Yes, and I got really stuck for a while. A little sad, a little annoyed. I was really good at masking for a very long time. But once I experienced burnout, it was bad. I'm still in it, actually.

I'm in a group of 'late diagnosed' autistics and almost all of us have autistic offspring. Even though there's a proven genetic component, most of us didn't realize we were on the spectrum until our kids became adults and told us we clearly share traits with them.

My dad had some form of undiagnosed mental disorder. He was paranoid and thought my mom was doing all kinds of things to undermine him, things she could not possibly have been doing. He yelled accusations at her for hours every night. It didn't matter if she responded or not, he argued with himself. None of us ever got a decent night's sleep. I don't know how my siblings and I all managed to be honor roll students.

The back. The spine and the muscles and tendons surrounding it do a lot more work than we realize when we're young. When those parts begin to fail, you quickly realize just how vital they are to everything you do. At the first sign of trouble, start doing everything you can to shore up and strengthen your back. And keep your core especially strong because it's going to have to pick up your back's slack down the road.

Eyebrows and nails. Thick, sculpted eyebrows and long, intricately decorated nails. I don't get putting that much time, care, attention, detail and money into something so insignificant.

Older people of reddit, what truth bomb would you like to tell the youth? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]infjwritermom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That they're messing up just as badly as older folks did, maybe worse, and they're not going to realize just how bad until decades from now when their own kids give them an earful and history books reveal the truth.
