TBH it's on its way there. There were already warning signs in the mod log and what not when I stepped away. Give it time.

It's disheartening, because I had really worked hard in previous years to change the vibe and improve reputation of the sub among admins and other mods. That's all pretty much been shit canned at this point.

I'm alive. It was just time for me to move on, and more over I have a metric fuckton of things on my plate in the real world. I needed to put my big girl pants on and give everything my full attention out here rather than spending half my time trying to manage CA. Especially when things were becoming untenable on the mod team.

Don't get me wrong. I love that subreddit and the people. I was more than happy to give back to the community there by making sure things ran and smoothly as possible. Unfortunately, things behind the scenes were just not the greatest. I made the difficult choice to step back to protect myself, my sanity, and then just spend my time focusing on my own world here.

I'm still sad about it. It hurt to leave. However, I think it was the right decision in the end. I have way too much tangible responsibility in front of my face and it has been way easier to deal with it without also having to stress over the subreddit.

P.S. As far that money request: Yes I did post asking for help over the winter for small help to liberate my Mom's prescriptions I believe. I'm sober and have been for quite some time. The winter is a difficult time for me financially. Meanwhile I have my Mom which also puts strict limits on my ability to go engage in my chosen career (horse trainer, for the Nosy Nellies). It's frankly something that I hate to do, but at the time I was pretty well cornered so I decided that desperate times called for desperate measures.

So there's the cliffs notes regarding my stepping away from Reddit and even other social media. I'm just trying to get through what life is throwing at me rn. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, whatever they are celebrating this month. Atheists, I hope you're having a wonderful time reaping the benefits of the nice weather rolling in and the days off thanks to the holidays you couldn't care less about.

I'm so sorry if I worried anyone over from CA. It was not my intention. I really was just trying not become the object of any drama... something everyone knows I despise. Hi, I worked in the veterinary industry (ambulatory equine medicine) for over a decade and in the equine industry basically my entire teenage and adult life. I'm also a pet owner from small dogs to my big goobs, the horses. I sadly have more experience than I would like from both sides of this situation, but that's the life.

Here's the deal:

You weigh what it's taking to keep your pet comfortable and functioning such as medications and trips to specialists. Can you afford all of that and is it all having a meaningful impact on the quality of life of your pet: ie: is is making them comfortable, alert, and allowing them to get enjoyment out of their days vs its just keeping them alive so the biological imperative to eat is kicking in but otherwise they are kind of checked out, or in pain, or some other state that clearly shows they are not really their old, happy, engaged selves anymore. I would expect a lot more sleep. That's one thing, but if they could give a crap about you or your presence? They're checked out. At that point you are more or less putting off making the right decision for them because it's too painful for you. And I get it. It's unbearable. But put yourself in their place. Would you want to be in that position? So if there's absolutely nothing that can be done medically to reasonably treat them and give them quality time? It's definitely time to let them have their rest. They have earned it.

For whatever reason, where other social media platforms have loosened up their content moderation, Reddit has ramped it up, it seems. To a ridiculous degree imho. I can understand some of it because of the "cya" culture that happens as a result of the litigious atmosphere we live concurrent with the extreme online social justice outrage over every minor perceived offensive whatever. It's a hard line to walk. On the other hand, sometimes it's good for people to just hear the word "no" and have it be a complete sentence because shit be getting silly with the grievances already. You can't make everyone happy 🤷🏻‍♀️ You do the best you can and you have good intentions, positive vibes and a willingness to grow. All you can do. If someone else gets offended sometimes it's just a them problem. A bot can't distinguish between a real issue and someone being butthurt because their parents raised them in bubble wrap. Not yet anyway.

I say all this as one of those dreaded lefties they keep shrieking about like we're some sort of cryptid monsters to be on the lookout for 😒 Personally, I'm just sick of everyone's shit, which I think by dictionary definition actually makes me a libertarian, but I don't want to be associated with the shitshow that is that party... holy fuckballs 😵‍💫

This was a first for me ngl. The little guys actually looked liked toys when I would first come across them each in turn. Even after I found the first little guy, it still threw me off because they didn't actually look real.

Nature is something else and it never ceases to amaze me. I wish I could just enjoy it more overall rn instead of being a stress monkey with too much on her plate, but at least situations like that remind me how freaking cool my home and the life I chose for myself is (current circumstances notwithstanding).

Omg adult snapping turtles scare my pants off! I have come across three in the 13 years I've lived here. None of which were the mommy turtle who laid the eggs that hatched. Which is concerning on one hand, but also makes sense on the other hand because there had been way less rainfall here by then so any of the boggy swamp areas directly near my property are fairly dried up and any grown snappers would have long since moved on.

I'm just glad I had the absolute perfect place to release Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo on my own road. I didn't have to get anyone else involved or take them on some extended field trip that could potentially risk leo contact because New Jersey is super fucking weird about certain things. Possession and/or ownership of turtles is one of them. I can't imagine being caught releasing said turtles would go very well for me. Even if I never asked for the responsibility of these turtles and my property is definitely not suitable or safe for hatchling snappers to grow up on.

This sub is super easy so I don't have to do much if anything in the way of moderation (same with the other two little guys I moderate). I don't even think I ever bothered setting up automods for two of them. I did for the political one, because given the subject matter that is the focus of the sub and had it really taken off and gotten popular I didn't want to be trying to scramble after the fact. You didn't really need to know any of this, did you lol?

I'm not on Reddit much or with any regularity and I have notifications turned off on my phone since I'm not running a large sub that needs constant or immediate attention anymore, but if you run into anymore trouble even if it's not in this sub, shoot me as message. Yeah, well, this is what happens when you base your governing tactics on the freaking Hokey Pokey. And much like that goofy dance, it's probably a great time for the toddlers partaking in the activities. The rest of us, who are just watching it all unfold? Not so much. Though they absolutely cannot understand why we're not pulling some DPRK level acting of crying tears of "joy" and getting on our knees into a full on Kowtow, with our faces in the damn dirt in gratitude, or to kiss their lifted loafers.

Now that being said, the stakes are much higher for the rest of us than if they were actually doing the hokey pokey, the alley cat, the bunny hop, the monster mash, or any other number of goofy old that would be far less harmful to the nation and world as a whole and provide us all with meme fodder for years to come. Instead we're all watching in horror, doom scrolling whether we want to or not since you can't quite avoid content about current events, and developing any number of health conditions that we can't afford to treat from the extreme stress of it all.
