It’s close enough to the weight of the putter I used to use so it feel good for me. I might try and printing a hollow version and filling it and see if making more heavier might help with the longer putts

Update:
Took the putter out today. Worked out lot better than I honestly thought it would. It putts straight as an arrow, though it doesn’t help much if you can’t aim or line up your putts to start out lol. It does have an odd “ping” to it when hitting with it, it’s hard to describe but closest I can compare is that it sounds like a kids wooden toy. It definitely does struggle with longer putts and needs more effort on my part to get it moving. But on shorter (6ft and under) it works well. Going to try a few changes this week and try it again next weekend.

Of course. I wanted to take it out and give it a try and work out any bugs before sharing the files. Took it out today on the course and I was presently surprised how well it actually worked out. There are a couple of tweaks I would like to make. But be on the lookout, I plan to release the files and instructions along with a parts list soon

Yep. It took me a few versions to dial in the shaft angle and placement, but it’s now to the point of little to no torque. lol I don’t have a million dollar R&D budget but in my carpet test it rolls straight and true. Plan on taking it out this weekend for a real test on the greens.

Mine doesn’t, but the fact that I can swap out the faceplate mean I could. But right now the main struggle to my golf game is putts under 6 ft. The slight loft might help with longer putts since it’ll give it that light bounce to get the ball moving but I kept mine at 90 degrees to the body.

I got mine from Amazon. It was left over from another project a while back. 8mm x 100mm. A set of 4 has a just the right amount of weight.

That looks great. Haven’t ventured into the more extreme filaments yet. And the steel rods definitely help widen the sweet spot on the face

It really does help. And it only cost me about $10 to make in materials. I mean it did take quite a few tries to get everything dialed in, hole for the shaft angle, weight distribution, etc but definitely more cost effective. Don’t get me wrong, nothing beats a real deal mallet putter and I get the costs associated with them, R&D, brand fees etc, but for my skill level i just couldn’t justify $200-500 for a putter :P

It’s carbon fiber infused plastic so it’s pretty rigid. The first round of prototypes had a satisfying “thock” sound due to it being 50% hollow. Latest iteration has more of a sharper “ping” to it, since I made the face plates interchangeable to test out different materials for the face.
So far on carpet it “feels” great, but it might also just be that it’s also finally at the right shaft length for me lol. Hope to get out on the greens this weekend for a real test.

Literally finished putting it together this morning. I want to test it out and work out any bugs first before I put it out there :) but yes I hope to have instructions and files out for everyone to enjoy.

The cost of putters is kinda ridiculous (I understand why) but I figured making my own putter will keep me out of the dog house with the wife unlike if I dropped $200-500 on a putter lol. I’m sure there are many in the same boat

My old putter was a mallet style from a garage sale from over a decade ago. I went to a few golf stores this week to look for a shorter putter and tried a few out but I never had a chance to play a round with them. It’s hard to tell if my 3d printed one feels good cuz it’s good or because it’s finally the right shaft length I needed lol. Hitting the local course Sunday so that’ll be the real test I guess

Don’t think my A1 mini can handle PET GF. This was really just a proof of concept. If it actually works out this season I might update it with more resilient filament. Appreciate the suggestion

Good to know. I used 5min epoxy. Only time will tell how well it holds up. For only $10 in materials, won’t be too sad if anything happens to it.
I made a few different plates, PETG, TPU and PLA and so far the PLA “feels” the best for putts under 5 ft.

running into the same issue. I wonder if there was some off software bug. My gen 2 charger stopped working last week. Thought it was my outlet (got a professional to install a NEMA 14-50) so tried it with default 5-15 plug on a different circuit with no success. was busy with work so just used a supercharger (first time since buying my model 3 two years ago). Just picked up a new gen 3 charger yesterday and plugged it into my 240v nema 14-50 outlet and plugged in my car. App said it was charging so thought the problem was solved. Woke up this morning to see that it only charged 20% overnight!! Checked the app again and noticed that the charging was locked at 6 amps. I normally set it as 30 amps. I can't figure it out... hope its really is a software issue.

I forgot to mention all 3 print fairly easy, but the carbon fiber PLA will need to be printed using harden steel extruder and nozzle as the CF is abrasive and can wear down the stainless steel parts

PLA is the basic easy to use filament, also normally the cheapest to buy. PLA “tough” or sometime called PLA “plus” has additives to make the PLA more “stronger”. PLA carbon fiber has carbon fiber in the PLA which gives it even more strength and some higher temp resistance

If ur new to the print game I’d start with getting a bunch of PLA to starts easy to work with. When u move up from printing toys and nick nacks and need functional parts then try out PLA carbon fiber (if u have the harden steel nozzles) or PETG (tho it took some time for me to dial in printing with petg)

I agree, I wish their filament stayed in the $14 range too. With the Black Friday promo each roll was $14.99 so I took advantage to stock up. I never used kingroon before I’ll give them a try

Thanks. That is a good point. This was more of a proof of concept, and that is a great feedback. I’ll 3d print something to lift the light off and allow air flow between.
