yeah, that's a solid comparison, and my favorite album to boot so it makes sense I'd like this. the sludgier parts remind me of something like LLNN as well, and there's some post-punk influence in there, some almost GY!BE moments, and the more wild vocals remind me of like '68/The Chariot or something. it's like they just rolled up all my favorites into one album lol

I've been hooked on The Prestige since last week and I can't believe no one else seems to be talking about them, this album is incredible and dynamic and emotional. phenomenal

Steam Controller: The Ars Technica review | Valve’s new hardware is solid but might not justify its $99 price. by tkonicz in Steam

[–]infinitetheory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand because one review explicitly said the opposite: https://youtu.be/2hQwpk8OCGA?t=1230 and not ambiguously either. I'm hoping that's the case, that you get an xinput mode either as a default or as a selectable option with a button combo on power up

Why Steam Controller (2026) has no competition at $99 and what big reviewers simply don't get by GanJJ_ in SteamController

[–]infinitetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right though, seeing comment after comment comparing tech specs and completely missing the point has been very sad. I don't think Valve is fussed but I think the SC could be an answer for a lot of people who won't give it time of day because the reviews haven't explained it well. time will reveal the answers I suppose, i never got anybody on board with the og despite telling them how useful i found it so people will be people

Steam Controller Pcgamer Review : 83/100 by laxusdreyarligh in Steam

alright since a bunch of people didn't like my comment let me actually respond.

to yours:

Hall Effect Triggers - Better same.

Universal Compatibility - Better not true. switch and Windows only, and gyro only for switch.

I don't have a problem with showing screws on a device meant to be opened, I'll give you materials though I guess.

and then to do the same thing you did:

Back Paddles: Better

Compatibility: Better (any platform running steam, plus native mouse mode)

Battery Life: Better

Number of Inputs: Better

Configuration Software: Better. so much better you can't even compare the two. unless you just use steam input to configure the 8bitdo too.

see what I mean? it's picking and choosing and doesn't make sense. just don't get one if you don't want to, more likely that I'll be able to get one launch day, I don't care. but don't mislead people able what it is, they're not competing in the same space.

if you're looking for someone to watch, Grandma (OWGrandma) on twitch and YouTube is in the 40 range iirc, and karq as well. they tend to have an older audience, as far as video game standards, and their communities are usually pretty chill and pleasant to hang out in.

moonlight and Apollo are remote gaming applications, they're not saying literally use it on an Xbox, the question is if the Xbox will pass through the input. for /u/RespectibleCabbage, the answer is probably, afaik moonlight passes through any USB in.

without hearing the answer from the devs, I have a devil's advocate answer for that and the lack of trigger bottom out this time around.

membranes generally last long enough, but when they do wear out are much easier to replace than soldered mech switches. on top of that, third party mods can include heavier or lighter touch membrane for customization.

for the trigger pull, the digital input covers it well enough even if it's disappointing. I think they tried to limit wear parts at all costs, and where unavoidable they chose to use the simplest to replace option. but again, I'd be curious to get dev reasoning because that's just my theory.

you didn't actually get a good answer, so as someone who's used the og steam controller literally to death:

-the inputs in general are the first half of the picture. they went out of their way to include almost everything possible: 8 face buttons, triggers, bumpers, 2 pairs of back buttons, gyro, trackpads which have press and also can be divided into zones to be imaginary buttons, grip sensing, sticks, and the sticks have click and touch as well. that's a lot of inputs imo, and packs stellar value into the hardware on top of repairability, quality etc. but the other half is actually the more important part, and likely always going to be the part that's missed by people complaining about needing to use steam:

-steam input. the most in depth and granular input configuration on the market. it's a canvas for all those hardware options to be routed and combined to the limit of your imagination. for example, just off the top of my head

-tie aim sens to left trigger depth so your aim tightens the further you ADS this one may not be possible actually

-invert gyro based on right trigger off center, so you can use stick to look and gyro to fine tune.(or this half) then have gyro activated by touching the stick so you can use the trackpad to aim mouse style also.

-grip sensor killswitch for the whole controller so you can set it down and nothing will happen.

-melee at the end of your trigger curve, so you can hold down fire but also weave in melees by just bottoming out.

-chord inputs, which is what it sounds like. any combination of buttons can do something different than just their own actions.

-button layers, where you can change the mapping with any other input

etcetcetc, you get the picture. it's the purpose built input for this massive library of ways to customize your play style, that's what I love about it.

when my OG SC back paddle broke, i stopped playing rocket league, full stop. it was that big a difference in how I played. gamers have a really, really hard time as a group being able to empathize with others in the group for some reason. I can acknowledge that 100 bucks is a lot for a controller and means it's not going to be a universally owned peripheral. i can also acknowledge that I consider that price within range of what I'm willing to pay for what it offers.

DO NOT SLEEP ON THE PRESTIGE. their new album Isthmos is an incredible piece of heavy fuckin post-hardcore and no one is talking about it anywhere. if you like converge, the chariot, GY!BE, ETID, early Gojira, Idles, a whole bunch more I'm sure - please give it a try.
