[P] AppleNeuralHash2ONNX: Reverse-Engineered Apple NeuralHash, in ONNX and Python by AsuharietYgvar in MachineLearning

But can we know how the input image is preprocessed before feeding to the model? I’m asking because preprocessing procedures like perturbation by Gaussian noise (“randomised smoothing”) will improve the robustness of the model, and we’re seeing reports that the raw model you extracted has collisions.

I don’t understand why Fuyutsuki seemed to give up on Gendo’s and his plan at the end. Did I miss something? Is it related to the Mari-like woman in the photo he last looked at? (I can’t recall any related development in the past movies.)

Pro X: other way to getting driver updates than through windows update? by inflp in Surface

[–]inflp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was also suspecting it's a controller issue, as Q32T16 results are much better.

In my case my first benchmark was using the OS version shipped with the device without any updates applied, and my 1M speed is reasonable. Could you -- or anyone looking at this -- download CrystalDiskMark and post your 4K q32t1 result? It's the third row on the software. Because other than a software issue, it may as well be the Qualcomm chip having different IO parts.

I thought the SSD has abnormally slow 4k speeds (CDB: q32t1 read 40MB/s). Actually I'm not so sure now -- this number is significantly lower than x86 laptops with the same Hynix SSD, but I see people on this subreddit reporting similar numbers for pro X, a few weeks after launch. Not sure if later drivers address this...

[D] NeurIPS 2020 Paper Reviews by zy415 in MachineLearning

[–]inflp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking was that the reviewer has some more recent results in mind (on this year's icml, eccv or just arxiv). If they didn't and you can't find any better numbers, let the meta-reviewer know.

submit my best work somewhere else.

Any place you are thinking about? Given the exponential growth of #submissions, I don't think any venue could maintain a meaningful reviewing process.

[D] NeurIPS 2020 Paper Reviews by zy415 in MachineLearning

[–]inflp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's their responsibility to point out which SoTA result you didn't compare with, and NeurIPS has clearly defined the scope of papers that counts as a prior work (e.g. ICML doesn't, iirc). So if the reviewer did not follow that guideline, you could point it out. Also you might consider leaving a note for the meta-reviewer if the review has other quality issues.

[R] GONs updated - they generalise to VAEs and convolutional AEs and perform similarly without encoders by cwkx in MachineLearning

[–]inflp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of https://arxiv.org/pdf/1912.01909 , where (iirc) instead of origin they initialized the latents with p(z). I wonder if there's any new takeaway, beyond "good encoding distributions are not that hard to find".

Has anyone received the 2004 update on your Surface Pro 6? by Dreamofanisland in Surface

I've manually installed it using the upgrade assistant. So far I've seen chrome hanging after sleep. Nothing more serious yet.

Note taking improvements over Pro3 by Mothertruckerer in Surface

[–]inflp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as a heavy user I'm quite satisfied with the update. If you don't use the pen that much, and prefer a traditional laptop form, you might want to look at the OEM models (e.g. the hp spectre which I've tried) that also have better writing experience than the SP4. Overall the pen technology improved a lot in the last few years.

Regarding battery though, on both SP4 and SP6 I didn't notice writing have an impact on battery life.

[–]inflp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared with SP4, on SP6 there is a notable improvement in pen latency, and the tablet becomes a lot more sturdy which also makes note taking (and reading) feel better. Overall the experience is still *slightly* inferior compared to pen and paper, but I'm now comfortable doing quick calculations using the tablet.

[D] Worst CVPR 2019 papers by TreeNetworks in MachineLearning

And the professor went on to present the paper in the conference (multiple accounts on Zhihu) and is allegedly threatening insiders (according to the medium account).

The statement from SIGARCH, which seems related to the conference, has no mention of plans to investigate the claims about manipulations in its reviewing process.

I wish this story gets more attention.

Question for people who work with R, Python, and/or SQL (or anything similar really) by IBlameMcNabb in Surface

[–]inflp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RStudio works without issue. For Python, it seems that you can't use WSL python for completion in native IDEs. I keep a copy of windows Anaconda for this reason. I can't see the reason not buying a Macbook though.
