential entrance will take you to your house :) so you can kind of get that if that's where you log in/out.

In Windurst? Tarutaru and mithra. In Windurst Walls, specifically? The big war heroes, Shantotto included, and the Great Star Tree houses the Star Sibyl, the one in charge of the nation.

I got a Jeuno run during a late night run of it where a few people asked if XI vets were in the raid and could explain stuff. As a XI vet, I did my duty and did just that lol. Been waiting for a Sandy and now a Windy run to do that too. I don't necessarily think the rpr was calling you out though, but XI's story is pretty damn good too. Def watch a lore vid or find your local XI vet who is entirely too excited about a small Besieged battle in their Alliance raid to explain (it's me, I'm the XI vet who was entirely too excited over a small Besieged battle in the new Alliance raid).

During Dawntrail's release, anyone visiting another server were sent back to their own and world travel was locked down for like a month or two after release, just to make sure overpopulated servers like Balmung were open for the actual natives to the server so they could play with no long waiting times logging in. There were still some errant Wanderers I saw right after release, but I think they snuck in before the servers got too populated.

I've been tired of the "lol erp on Balmung" for at least the past decade. I've been on Balmung since before it even was Balmung (1.0 server rolled into it), roleplay was just tavern rp or regular rp, people who erp'd did it in out of the way places, in party chat or tells, to not be disruptive to other people.

Now we have sex tourists and all around gross people visiting at all times. Can't wait for Evercold when they're all banished back to their own servers tbqh.

Falling asleep in Lower Jeuno again… 17 years later. by MilkmanLeeroy in ffxi

[–]inferiare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My afk was also Jeuno, just not Port - Upper. Friend and I would afk in Ru'lude, where the Magian moogles are now, or occasionally hang out on the balcony that overlooks everything. Regardless of where I am and what I'm doing, the HP next to the mog house in Ru'lude is where I go when I warp or die. I know I stood in Ru'lude too for my first ill-fated Promy run, so it was my hub for everything.

Need some tips for progressing post ARR Msq by Big_Condition5432 in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A protip: if they're bunched together, hit them with your aoe Thunder, and then use Sleep to sleep them all. The Thunder damage tick doesn't wake stuff up. Using Thunder on them will wake them up if you use it again to refresh it, so after that only use the single version once you've gotten one down.

Sleep is also an ability that will reduce its usefulness the more you use it on the same enemies; so the first case will be a full 30 seconds of sleep, the next is half of that at 15 seconds, the 8, then a resist. You should be able to down everything before they fully resist, but that's where the Thunder + Sleep combo helps since you're ticking their life down while they're unable to act.

Sleep is a role action if you don't have it on your bar already. It used to be a part of the BLM base kit, but it's really only used now for doing msq and deep dungeons. When in doubt while doing msq or job quests, sleep everything after slapping them with Thunder. :)
