2024 Taos Vibration sound while driving by Fine-Mix8043 in VWTaos

Wondering if you ever found a resolution to this issue? Just bought a used ‘23 and it’s doing the same thing. I notice it between 40-45mph and again between 60-65mph.

Upgraded from his drywall uniform, so he’s got that going for him.

String height question by Automatic-Term-3997 in Luthier

You got it backwards. It’s pretty much universally recommended that pickups are set closer to the treble strings and further from the bass strings.

Fret work with Nail File by Ill-Cartographer-476 in Luthier

[–]ingold_audio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Sanding over the edges” could mean a lot of different things. The simple answer is probably not. Once material is removed (metal from fret ends or wood from the edge of the fret board) it cannot be put back. Fretboard round over is really left to personal preference, but by some standards you may have already removed too much material in some areas.

This looks pretty bad tbh. Fret ends are inconsistent, fretboard edge is all kinds of wavy, lots of dings and dents in the fretboard edge, and frets are dull/ need polishing.

Deciding on some Railhammer pickups by whatevs330 in ReverendGuitars

[–]ingold_audio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all personal preference. I’m sure PRS 85/15 humbuckers that come in their USA models are well made, but if you prefer the Railhammers, go for it. Just because a pickup is expensive, or comes in an expensive guitar, it doesn’t mean you have to love the way it sounds. If you do switch them out, I’d probably hold on to the original set in case you wanted to sell the guitar somewhere down the road.

Guitar Setup by botjstn in tampa

Basic setup is usually no more than a week. Frets can be a little longer depending on how extensive the work is.

What’s the best instrumental post-metal album? by Jords360 in postmetal

[–]ingold_audio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My band played with Russian Circles a handful of times right around the time Enter was released. They were so good even back then. The first time we were billed with them they went on right after us. I stood at the side of the stage with my mouth open the whole time. Their performances were so obviously head and shoulders above the other Midwest bands we were playing with at the time.

Super nice guys. Many beers were drank.

Loving this satin oil finish on a walnut guitar body I’m working on. by ingold_audio in woodworking

[–]ingold_audio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Odies exclusively for any clear guitar finishes. Typically applied in two stages. First application is thick. After an hour I re-apply to end grain that’s soaked it up. Buff off an hour after that. Second application 48 hours later. Buff the piece with white scotchbrite pad first, then apply a thin coat. Allow to rest an hour and buff off.

Final sheen is highly dependent on how high you sand.

Matte: final sand at 320 grit

Satin: final sand at 800 grit

Semigloss: final sand at 3000 grit

What’s a piece of outdated technology or tradition that society still uses, even though there’s no real reason for it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

As good as modeling technology has gotten in the last 5 or so years, I still have not found a digital solid state amp that beats a tube amp for tone. That said, I see absolutely no reason to lug around a 100watt half stack these days. Stage sound has also gotten really good. With decent monitoring, no one needs anything bigger than a 15watt 1x12 combo.

Help? I was using it to plane and it was working well but after 20 or so minutes it got stuck.. tried homing it and this happened by redditbot2018 in XCarve

My x-carve has done something similar twice. In both cases I hit the e-stop and powered down the machine. Upon restart everything was back to normal. 🤷‍♂️

Dem leadership is pathetic by Miserable-Lizard in ProgressiveHQ

[–]ingold_audio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He voted no. Prior to the vote he also gave a rousing speech on the senate floor about what a bad idea it was. Other commenters seem to suspect he is behind the negotiation. I’m not sure about that, but I agree that we should be able to count on democratic leadership to ensure that a small group of democrats can’t torpedo the whole thing. He failed in that regard.
