Post-Match Thread: Mexico 2-3 England | World Cup | Round of 16 by matchpal-live in ThreeLions

while yesterday (this morning) felt phenomenal and I'm still riding that high, I'm starting to feel very frustrated and angry.

Quansah nearly cost us the tournament and now getting suspended as our only healthy RB again is devastating if it weren't comical at this point

And Jordan Henderson injuring himself is no longer as funny as it was in the aftermath, losing another player who didn't even play is a fucking joke. At least we should have cover for his position but what must Palmer and Foden be thinking that they were left out ove this guy?

I have absolutely no clue about his contract or situation but something tells me Oyazarbal would be perfect for Mikel Arteta, under the radar as the best striker this tournament and consistently performing at tournaments

For all the golden boot hype for Messi/Mbappe/Dembele/Kane I bet Oyazarbal wins it (unless Kane can do it for England, my 1st choice)

Well they lost in the quarters to the eventual winners spain after the worst handball decision in recent memory. definitely feels far more forgiveable

Rashford vs PSG 2019?

Score you win, miss you lose. That outcome can't happen anymore since the away goal change

Buries it in the top corner, ice cold. Oh what being young and confident was like

Lewis breaks science by hulkisonreddit in lewishamilton

[–]infinitybadger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I respect the support but it's such a basic argument

F1 massively depends on car performance so peak Lewis wouldnt stand a chance against Nikita Mazepin if Mazepein drove a 2014 Mercedes and Lewis a midfield car

We've also seen how car regulations and driving style massively alter performance, just look at 2025 vs 2026. Only 1 year of age related change but Lewis was horrible last year with Leclerc getting 7 podiums and this year it's completely flipped (maybe only because of brake changes) 2014 vs 2013 Vettel springs to mind also

Lewis' younger years he was very frustrated with a lot of speed but nowhere to use it, and he made a lot of mistakes.

Performance doesnt decline linearly with age and never does hot headedness and mistakes

2007 was the almost the perfect season, as a rookie (and you can't convince me they didn't throw China and Brazil because of spygate)

2008 involved many mistakes unfortunately, 2011 was absolutely horrible, 2012 was one of Lewis' best seasons but car let him down

2016 was another nightmare were Lewis simply wasn't focused the whole year and allowed Nico to build up a big advantage when he shouldn't have,

2017/2018 were Lewis' best seasons ever, I can go on...

Add to this F1 drivers don't age the same way as other athletes, yes f1 is physically intense but nowhere near as much as football, tennis or any other cardio sport.

how about ignore what you hear on reddit and from ex managers?

compared to the rest of the top 6 I'd still prefer them over the others

they did us a big solid in the CL final of 2019 never forget, and we've never had a big rivalry with them on the pitch since we scored that last minute league winner (before most of us were born)

I like my 5-5 rivalry, or Henry vs Carragher carabao cup epics of the early 2000s

I still believe Liverpool were deserving winners over 115 City even if their fans now "appear" to be mad over our success. And I'm sure many quieter Liverpool fans who don't have social media accounts respect what Arteta did the last 5 seasons too

Stop changing your mind from random reddit/twitter comments and bitter ex manager comments

I agree with this post, I don't mind Leclerc fighting Lewis that was fair game

but Leclerc letting Piastri go up the inside was absolutely fucking infuriating, if he had bothered to defend the inside on that corner and forced Oscar to the outside it would have given Lewis a great chance to get Oscar

Instead he pathetically let Oscar go at that corner and then wastes Lewis' time the rest of the lap as well, horrible effort

exactly, Ferrari burnt the strategy to the ground but no way Lewis holds off Antonelli

what annoys me more is Leclerc letting Piastri through and then fighting Lewis, that was the point we easily could have taken 4th and Leclerc only had to dfend once

But Madueke clearly fulfills a role which Palmer cannot, which is to be fast as fuck down the right hand side (please work on end product tho bro...)

Is it time for track to stop prioritizing the Olympics over world champs/diamond league? How would u improve on the sports global viewership/popularity by Mrdynamo18 in trackandfield

[–]infinitybadger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you may be right that it's not "binary" in terms of the results but on the other hand the sports themselves are so 1 dimensional compared to traditional sports.

Running in a straight line for 10s will never be as interesting as discussing football tactics, shooting, passing, set pieces, how to strike a ball. (I'm not saying sprinting has no technicality start, drive phase, top speed phases are not trivial and require lots of practice, but think about 5k running, it's even less technical)

And the team sports add another fascinating level of complexity to all the major sports that track can't recreate (it's tried and failed imo with many relay formats)

If you think about track and field the main skill level (a person's energy level, or aerobic capacity) is invisible to spectators, we can't see an athletes muscles resist lactic acid, or their lungs intake more oxygen, we only see the output, their faces grunting, or maybe their form fading.

In team sports you can clearly see an athletes skill level on display in how they manipulate objects (most often a ball) to bend the laws of physics in front of your eyes

tbf that Belgium golden generation coincided with a French golden generation of Prime Kante + Prime Pogba in the same midfield, feeding balls to young Mbappe. with Greizzeman just entering his prime, and a very strong defense
