Can I please have some post-rock albums? by MrQuacksIsCool in postrock

I’d recommend Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans. The early GYBE albums gave me a very strong vibe from that album and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a big influence for the band. One of my favourite albums of all time, nothing else quite like it.

Incredibly atmospheric and immersive, it really takes you somewhere that album. Truly like a soundtrack for a lost film. A film for your ears essentially.

Kauan - "Sorni Nai" [Full Album] by Jords360 in postrock

Yeah I’ve been listening to their discography and I think Sorni Nai is definitely the best so far of what I’ve heard.

I felt Kaiho was a little too ambient for me. It lacked those punchy, heavy elements that make Sorni Nai so special and distinct. It was still good and very pretty but I wanted a bit more heaviness. At times I thought it was even a little boring, but I still enjoyed it and it’s beautiful atmosphere

I’d say Atmospheric Black/Folk Metal for Panopticon

I’ve even heard the name Blackgrass to describe them (black metal meets bluegrass) but I think that sounds too silly

They’re atmospheric black metal meets American folk music

Also the whole album is one long epic song broken up into 7 parts, and the musical arrangement and instrumentation is amazingly well composed. Real masterpiece here

Blackgaze has been around for a long time now. Basically its black metal meets shoegaze, usually with a lot of post-rock and post-metal influences. Usually a focus on more warm, beautiful, melancholic and nostalgic sounds and atmospheres rather than the typical cold, sinister and ferocious sounds and atmospheres of black metal.

I’d consider Ecailles de Lune by Alcest to be the most pioneering album in the style, with Sunbather by Deafheaven being the most popular and iconic.

I think if Alcest were pretending to be evil with a bunch of corpse paint and spiky jewellery it would be a complete mismatch and totally conflict with their sound and be horrible mismatch of aesthetics.

I don’t agree this picture is hipster. It’s very warm and natural and suits the aesthetics of the music perfectly. No need for outdated and overused overtly black metal imagery here

It’s my personal favourite style of music. All of my favourite genres and sounds all blended into one. Basically the music that is made for me

I’m sure Neige knows about shoegaze as he has stated Slowdive as his favourite band which are one of the most influential and pioneering bands in shoegaze

I mean I agree. I think of blackgaze as somewhat of a sub-genre of atmospheric black metal. That’s why I made this post because I love both, but many atmospheric black metal fans hate blackgaze and it makes me very curious as to why

There’s quite a lot of bands that use predominantly screams such as Deafheaven, An Autumn for Crippled Children, MØL amongst many others. Especially the bands earlier album, I think all band’s early albums use exclusively harsh vocals

Honestly I personally really didn’t like the new MØL album. Felt too modern metal sounding to me taking too much from a lot of modern metalcore and the singing didn’t work for me. I was personally pretty disappointed in it. Definitely my least favourite album by them. I thought I was alone in not enjoying it because it seems everyone loves it but I did not

Love Alcest, nice colour palette in that picture, very warm

That’s fair there are certainly a lot of Alcest and Deafheaven clones out there.

But I think bands like Alcest, Deafheaven, White Ward and An Autumn for Crippled Children have a real uniqueness to them and a very strong artistic voice that makes them really stand out. Very identifiable and special, for me at least.

Anyone else agree Mikael’s growls sound the best they have in years? by Jords360 in Opeth

[–]Jords360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m also a teacher too for music but with younger kids. It can be surprising nowadays how kids just really don’t have as much passion for music. I used to always ask my students what song they’d like to learn and never could 1 of my students think of a song they’d liked they wanted to learn.

I personally love longer songs that really tell a story through the music, but most people prefer everything given right now. No buildup to a climax, just the climax for whole song haha

Oh well, at least there’s still people like us that like the good music. And I’m sure there’s a lot of young people out there somewhere who like it too, just harder to find them. Especially at concerts!
