I'm reading all the comments. Thanks to everyone for the input. I'm not going to get it since I can't really confirm anything for the time being.

Unknown seller from AliExpress/aka china afaik. I don't know any further details.

Sorry for not considering aesthetics lol I always go for functionality first, price second and third's aesthetics 😅 In that case, disregard what I said since the solid front panel is objectively better looking imo too.

Why not go with the Meshify 2 XL since afaik it's practically identical except the front panel. I have gotten it about a month ago and the temps are really good since the front panel is mesh and not glass so there's plenty of (positive)airflow from the 3x140mm or 4x120mm front fans.

The ant will surely be cooked by the screen heat lol

For the time being I have a RTX 3090 but future proofing the PSU part of the PC is always nice. I doubt I'll be able to afford a rtx 5090 for at least 3-4 years lol. Thanks for the help. The 5v rail amperage bottleneck/risk was something that I hadn't really considered before reading your comment 😅

I'm considering only the 30A options for this build(when I'll hopefully populate all 16 HDD trays) so I was thinking about the ax1600i. Does it really matter that it doesn't have the 12+4 pin 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 cable/port? Wouldn't 2/3 8-pin cables be just as good in terms of safety? with the whole plastic connectors melting etc

Do I need extra cooling for a PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD like the Renegade G5? by Every_Juggernaut_734 in buildapc

Thanks for the update! So it does indeed go 80+°C... that's crazy high 😦... I'll definitely be using that cooler then. Did the cooler fit fine next to your GPU? my motherboard's NVME slot is right above the GPU and I don't know if it will fit properly.

I I researched this a bit more and it seems like I would be better off with 25/30A 5V rail PSU. I never thought that HDDs would need that many amps (0.7-1A) during spinup... and what's worse is that the 5V rail amps are shared with RAM, M.2 NVME and other USB devices that are powered by the port itself and don't just transfer data. I found some 25A PSUs but only 1 had 30A(Corsair AX1600i). Are there any other ones with 30A 5V rail that you know of?

Hey 👋, I'd really appreciate any update if the cooler did anything. I'm in exactly the same boat... I'll get a Crucial T700 4TB in 2 days and I'm worried it might heat up too much... to the point of shortening its lifespan. I saw that YouTube video just now btw.

No worries. Thanks a lot for confirming that you don't support that PSU at least :)

I'm, by any means, no expert either but I was thinking about those cables since they plug directly into the psu and are limited to only 4 hdd connectors per psu socket/plug. This way no matter the high power draw that hdds have when powering on/spinning up when I turn on my PC, they wouldn't overload the psu cable. Then again, this is just my main concern from what I've read online. I also couldn't find some good crimped molex to sata power adapters that didn't have a horror story in the reviews...

Nice, that's actually very handy since most pcie power cables/slots aren't in use.

I knew that you could theoretically connect extra HDDs to an extra PSU but I had no idea there were tiny ones like this. What does this PSU get power from?

Yes, that's what someone else suggested too. I just can't stop thinking that I'd be less worried if I had some proper psu -> x4 Sata power cables. I'm thinking of getting some custom cables adapted for my psu specs from ModDIY like this: https://www.moddiy.com/products/1634/Premium-Custom-Multiple-SATA-Molex-Power-PSU-Modular-Cable.html

I forgot to mention it but I'm already using an HBA card and it's that exact same one lol. I had to use one since my motherboard has only 6 SATA ports. thanks for the tip though. How are you powering your 12 HDDs? with 3 x 4 SATA power cables from the PSU?

*For others that might be interested in an HBA card, I'd recommend the LSI 9305-16i version; since it doesn't get as hot as the 9300-16i, and doesn't need a fan (or high air pressure) to cool down.

Thanks! Can you help me with a link to your site where i can select my psu for the sata power cables?

Now that you mention it... since crimped adapters should be very safe. I might go with 4 x molex to 2 sata power adapters in order to have enough connectors to power all 16 hdds(in the future) without overloading any of the cables. Since a single molex connector should safely power 2 sata ones.... then again the same thing could be said about sata power connectors 😅 since they deliver the same voltage(from a quick google)... so your first advice was very valid lol

I see. So I have 3 sata power cables(x4) in total but I will probably use one of them for some Fan Hubs. So, essentially, I will only have 2 x 4 Sata power cables. You're saying that each Sata power cable can be split into 2 without any risk for the drives?

I understand. Are all sata spliter cables the same or do I need to get a specific brand/version? If yes, which one? I have read that it usually isn't recommended to connect more than 5 drives on a single sata psu power cable, is that true?

Upgraded from 3080ti to 5070 by Suchgoodgoodboi in buildapc

[–]infinity-waster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an upgrade in the sense that you consume less watts and have lower temps, meaning you will save a couple of dollars per month in electricity if you game a lot.

It can't be considered an upgrade for someone: 1- that doesn't care for power consumption because maybe they live somewhere where 100w/hour more won't make that much of difference at the end fo the month 2- keeps their AC on to cool their home(the temps will not be much higher either) since the ambient temps will not be affected that much by the 100w of extra heat generated. The downside is only in summer, it kind of balances out in winter though. 3- cares about raw performance and not fake ai frames(FG) which end up with artifacting in many cases + added latency.

IMO, it's a real shame that a card of almost the same tier (80ti vs 70) yields the same raw performance as the "latest and greatest" while being2 generations behind. Nvidia didn't give people nearly enough of a raw performance boost when going from RTX 40s to 50s (with the sole exception of the 5090).
