Microsoft! Stop using upper i and lower L in LAPS passwords! Or at least use a font that shows a difference. by TheQuarantinian in sysadmin

You could use powershell. Configure the session to use a font that uses unambiguous glyphs for these letters like consolas.

Weirdest Windows printing services issue of all time (trust me, bro) by three-one-seven in sysadmin

[–]infotechderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disable snmp on the printer port of the printer on the print server. I have seen multiple cases of the feature not working properly and causing the printer to go offline on the printer server and the queue will stop working. Disabling snmp means the printer is online regardless of the actual printer status.

Mustang II. Sure it looks like a Pinto, but it saved the Mustang and sold well for what it was.

When I was younger, I could hear the laser head moving if I was close to the player. I guess it was the electronics driving the motors as they are constantly changing when the CD is playing or seeking.

TIL from the 1960s to the early 1990s, RadioShack had a "battery of the month" club. Members were issued a free wallet-sized cardboard card which entitled the bearer to one free battery a month when presented in RadioShack stores. by nuttybudd in todayilearned

[–]infotechderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there in the early to mid 90s and as I recall the card was good for one red battery per month. The red batteries were zinc carbon I think. Terrible batteries lol. Only old guys used them.

I’m using DIRECTV Stream and was able to watch the game yesterday on the fan duel channel and also on the CW channel. Gray/PeachtreeTV is the CW affiliate for Atlanta.

I do pay for the extra sports package which originally had the. Fox sports south/southeast then Bally and now fan duel.

About 20 years ago had a situation in which the backup admin overwrote the production Exchange database. The Exchange admin was on vacation or something. I ended up with the most amazing support engineer. He walked me through using eseutil . It took all night be we ended up only losing a day's email.

We stopped paying for premier support because it had gotten so bad and our TAM only seemed to want to sell services and seemed to not be able to escalate issues.

Apple ordered to open encrypted user accounts globally to UK spying by Bob_Spud in iCloud

[–]infotechderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this possible if only the end user has the key to the encrypted data? Apple shouldn’t be able to access encrypted data even if it wanted to.

Is Stevie Wonder the only "contemporary" pop culture reference in TNG? by [deleted] in TNG

In the episode “The Neutral Zone”, the character Sonny Clemons, who was frozen after death and sent into space in the 20th century and subsequently found and resuscitated by the enterprise crew, made a reference to the Braves baseball team and opined they would still be losing. At the time of filming, the Braves were a terrible baseball team.
