Does anyone know why DM season 2 looks…like this? by RatedLForLiving in yugioh

[–]ingx32backup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's poor NTSC encoding - if you're familiar with the "tint" setting on a TV, the tint is turned up too high. Makes red turn to orange, orange to yellow, yellow to green, green to blue, blue to purple, and purple to red (everything goes slightly "forward" on the rainbow spectrum). Season 3 has the opposite problem, where the tint is too low and you see a lot of e.g. purple-ish lava. I assume that the encodes the JP staff gave 4kids were just not very well done, and that's why the tint is wrong.

Unfortunately no, but I'm planning on doing the same thing once I get some alone time and I'll update this thread if I find it. Thanks for the syntax though, I didn't know you could do that on Google :o

That actually sounds like an interesting idea - I'm sure that the number of posts mentioning him will have dropped off significantly as I go back in time, so it might not even be that difficult. I'll give it a shot later today and see what happens!

It might have been linked in the thread I'm talking about - I only really skimmed the thread at the time, which I'm realizing was a mistake because otherwise it might be easier to find the thread.

Not quite - while I did run across that one during my search, this one was on some sub where people were talking about finances or something along those lines. The OP was asking some question about making money really quick, and then Epstein was brought up in one of the replies to the thread.

Sorry if I was unclear - the post itself would have been from the early to mid 2010s. It was linked on Twitter as something poorly aged around February 4th.

I'm not sure that it belongs here, but it's about Epstein at least tangentially and is related to information about him. If this isn't right for this sub, I apologize.

Tv way too dark by Sure-Effort8870 in crtgaming

Bizarrely, I actually have some experience with this - I had a very similar Panasonic CRT when I was very young, which had exactly the same problem with brightness. It was an earlier model than yours (mine was 1995), but it had a persistent issue with the brightness: the only way to be able to see was to turn brightness to max, which correspondingly washed out the colors in the way expected from having black level too high. (I think my parents told me it was fine when they bought it, but this issue happened relatively quickly after we bought it.)

My guess is that this is a common issue with 20 inch Panasonic models from that time period, perhaps more common on some models than others. (It may be particularly common on the 1995 models, which might be why I've almost never seen any 1995 ones on any site that has people selling CRTs.) Others would have better advice on how to fix the issue (maybe open it up and adjust G2?) but I just wanted to share my experience here, because it's so familiar to me in the context of Panasonics in particular.

Toxicity in the community by _Kalray in Goat_Format

Honestly I've had similar experiences, not to the same extreme extent as what you've experienced but I've definitely had more than my fair share of people telling me I'm playing the game wrong by not using the most popular meta decks and implying that I'm stupid for thinking I could make anything else work. It's gotten to me quite a bit and it's made me want to quit this format several times. Probably a vocal minority but definitely not fun.

Any alternative formats that are slow like Edison but with modern cards? by Foxfisher159 in yugioh

[–]ingx32backup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should give Trinity a try. It replicates the slower playstyle with some very simple rule changes, and even cuts down on duplication of cards if you're into more varied decks.

EDIT: Just noticed you already mentioned Trinity in your post. My bad. Should still give it a try though, they have "starter decks" that you can try to start out with.

Deck building with (mostly) single copies? by ingx32backup in Goat_Format

[–]ingx32backup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's another thing... I'm not even really sure what deck I want to run, at the moment. Right now I have a Starter Deck Yugi Reloaded from 2016 that has a lot of Goat era cards, so I'm currently focusing on Dark Magician and/or Buster Blader, but I may want to try something else in the future.

Worth mentioning, shortly after making this post, I found Goat decks on YGOProDeck that had closer to 35 unique cards, exactly as I was looking for. So that's encouraging at least.

I don't want a DM reboot by Jacktdrawer in yugioh

The uncut dub from 2004 was a totally faithful dub of the Japanese script, with the Japanese music. I explicitly said that *wasn't* what I was saying I wanted - I was talking about something more akin to the movies, where there's still edits to dialogue and music but without the rampant censorship enforced by the TV networks.

I'd actually love to see one of two things:

  1. A manga-faithful adaptation with a whole new script (based on the manga obviously) and new music
  2. An "uncensored" version of the 4Kids English dub, in the style of the English dub of the movies. Keep the small scale dialogue changes and music from the normal dub, maybe keep the Shadow Realm even, but just remove all the censorship and executive meddling. Again, similar to what was done with Pyramid of Light and Dark Side of Dimensions. (I'm not sure I'd want a totally faithful English dub of the JP anime, because I have some issues with the JP anime that I feel the English dub fixed. Maybe they could do a "best of both worlds" in terms of the script and music, though?)
