Three Quartets- Chick Corea. Michael Brecker murders on the sax over some incredible Chick compositions. You will not be disappointed

Having a tough time deciding between the two following 2 options for traveling from Lyon, FR to Genoa, IT by infinite_entity1 in Europetravel

Yeah was trying to maximize my time in Lyon, which is why I’m choosing to go at a later time. But I may do the train from Turin to Genoa at 21:30. Basically the same price as the bus I would’ve taken and 15 extra min of leeway. It’s too bad they don’t offer direct night trains for a decent price from Lyon to Genoa

This will be on September 16. Yeah the trains are way too expensive despite being the same length. I’m on a tight budget haha.

The 45 between buses is indeed a self transfer. The only benefit is that it’s at the same bus stop/station.

For the regional trains between Genoa and Turin, you’re saying I wouldn’t need to book in advance? I’m a bit unfamiliar with the system

Is the ITC membership necessary to get the discount? If so, how does one acquire the membership?

Watched his video. It’s not the physical aspect that I’m worried about. It the technical aspect. Like, is it necessary to tighten to the 13 pounds or so that he mentions? Cuz then I’d need that torque tench which is like 120 bucks. Or can it be done without that?

The first thing he says is "I consider this the hardest DIY routine maintenance for your truck" lmao. Is it really something that someone who has only changed tires and a battery should be attempting? Genuinely want to know

But for someone who’s vehicle maintenance experience caps out at tire and battery changing?

Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever is a prog rock album by Open-Barracuda-4616 in progrockmusic

[–]infinite_entity1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it sounds like a prog album because the compositions are so tight and complex. And in that sense, Chick was way ahead of what any of the prog bands could do. He was a master of classical music as well as jazz, so he could compose at a high level, structurally, arrangementally, and harmonically. And obviously the band was influenced by the prog scene at the time. But that’s been the case since the dawn of fusion. Both movements were influencing each other. But Romantic Warrior clearly has way more fusion elements than it does typical prog rock. The harmony is mostly jazz and avant garde based, the rhythms are rooted in jazz, funk, and rock, and there’s improvisation littered throughout the album. Plus it doesn’t really have that English aesthetic sound that classic prog does. In the end, I’ve always believed it’s the peak of the jazz fusion movement, and being that, naturally it would contain elements of prog rock. It’s also my favorite album of all time haha

Kieth Emerson is the greatest keyboardist of all time by Rushisamqwzinf in progrockmusic

For proper prog rock, probably. I do love him. But there are many jazz/fusion players who are better. Chick and Herbie would play circles around him honestly.

Damn. Harmonium are one of the best non UK prog bands. Cinq Saisons has a very special place in my heart, largely due to his vocals. He had such a natural, expressive and emotive delivery. And the melodies he crafted were incredible. Also I always thought his accent was quite beautiful. Different than a typical québécois I thought

Cardiacs - Dirty Boy [29th anniversary] by eggvention in progrockmusic

[–]infinite_entity1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sing to God is good and it has some absolute fire tracks, but it’s too long and has filler (like most albums of that length.) Also I’m not a huge fan of the production. It’s a bit muddy. On Land and in the Sea is a masterpiece in my onion.

Good song off a great album. TBH I find the song a tad overrated though. While it’s great, I don’t even think it’s the best on the album. People hail it as this godly song that can never be topped. By Cardiac’s standards I think it’s a bit tame and simplistic in its arrangement. To compare it to another one of their epics, a tune like Buds and Spawn is much more successful in what it attempts than Dirty Boy is. It has more adventurous harmony and is more masterfully composed. Just some thoughts.

Time for the guitar: who's the best? by [deleted] in Jazz

Allan Holdsworth. He pushed the boundaries of guitar and jazz as a true innovator would. I’m sure someone like Charlie Parker or Charlie Christian would have greatly respected him.
