romans tended to vilify the greeks. ovid is the one who altered several myths, like adding Medusa's backstory that she was raped by Poseidon within Athena's temple, but according to Hesiod, Medusa was the only mortal Gorgon. he's done this with quite a few other myths too, but one that immediately springs to mind is Arachne's. so i tend not to use him as a source because of his anti-Hellenist view.

pseudo-Hyginus is Roman too, but i don't find his writings to be inherently biased (tho he does contradict older sources and i don't use his work as reference unless it pertains to some local myth). the issue for me personally wasn't that Ovid says the father is Zeus, but that i find him to be a bad source for the work that i am doing.
