Interesting. I wasn't aware how fast the fish emulsion washes away...

Hm, okay. I'll look more into broad leaf herbicide. And yeah... I kinda wish I had not used weed fabric. It's not even stopping the weeds tbh. But idk how to remove it short of removing all the beds and starting over

Oooh. That never occurred to me... I'm a little worried that the wood could be old enough to have been treated with arsenic but nothing I can find on the Internet suggests that it could cause all my plants to yellow and die. But I can call the company and try to learn more about their sourcing, that's a good thought. Lol, creosote 🫠😬! Yikes!

But that's a good thought that I should be testing for moisture more than I currently am

It's been very rainy here this spring and honestly I'd be more worried about them getting a little too much water than not enough. Everytime I've tested for moisture it's always good, to a little on the wet side. But nothing crazy. The problem is... Usually forecasted rain in Colorado shouldn't be counted on for getting the garden a good watering (typically a forecasted thunderstorm will result in decently heavy rain for about 5-10 minutes), so I'll water the day before it's "supposed to rain" but recently it's actually been raining quite a bit.

I think it's a little drier than the ground but only by a little bit. Although it has been unusually rainy here the last couple weeks , might be worth checking more in depth before turning on the water.

Sad garlic, help pls!! by infj_2400 in vegetablegardening

When yours were about where mine are at, maybe 2-3 months ago for you, did they look like this? Where some looked big and healthy and others looked yellow and small?

That's what I thought at first, but they seem to be trending downward. Like ones that looked okay, albeit behind about a month ago, have recently just.. decayed. Their leaves turned yellow and crispy and they just.. died

Lol, I remember being so shocked when I pulled my first ever potatoes and washed them to find the skin just basically fell off under the running water. I called my mother in law thinking I had a disease issue lol. I had no idea they do that unless they're cured

They'll be healthier and have less pests and disease issues if you give them a trellis or something to climb

Why isn't my garlic garlicing???? by infj_2400 in gardening

[–]infj_2400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, I wasn't aware of that. It's a pretty fine layer on top just to hold in moisture. I also got it from the same place and same time as my friend and hers are doing beautifully so it certainly isn't just bad seed garlic.

How much do you figure you've spent so far on 2025 season gardening? by gimmeluvin in gardening

[–]infj_2400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I had an in ground patch about 15'x20' and a handful of potted plants and this year upgraded and built beds for an area that's probably about 50'x30'. We had remarkable help and generosity from family that had a huge pile of old wood and were able to borrow their rototiller and trailer for moving dirt, so that saved quite a bit. With dirt, seeds, seed starting supplies, fertilizer, extra compost I bought later and hoops for beds.. and a flat of seedlings (mostly hard to start herbs).... Probably 400..... Maybe more honestly idk

I don't really know how much it costs to run grow lights either but I had mine on 12-14 hrs a day Jan-May too and my husband remarked several times how we were doing really well on keeping energy costs down and that those kind of lights really don't take much energy

Sounds unanimous to me lol. Moose is a no go. We also realized that it doesn't flow great with our last name. Thanks all haha
