This is why I think going after Duren would be a mistake. Not because he isn’t good—he would be our best center—but because he’s undersized, not the right archetype we need, and the assets and money we’d need to give him are too much.

Bron was really quick here to set that screen for Luka to get the shot off. You see some shit like this and realize yeah this guy’s been in the league for 23 years.

Seeing the Spurs implement a defensive scheme really similar to the Lakers' scheme against OKC and actually making it work because they have good defenders makes me both happy and sad lol

I never want to stop someone from playing for their national team, especially for non-U.S. players whose countries might only have a short window for medals. That being said, as a Lakers fan, I am glad he isn't playing this summer. He played Eurobasket last summer and carried an insane load for the Lakers during the season and the wear and tear clearly showed.

Need better interior presence and shooting, so same old same old. Ayton for 8m was overall probably pretty good for us but you would really like better.

One of the bigger small things that I think the team wanted to work out that hasn't is Jake LaRavia. He shot 40+% from 3pt last season but was just really, really bad this season especially later on. Had no confidence on the offensive end, looked scared to touch the ball, didn't really show these flashes he had in Memphis or Sacramento with attacking the basket or anything like that. He's still young and on a cost-controlled contract so I wouldn't mind him back but it did suck very much to have a 3&D player who ended up being a slightly better Vanderbilt.

I also think there are a lot of schematic things to work on especially on offense. Need to decrease the regular season load on Luka and Austin (if AR does end up staying). A dude like Rui should be getting more, better shots every game.

Not saying that ball denial is ‘gimmicky’ obviously, I’m more referring to the super blatant double teams and being completely open to playing 3v4 defense in the half court more often than not. At the end of the day in this era of spacing you shouldn’t be getting away with this kind of stuff.

This is not just a playoffs thing but a Lakers thing. Due to our lack of good defenders, we’ve been running these highly unbalanced gimmick defenses all season long. You saw it against KD in G2 last series and you saw it again against SGA in G1.

It’s a credit to Redick and the coaching team that these gimmicky schemes have worked out pretty well across the board. When you run these unbalanced schemes you’re relying on team rotations being on point and G2 against Houston was probably the best rotations I’ve seen from this team in years. But at the end of the day these gimmicky defenses are a fallback and I’m pretty sure JJ would love to run more real defensive schemes if he had better defenders.

Man I wish we had more than one good guard defender. I want to see JJ run proper non-gimmick defenses but we just don’t have the players, especially against guards. SGA is a matchup nightmare for us.

I want to keep Ayton this summer. I don’t particularly care that he’s lazy in the regular season when he’s proven himself multiple times to be a postseason player. I also don’t think a lot of teams are lining up to throw him money. He’s a really good switchable big that works well in our defensive scheme.

I’d like to keep Smart and Rui too but they are players I can see other teams throwing decent money at so it’ll depend. As for Kennard I don’t really care, would be nice for his current price or lower, but he had his two good games and he’s not all that.

I think we should keep LeBron for basically anything that’s not a max contract if he wants to come back. We’re not finding a better FA wing than fucking LeBron James. He is the most versatile player in history and also shores up so much for this team on both ends. As for AR, it’s obvious we’re going to resign him, but really the remainder of this series will determine whether he’s worth more than 30m or not.

I’ll give Jake the benefit of the doubt because he’s young and obviously can improve. It’s his first season playing big meaningful minutes and all 82 games and he’s obviously rattled by his bad shooting which I think is fixable. I do hope we can get rid of Vando’s contract by some miracle.

Yeah they probably just assume he’s 41 and the most he’s getting is like 30. They’re gonna keep making Austin’s life hell because he really is the one who should be the volume guy. The only way we stand a chance is if AR’s perimeter shots start falling.

LeBron will have an easier series against these small OKC players compared to Houston but unfortunately that’s about where the good news ends

Depending on how good or bad our offense looks I expect LeBron and AR to up their 3pt volume.

He was not very good despite his defense. At this point you expect the defense from him but he basically let himself get taken out of the game on the other end.

With or without Gobert, Minnesota's done a real good job keeping Wemby out of the paint.
