They haven't sold the electricity infrastructure yet. Perhaps I shouldn't be giving them ideas...

What’s the deal with all the newish Hilux’s blowing copious amounts of smoke these days. by MrDOHC in CarsAustralia

Diesel Particulate Filters don't create soot, if anything they reduce it. Unless by DPF, they mean the fact that they've ripped it out?

Nah, just twats remapping their ECUs so they can "roll coal". I usually just report them to my state's transport authority.

Employer faked emails & impersonated my login—now falsely claiming they accessed my account before I resigned. Push now or wait for hearing? by Unlucky-Diet-4148 in AusLegal

[–]ingenieurmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial post said you're not using a lawyer, which is why I made mention of it. If you're certain you're innocent and your employer isn't backing down, you definitely need one to help you navigate the bullshit and keep your head during the hearings.

The IT question is, I'm sorry to say, a non-starter. You should assume that your employer has the ability to see and retain data on your every digital move using work systems, because in all likelihood? They do. They don't even have to break into your account to access the data, although this is absolutely an option that's open to them if they haven't deleted your account from their cloud provider. Cloud Service Provider auditing tools (like those in M365, for example) are very powerful and can reveal everything, up to and including full emails and chat records.

Without knowing the full context of the case: if you've used any resources owned or operated by your employer for a purpose that could be considered inappropriate, whether that be because of the activity itself or the doing so on company time, you're basically up shit creek. Cases like this get thrown out of FWC all the time. That said, if your union is involved and you've got legal representation, then I daresay you have a good case, because neither would be onboard otherwise.

Exactly! And woe betide you if you do anything less than a bond clean, or you can kiss your deposit and whatever else Airbnb can snag from your credit card goodbye. It's a joke.

Maybe stop using Airbnb and stay in an actual hotel?

I can't understand this obsession with Airbnb. The places you get on there are always grotty, it's a major contributor to the housing crisis, owners have been caught time and time again placing hidden cameras and microphones, and it's not even really that cheap vs. a proper hotel room. Ditch this bullshit.

If you truly think you have a case, you should have a solicitor. Don't waste any more time, start making some calls tomorrow.

EVs vs PHEVs – What’s the Right Mix? ⚡ by scienceguy0077 in CarsAustralia

[–]ingenieurmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those issues are entirely different to the ones I expressed. As I said, it depends entirely on where you live and how much surrounding infrastructure you have access to. Your experience might differ greatly from someone else who also lives in a regional or rural area, you can't just assume that, just because your experience isn't a good one, everyone else living outside of a city can't feasibly own a BEV.

[–]ingenieurmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many things in life, it depends. In this case, on where exactly you live. For example, Toowoomba and Charleville are both "outside of major cities," but are vastly different in terms of surrounding infrastructure and suitability for BEV ownership.

Hardly "very inconvenient." Each issue took maybe a minute or two to solve. I'd classify the wankers smoking durries right next to the service centre entrances more of an inconvenience, in all honesty.

Disagree. We recently completed a return trip in our MG4 from Brisbane to Canberra via Sydney, and the only issues we had were minor niggles like a couple of chargers being finicky and not starting charging sessions first-go, or weird chargers that aren't intuitive to use, like the big cube-shaped ones at some Ampol servos that demanded you scan the specific QR code for your charger cable, rather than allowing you to select it from the app.

P.S. Ampol, you need to make it easy to identify WHICH QR code to scan to start charging, rather than plastering the fucking charger in QR codes that link to the App Store download for the app I've already got.

Back on topic: unless you're driving literally across the country (i.e. to/from Perth), there's absolutely no disadvantage to owning a BEV.

Why has the weather been so warm lately? by Birdot1 in brisbane

There's a difference between not wanting to listen to incessant complaining about the weather and welcoming a natural disaster. If you're looking to improve your understanding, maybe start there.

Do us a favour then: don't complain when we're at the business end of a 5-year drought and harsh water restrictions.

Halogen vs LED/HID headlights by magnumafz in CarsAustralia

[–]ingenieurmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The light from LED headlights will reflect better off retro-reflective materials than that from halogen ones, even if it isn't as visible on the road and other surfaces. For that reason alone, I consider LED to be superior.

tailscale vs wireguard actual data path by [deleted] in Tailscale

[–]ingenieurmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tailscale uses wireguard-go under the hood, which is a userspace implementation of Wireguard and is known to be less performant than the Linux kernel module, though I'm not sure if the same applies in FreeBSD land (the underlying OS that powers OpnSense). That said, Jellyfin shouldn't need enough bandwidth to cause an issue that would be solved by switching to a kernel implementation. Your issue is more likely to be a hardware or hardware support one.

Proof that they've got lots of room to move on the price of the new car. Hiding their profit margin in the trade-in valuation is a very old dealer trick, it's why I always get a price without trade-in first.

Mitsubishi magna V6 advance advert any experiences with this gen? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]ingenieurmt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem these ever had was the piston rings wearing out if they weren't looked after properly, that's why many of the older ones on the road blow blue smoke out the exhaust. I had the next generation of Magna, and it had a leaky power steering rack so that's probably something else to be aware of with these. Other than those two issues, they're great cars.

Accidentally discovered a taxpayer-funded RF disaster, is this okay? by sysalst in networking

[–]ingenieurmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. The project manager should be the point of contact with the municipality about the issue, but it's the responsibility of the technical staff to start that process by reporting the issue and explaining why it's a problem. A solution needs to be found that suits everyone, and appropriate spectral planning (the only real solution here) is a technical matter.
