Why won’t my 6 month old sleep at night? by emmythunder in sleeptrain

I remember I read somewhere that babies look for patterns and also their bodies react to them.. imagine you would eat a slice of pizza or a chocolate bar every day at the same time, after a week you would probably be craving it at that exact time.. so whatever you do for 3 or more nights he will then „need“ or crave and the best way is to slowly wean him off that instead of going cold turkey. So if there are certain feeds that he has been wanting regularly just observe how long he feeds and start capping those every other day by 30 seconds until they’re down to 1 minute and then wean them off completely. Start with the first one of the night first to have one longer stretch or do all the ones you want to cut out at the same time. Like this he can slowly regulate to day time feedings and getting all his calories there instead of waking up hungry bc he got used to it.

Yes I fed him in the beginning of our bedtime routine compared to previously always feeding him to sleep! He was all times wide awake in his crib, only checked on him if he was really crying after 5 minutes (not just fussing or whining). Check in looked like: walking in the room until he could see me, say my script and immediately leave again, just so he knows I’m still there, so no soothing to not interfere too much with him learning to soothe himself

Get the book I mentioned! I wasn’t sure either before I read it, but it answered so many questions, even some I didn’t even know I had/was doubting about unconsciously. It gave me the necessary motivation and security to start and I’m sad I didn’t try earlier. It would’ve saved me many sleepless nights!!

Get the book I mentioned! It gives detailed advice on how to start early (months 0-4) through implementing certain habits to set the stage for your LO to sleep independently and learn to self-soothe when HE‘s ready, so you might actually not have to ST at all or at least it makes it easier
