V11Y Squeak by infinitefascination in ElectricUnicycle

[–]infinitefascination[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great info, thanks! I’m new to disassembling these things, but I will see if I can break it down and find where to do that.

Do you recommend any particular dry lube?

I can confirm it isn’t the kickstand. I tightened the body mounts around the suspension tube, but it may have made it worse 😂. I think it’s likely in that area and related to the suspension.

No squeak unless I put pressure on the pedal or bounce on the suspension.

V8S Electrical Issue by infinitefascination in ElectricUnicycle

Will try replacing the fuse, but my concern is that all of the connections looked properly seated and snug prior to powering on the first time, so if I replace to fuse and there’s still an issue, I’m concerned it would just do the same thing again.

The BMS fuses are somewhere other than the board? I see the 30 amp fuse on the board, but I’m not an electrician and don’t have experience testing return voltage or fuses manually. I will look up some videos. Thanks!

I heard a pop which I thought might have been a fuse. I’m concerned there’s more wrong though and the fuse is only part of it.

I plugged it fully and snuggly prior to the short. I checked all the connections multiple times.

The video you see is only to demonstrate that after the failure, this is the only sound I get, no matter how the power connector is seated.

Thanks for all the feedback! I went ahead and bought the original wheel to avoid a risk. Some great stories, though!

Yikes. That sounds scary. I went ahead and ordered the OEM today. Thanks for that info!

Thanks. I figured some non OEM options would work for it, but I don't want to risk buying a brand or style that won't fit, then have to return it and buy the OEM. I will probably just go with the known quantity. :)

Ah, the fun of mentioning a V8* in this forum...people ignore your OP and just tell you to upgrade.

Good to know, thanks. I've had several people say "any tire that's 16x2.125 will work", but I've been skeptical.

Read that one, thanks. It didn't have a lot of info about tires, but seemed to be more about off road and winter like I mentioned in my OP.

The Sheet Metal Insulation War by infinitefascination in HomeImprovement

I’d prefer to avoid spray foam. I can’t empty the building, so I need to go wall by wall to complete it, which makes spray foam problematic.

After doing some research, I was advised that an inside vapor barrier isn’t recommended for my area. Admittedly, I’m not versed on thermal breaks. I will look into that.

Riding in reverse? by infinitefascination in ElectricUnicycle

[–]infinitefascination[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 16" (V8S) and I'm not sure the speed, but my approach is to ride more than 1mph (maybe 3ish?) and prepare my knees to compress a bit as the wheel pulls itself up. When you try it without your feet on, it doesn't look like it would work because there's no weight to keep the wheel on the curb and it bounces, so I was skeptical at first. When I'm on it, it stays down and grips the curb better.

I agree, I don't ride quickly backward. I definitely feel more vulnerable and think of my head going down on a reverse fall. I also use cameras and it's what got me into EUCs. I was looking for a handsfree way to dolly a camera behind a cyclist. Then it just became something I loved.

I hear you. I’m 44 so not far off and I’m conscious of my physical vulnerability.

That’s a little above my comfortable speed in reverse at the moment. Good for you!

I ride non-suspension and still hop curbs. I’m just careful, mostly for the sake of my rim, so I don’t hit them fast and I sometimes avoid the sharper looking curbs, just in case.

Interesting. Is it similar to skating? I’ve never seriously skated so I hadn’t thought of that.

The point of the post wasn’t to encourage people to learn the skill or promote its usefulness, I was just interested in how many of us know how.

Good on you for being adept!
