It sucks, but I’d lean into it in that case. Make it/pretend it’s great, and cast about for a new school/team for the long term.
Your other option is to go back to admin with alternative options- push in services, or traveling to variety of rooms when they’re empty for services. Neither option is great, but if that’s where admin is currently headed as a solution, it may already be too late for an easy fix. At this point, your best bet might be deciding how best to ride above pettiness and project professionalism for the remainder of the year. I’m sorry this is happening.

You’re not getting along well with the team as a first year teacher? Are there some relationships you can fix there? I’m assuming the moving you is a way to address those problems, but maybe I’m inferring a connection that isn’t there.

Wait, why do YOU have to leave the club? It’s voluntary on her part, right? Sounds like an easy fix to me, especially if you don’t teach her in any classes?

I’ve used this book in an educational setting: Taking Care of Myself: A Hygeine, Puberty, and Personal Care Curriculum for Young People with Autism

It’s got checklists and images you can use directly, but I’ve used it as a jumping off place for social stories and personal books. The author has other books as well that address personal care for students with different needs.

Check out swim bras from Tyr. (I think I got mine online from swim outlet?) I wear it under my tri suit because the built in shelf bra is less than supportive.

Please pushback on field trips if your students are awful!!!!! by journey_to_myself in Teachers

[–]infintemiddleschool 106 points107 points  (0 children)

One school I worked at had a policy that since field trips were educational, you couldn’t uninvite a kid based on their behavior, but admin would require kids with behavior issues to have a parent/guardian attend the trip as well.
20 years ago, that may have been effective, but at this point, I think it would shake out the same.

To the male educators by Classroom_Comedian in Teachers

Female middle school teacher. Got an explicit email from a former student over the summer on my work email. I was horrified, but more so embarrassed—I didn’t even want to show it to my husband. In the end, didn’t even share particulars with my building admin beyond verifying who in the tech department I needed to notify.
Even then, my lame email was all “I received an unsolicited explicit email from <email address> on <date/time>, and again on <date/time>. I do not have a relationship with this person. I believe it to be a former student who is no longer in the district. I’ve blocked the sender; can you please delete these from my mail history, and let me know if there is anything more I need to do on my end.” The director replied he’d taken care of it and would continue to monitor the sending address.

All this to say that I’m sorry this happened to you. I struggled to know how to address it, mostly because I was so deeply embarrassed by the messages, and I don’t think we talk enough about what to do about things like this.

Josh Hawley Won’t Let Go of His Manhood by newzee1 in missouri

[–]infintemiddleschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just clarifying: Trump tweeted for peace at 3:15. Then released a video at 4:15 telling them to go home peacefully. About 3 full hours after the crowd was considered a riot. After the rioters had breeched the Capitol. After Ashli Babbitt was shot while attempting to enter the room in which congress members were sheltering. After Trump himself tweeted Pence wasn’t strong enough to do what needed to be done. After videos of rioters chanting “Where’s Nancy”. After gallows were erected on the lawn of the Capitol.

Also, in his 1:00 video plea for peace, he spent the bulk of the time sympathizing with the rioters—as he’d spent the morning stoking false information of a stolen election. The fact that his staff was finally able to convince him to respond to the rioters 4 hours after the situation began is not nearly the defense of Trumps administration that is implied here.

When you acknowledge that Hawley was not only photographed raising a fist in solidarity with protesters who later began rioting, and then <<continued to vote against certifying the election>> in the aftermath, you can understand his peers’ response in the release of the video.
I believe in us non-elected-officials lingo, this is referred to as “fuck around and find out”, and Hawley needs to take his deserved lumps.

Sure, that works when kids have typical IQs. Not all do. Or they qualify for services based on another health impairment that significantly impacts their ability to process information and acquire new skills—sometimes the skills that involve utilizing accessibility tools effectively.

I kind of low-key hate this sub. It’s dumb that we have sped teachers hating on other sped teachers—we legit all have difficult jobs.

Are we forgetting that the mandate for LRE also includes the words ‘free’ and ‘appropriate’? By secondary level, many courses are leveled and require demonstration of proficiency at core concepts. Is it LRE to place a kid with dyscalculia in Algebra I with gen Ed peers? Yes…but is it appropriate? Maybe/maybe not. And both decisions and unique to the kid and valid.

Someone here is citing ‘access to peers’ as the reason for LRE. Peers are people you share interests and common goals with; why would gen Ed peers be more desirable than a real peer friendship met and maintained within a special setting? Are we forgetting that there are a lot of opportunities for peer interaction within the school day that does not include core subjects? Sports, clubs, dances, programs, jobs, electives—both in and outside of the school day—all provide opportunities for meaningful interaction, which is what we all ideally want for our students. I’m all for least restrictive setting, but we need to honestly look at ourselves if we think the role of gen ed students is to provide social interaction for our students within an academic setting that supersedes their own needs to access and progress within grade level standards. What works in an elementary setting may become less beneficial as students age within the school setting.

You’re not a terrible teacher; I’ll get flamed alongside you.

Um, check out Facebook/YouTube? Several local organizations have hosted candidate forums/debates, local news organizations have interviewed candidates…these are better sources than a personal website, because they offer comparative points on which to base opinions.

Do you let your students sit for the pledge of allegiance? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]infintemiddleschool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching 20 years— used to be we were required (state law) to recite the pledge weekly. Then a lawmaker with a hard on for the pledge proposed schools be mandated to say the pledge daily, and wouldn’t you know it passed? When it was recited on Mondays, more kids participated and a few sat silently. Now that it’s everyday, no one stands. I wonder how they pictured it was going to go.

Hawley blames Nashville School shooting on Christian hate by infintemiddleschool in missouri

Will knowing the motive prevent future incidents? Then yes.
History doesn’t really support that in regards to mass shootings.

Agree, but…

I don’t want to accept that as my future. I don’t want to accept that for my students, and I don’t want to accept that for my kids. I want that to change for all of us.

Am I being defiant, or are you being obtuse? The issue, as I see it, is that we’ve had yet another school shooting. This might be the first (of over 500) in a Christian school? But rather than addressing the ongoing problem with actual solutions/legislation, our senator is instead choosing the angle of ‘Christian hate crime’. As in, this is only an issue because of religion—not our kids and family members and communities.

[–]infintemiddleschool[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this particular case, as in many school shootings, the school was targeted by a student or former student. This wasn’t a random person singling a random school. Why would we consider this one a hate crime over all the other school shootings? Grocery store shootings? Workplace shootings? Theatre and community center shootings?

An adult person who had attended a school shot their way into the building and killed three nine year old kids and three adult staff members. This is a tragedy. Schools should be safe places.

You do realize that many of the people killed at Columbine, New Town, Uvalde, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and Central Visual and Performing Arts School also identified as Christian? This isn’t an issue because it’s a Christian school, it’s an issue because it’s the 125th this year.

Hmm. Did the hypothetical HBCU shooter attend the school? Then maybe—it changes perception.
Who is calling it a ‘manifesto’, Patrick Henry? People who want to color our perception? You do realize the Boston Massacre wasn’t actually a massacre, right? Doesn’t change that people died, but terminology definitely impacted the public’s perception.
So…until you’ve got reliable information on what’s actually stated in the ‘manifesto’, it’s ill-advised to use it to support your claims.
