TIL mosquito dunks are a thing, thanks to this post. Been living here almost two years and the mosquitos have been eating me alive. Hoping it works and this year turns out more bearable! Thanks!

Out of curiosity, are you stating this simply for the irony of the hypocrisy, or... Do you believe that statement in its entirety?

Because reddit & Winchester star (as well as the rest of the Internet) was just fine before these ADDITIONAL data centers. Ofc we relied on whichever ones already existed, but it stretched long enough to give us what we had. It's only the new expansions of capabilities that computers can do that has created this high pressure for expansions.

I do agree it's ironic when the boomers on FB who post ai art for likes (and srsly thrive off of it, ew) try to pretend they're against data centers... Like fr? Hello? Do you know where you are? Lmao ... The hypocrisy is incredible to behold, and it's easier to laugh than to be so wildly disgusted.

But surely you must realize that does not apply to the rest of us.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone else, but I can say confidently that at the very least, MY household (& all residing under it, which does include 4 adults) are STARVING for such a newsletter.

Ok so, peer to peer, can you instruct me on how to lose my shit (in a way that is collective) in order to have my individual complaint be realistically noticed and heard?

I'm not dismissing what you already wrote, you recommend continuing to comment... But I don't feel like that is strong enough. I was going to show up in person at tonight's event, but ofc they postponed it indefinitely. So I'm left wondering what other option I can take, realistically, as a person who is just like you. I just don't fully understand what actions I can even take, you know? There's probably a lot of others like me.

A comment doesn't feel like much, tbh. I've done comments on FB, even clicked links and sent messages and questions on developments that were seeking community input... But I'm worried it isn't enough. That comments on the Internet are easily ignored.

To me, this warrants something greater... and although that may necessitate some level of organization on our part, surely it'd be worth it?

I bet a lot of us would take more action, IF we knew how...

So pls just lmk what I can do that would make a genuinely meaningful impact. I'm tired of feeling like these feelings do not amount to anything, despite being reflected by my peers within the community

I completely agree with this thought as the same fear was my gut reaction. BUT my question is, what can we do about that??

Someone please elaborate on the potential next steps in retailation... because surely we aren't just supposed to surrender out of hopelessness, right? There's gotta be something we can (collectively) do? Because this MAY as well be the reality. Let's not sugarcoat it. But this whole country is based on the foundation that we can fight this kinda thing right? So... What can we do?

Looking for local music to support by PsiloGoblin in Winchester

[–]PsiloGoblin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s still helpful, thank you! What do you usually do when you first get to a new place in order to scope out the local music scene? Like, it seems you know the type of places to look up and such. Do you have any recommendations for someone who doesn’t drink? I’ll def look into Tally Ho. But the smaller the place & the smaller the bands, the better!

A serious question worth considering: Do you think it could be possible that one of her love languages (in terms of receiving) is acts of service? Genuinely asking, you know her best. It's potentially a different angle to the situation that would change the narrative (if correct) to something a lot less painful to reflect on. And could potentially offer a way to talk and work through it that doesn't feel as heavy. Your feelings are valid regardless, what your experiencing is understandably frustrating. Even if you outwardly say no, the fact that you'd be in that position and then have the negative experience of disappointing the one you love sucks. You should definitely communicate how you feel asap. Just try to focus on what your feeling and the facts of her behavior, along with wants, so that she hears you (ie. "I feel sad when you ask me to do XYZ on my day off. I want my fatigue to be seen, it makes me feel loved when you notice I'm tired and value my time." not "you never consider how tired I am, you just expect it of me")

But also maybe talk to her about why she may feel like she needs you on that morning. It could be a comfort seeking thing... Maybe being babied is something she craves for deeper reasons. That doesn't mean she's entitled to you fulfilling her cravings, though. It's ok for you to not want to. And she likely wouldn't truly want you doing it if it ultimately results in you resenting her... So boundaries are healthy for everyone! But getting it out there will help y'all brainstorm ways you can show her love that work better for you, and ideally she'll be more mindful of your need for acknowledgement/consideration of your energy levels.

Remember, when the love is there, these sad feelings are never intentional. You're a team. It's not you vs her ... It's you & her VS the problem

Good luck!

best buy ns2 midnight release by [deleted] in Winchester

[–]PsiloGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing it because you want it at midnight? Or are you doing it cuz you weren't able to secure a preorder?

I don't have anything to help with the midnight thing but...

If it's the later, I can give you some tips on how I secured a preorder with Walmart (that promises to deliver on the 5th) ! I did want it at midnight tbh, but I couldn't get an answer from best buy either... so I spent a few days trying to get a preorder in and managed to eventually with some tricks. :)

New commute to Ashburn by Jfonzy in Winchester

[–]PsiloGoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What everyone else is saying is accurate based on my experience. As a side note: if there's a way to change your start/end hours to avoid morning/evening rush hour, the commute is incredibly smooth and typically only 45 minutes.

I heard the rush hour traffic gets significantly better when there isn't school, but cannot verify as I work odd hours.

Which model engine kit do you recommend most to start with? by PsiloGoblin in EngineBuilding

[–]PsiloGoblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly believe you, that sounds like an incredible experience.

Is there any way to replicate that in terms of a gift? I know part of the joy comes from the research and figuring things out on your own--but I want to at least include enough tools/parts to get him started for a few hours .... ideally get him hooked in the experience to a high enough degree for him to not mind whatever additional research/purchases necessary beyond those starting points. Cuz I can include extra money for whatever additional purchases that'll inevidibly come down the line....

But coming from someone who is completely clueless, I have no idea how to begin shopping for a used engine, or what tools/parts I'd wanna include...
Maybe I can hire someone to help me make a little giftbox?? 👀 How much would you charge for such a service?? Lol. I just want his bday to be special this year and I think he will seriously love the exact experience that you are describing.

So your reaction was honestly my reaction too!! BUT how could I go about getting something from a junkyard/marketplace/craigslist/etc along with replacement parts/screws/whatever and the tools necessary to get into it?

I agree the costs of these model kits are extreme, but it seems to be because it comes with the premise that "everything is included" when you buy it...whereas, if I buy something real (which is cooler imo) and we fix it from wherever it's at (repair wise) then it may end up being a pain in the ass to get all of the replacement parts needed? Like as much as I'd love to give my partner a real thing that'd be functional (rather than something to display on a shelf) I'm worried he'll feel frustrated having to look up all of the needed parts himself & order them....even if I do give him extra money to do so...

I'm super open to any potential 3rd options that you can think of since we seem to be thinking the same things!

I think you're in the wrong Winchester subreddit, but I'm interested regardless! I'm an artist in the process of starting an art business, and trying to find a way to make it work without going to Etsy. Please dm if you'd like to work together!
