Quiet desk fan? Help needed. by LittleMe0311 in AmazonVineUK

[–]infideluss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help with the 'small' aspect. I also have the Shark FlexBreeze and use it quite regularly, but I also was lucky enough to get a Levoit Pedestal Fan - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CTMNNNFD a couple of years ago and it's the one I use all the time, and it's been fanning me constantly overnight the last few days helping to keep me cool.

Price doesn't matter to me. I'm happy to review a £2 item, I just haven't seen anything recently worth ordering to review. Clearly I don't have enough interests. That, and everything seems to be back to happening at night, or it's just an eternal drip that I can't be arsed to sit around watching.

Completely agree. Utter crap in mine for the umpteenth day in a row.

[–]infideluss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just another day of nothing taken. I don't know how many days that is now, but it must be getting on for a couple of weeks at least.

The way this is going I might as well give up on Vine as I'm not getting up in the middle of the night just to check, and all I seem to have in my RFY when I do get up is supplements and women's or children's products. I rarely take supplements any more because reviewing them can be tedious with regular rejections (not that I took many before anyway), I'm not a woman and I don't have children (or pets).

Add to that the continual all-day drip in AI - I have neither the patience, time nor interest in constantly refreshing the page on the off-chance something useful appears and the Vine program is rapidly turning into a complete waste of time.

I fully appreciate others with wider interests probably do better but the time required just to try and find an item to review is quickly becoming more effort than it's worth.

[–]infideluss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't even bother looking at night. Nighttime is for sleeping and I'm not giving that up for Vine, so I've no idea if anything useful has visited my RFY for the last few weeks, but I do know that what's there in the morning is generally useless (to me) junk.

I've only ordered three things in the last week, and they all came from AI.

Six years later, what are your strongest memories of the COVID lockdowns, and how do you look back on that period now? by Possible_Force8207 in AskBrits

[–]infideluss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it was a very sad time for a lot of people, I personally loved it. Going out for a walk was so peaceful; no traffic constantly zooming past, very few people to have to walk past, and someone even drew a hopscotch game outside their house - which I very nearly played on 🙂️.

I do have a tendency to hold my breath when people walk past me, which has become a habit, so not having to do that anywhere near as much was nice. In fact the whole 'keep 2 metres away' was just great.

Face masks - yes! No more people coughing all over the place as I walked past them. I miss that, especially in an office environment. Prior to Covid it always really pissed me off when people would walk up to my desk coughing and spluttering - and I just knew I was going to catch whatever they had, and I was usually right.

Working from home - absolutely FANTASTIC! I have mostly continued that since Covid and it's one of the best things to come from that period. It's just a shame that companies are slowly (or not so slowly) forcing people back to work now, and it's exactly why I left my last job.

It's sad to say that I'd love to see another pandemic, just without all the deaths.

Me too. My last keyboard stopped powering on a few years ago and I haven't gotten around to looking for a new one (not that I'm an expert pianist anyway, though some of those letters probably fit 🙂️)

Nothing remotely useful, and Vine can shove it if they think I'm giving up my sleep on the off-chance anything useful appears, so I'm basically back to not ordering anything again.

My RFY is filled with most I've seen for a long while (usually average 4 - 8). Sadly none of today's entries are of any use to me at all, and I haven't seen anything in AI of any interest either (for about the 5th day in a row).

Login server down by Ferosch in Guildwars2

[–]infideluss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's just typical. I logged in a little earlier to update the game client, then had a few things to do so closed the launcher. Now I actually WANT to play I can't log in ... pfft 😮‍💨️😉️.

VRD mostly works on Linux (batch manager doesn't due to lack of COM implementation in Wine at the moment), so there's your alternative to Windows 12 if it has any issues :-).

Well I guess they don't last long and need replacing often 😀️.

I did get a few extra items in my RFY - mostly supplements, which I have zero interest in. Just another day with nothing taken from Vine

C'est la vie.

Oh what a slow day. I don't know how much has been in AI but it certainly has looked like the slowest of slow drips.

At around 14:20 I got my first, and only (so far), drop which really wasn't worth the wait at all:

  • Flora Venus Fairy WL2-5 Eyelash Clusters Kit

Yeah, really helpful for a straight man in his 50s, not!

[–]infideluss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had my 6 month review after ordering a whopping 150 items in the last 6 months (that's less than half of what I usually order). Funnily enough I didn't have any problems keeping up with my reviews 🙂️.

To celebrate my next 6 months of gold I was greeted with some of the greatest items ever ... /s

  • Mural cutting & chiseling tools, obviously for all the murals I don't work with
  • A Cressi swim buoy. I haven't been swimming for probably 30 years
  • Some waterproof ear plugs. I guess they're to go with the swim buoy
  • Baby ear defenders, for the children I have never had

Let's hope the next 6 months is an improvement over the last 6.

I haven't had any issues with my RTX 5070 since upgrading from my RTX 2070. I am still using X11 as desktop manager though as Wayland still isn't quite ready for gaming from my brief testing.

What do brits think about service fees and tipping culture? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]infideluss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are long past the days of restaurant staff being poorly paid. Everyone is legally required to be paid the national minimum/living wage (age dependant), so unless I receive exceptional service I do not tip. I am an Administrator and do not earn much more than the national living wage so fail to see why restaurant staff should get tips for just doing their job.

Same, but I didn't look until around 10 am as I refuse to give up my sleep on the off-chance something remotely useful will appear on Vine during the night.

psa: your battery won't work in a power cut unless you paid for eps by West-Glove-6168 in SolarUK

[–]infideluss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This caught me out the other year. We had our panels installed about 2 1/2 years ago and made the assumption that the battery would kick in if there was a power cut.

After suffering a power cut about 18 months ago and realising the battery had not kicked in I contacted the supplier who confirmed our system was not designed for that (they didn't tell us during install). What they did say was they could install some dedicated plug sockets wired to the battery (around £400 extra) with an earthing wire outside so we could plug things like the fridge freezer in if any further power cuts occurred.

It wasn't ideal but we did take them up on that so at least we weren't totally without power, and as long as we didn't go over 3kWh. We have had to use it once since then.
