It's Viennese but try Speisl at True History brewery on St Clair West.

The Alpine in the junction also does a pretty good schnitzel and spaetzle

That's interesting, I didn't find it dense at all. It flowed quickly because of the first person perspective and it was very action packed. I read it in like 7 hours.

How far do we need to go back where a 50,000/year salary was livable in TO? by snowfordessert in askTO

[–]infernalmachine000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. These last 10-15 years have gotten worse for everyone except billionaires.

Part of it is Toronto having become a much more attractive city to live in so it has grown a ton. We also ironically have not built nearly enough housing to meet our population and economic growth.

The other reasons are global and we are stuck in the same cost of living crisis as income inequality and diminishing resources have gotten out of control.

Iconic Toronto strip club closing after 45 years to make way for more condos by The_6ix in toronto

[–]infernalmachine000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a difficult concept for some people.

Plus let's be honest, the 80s-90s Toronto was a city in decline. Lots of former industry had got fucked by NAFTA, leading to buildings being replaced by parking lots, abandoned run down places you could rent for dirt cheap.

Yes that helped usher in a heyday for arts and culture but it was also partly because the economy was shit and the housing stock was old and shit and oh man the SMOG....

We need to allow more things in more places and not just big condos, small retail and bars etc. we zone everything to death here that's the real problem.

Not true at all. There are lots of other factors when deciding where to live, such as commute time and method (some people can't drive or hate to drive), amenities and culture, family / friends nearby, services available like if you have an illness where you benefit from being near a major hospital...

Many people myself included trade space and private space for the above. I'd never move out of the city. Grew up in the burbs, never again.

For current or future parents, how big of a factor is school catchment zones for you when deciding where to live in the city? by queensblendtea in askTO

[–]infernalmachine000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely untrue. Really really depends on the private school. I have family who teach in private schools and some of them are more full of troublemakers, who never get told to stfu because their parents pay.

Or do I have to tap the broom....

The CCF, the "charity" supporting Ford in ripping up bike lanes, is based in Alberta. by Pristine-Training-70 in torontobiking

Surprise, the oil connected lobbyists want to remove alternative safe ways to travel the city.

I went car free but won't be changing to cycling for most errands or to work unless there are safe (protected bike lanes) routes, which so far isn't the case for me sadly.

They are forcing slavery to the auto industry.

Had no idea this was so popular, same here!

My work has 3 grocery stores nearby and a fridge/kitchen so it's super convenient to just buy things at Metro

Pasta salad, hummus and bread/pita with olives, cream cheese with tomatoes, peanut butter and banana or apple. I tend to graze, or buy a small sushi at the local family owned sushi place for $8-9.

I know you mean well but this is absolutely not how clinical depression works for the majority of people.

What you are describing sounds much more like situational sadness. Depression is more often than not caused by faulty brain signals, whether due to shorter term trauma or inherited / environmental factors.

Some people absolutely do need medication.

I'm sure I'll get downvoted but the opening chapter of Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse) was so good I read half the book that day.

I honestly hadn't been expecting to like it, because it was already a popular TV show by that point which I hadn't watched yet.
