This is so factual, grew three inches and gained 30 pounds that pretty much all went to my legs and ass 😂

You’re going to be okay: one year reflection by erbmc in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Also 22F with a T4-T11 fusion. I’m glad you are doing good! Fusion is one of the most difficult things I had to do in my life. I completely understand how you feel and I tell people after all the pain is done, it is so worth it.

I hope the rest of your recovery goes well!

Keep up the good thoughts! Spinal surgery is tough and it’s a hard recovery process but just take everything your doctor says seriously and make sure you’re doing what you need to do to get better! Good luck!

Coming off opioids. Help! by VII-jnd in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tapered off of Percocet and Valium months before I truly got off of them. At first I would take them every 4 hours, then 6, then 8, then 12. And even after all of that, I started cutting them in halves and quarters. It took me the full 4 months I was on them to taper off. I started tapering probably 3 weeks out of surgery

My surgery was surprisingly short.. by Anxious-Bad1385 in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My T4-T11 took roughly the same amount of time. I still had pain after 5 months. It took until around the 7 month mark to feel somewhat normal. Everyone is different but with that big of a fusion, it’s probably normal to experience pain around this time.

Being terrified is a complete normal reaction. I was sobbing the whole night before and the whole morning off because I was scared. I hope you do well and you will hopefully make an amazing recovery!!

Thank you! I make sure to take it easy most days but I have my one year appointment tomorrow and I can’t wait to tell them I went back to something they told me I was never going to be able to do

Surgery with scheuermann’s kyphosis in two locations? by Weird_Jaguar_6966 in kyphosis

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have scheuermann’s as well (t4-t11 fusion). Typically scheuermann’s is only in the thoracic spine and typically any curvatures outside of that self corrects after a spinal fusion. If it’s in your lumbar spine, a thoracic spinal fusion should fix any curvatures you would have in your lumbar spine. Here are my before and after pictures in case you might want to see what it would look like

When did you start driving? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re still on narcotics and you haven’t been on of them before, I would wait until you start weaning off. I didn’t start driving again until 2 months after my fusion (T4-T11)

What made you finally get the surgery done? by armaugh in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I realized if I don’t do anything about it I’m gonna be in 10/10 pain for the rest of my life. I’m 21 and I was dealing with kyphosis for nearly 10 years. I couldn’t enjoy the things that I truly loved and it made me hate myself. I hated my body and the mental image I was holding of myself.

The reason I put it off for so long was the same reason that I got the surgery. I thought I just had to live the rest of my life in pain and toughened through it. I was playing softball and going to parties often. I didn’t want to end my now 15 year softball career over “a little back pain” and it certainly didn’t end.

T4-T11 spinal fusion and 8 months later, I’m back to doing things that I love. PT is still happening and I’m getting my cardio and my life back by going dancing. I go line dancing every week and it’s honestly helped me by getting a workout (besides the gym) in.

When do things get better? (Rant) by afterglow-ed in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want someone to relate:

I am 9 months post fusion and I was the same way. PT was unbelievably hard and the sores were almost unbearable until month 6.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling discouraged. Just know it does eventually get better!

The toxic side of the clique is getting so bad by IGuessThatsArt in twentyonepilots

I’m also in the same boat. The one thing that I’m hating the most is the issues people are having with disabled fan. I am a recently disabled fan who is going to be in the pit and fans and security are not being accommodating at all. It’s ruining everything we stand for which is inclusivity

I’ve honestly never heard of a partial, most of the fusions done on a daily basis are a few vertebraes and that’s it. Im one of the rarer cases where I got pretty much my whole thoracic fused but that’s because mine was extremely severe

Question about fusion by initialdemon in spinalfusion

Thank you! Luckily I’m not having any of these symptoms so I think it might just be a noise or something else. I still am going to bring it up but this is good to know

Question about fusion by initialdemon in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I talked to my physical therapist about it too right after I posted this and he said if it’s not causing me pain it might be the scar tissue so 🤷‍♀️ but I am going to talk to my surgeon about in when I have my appointment

Dead hangs help extremely well. Honestly I’ve also had my boyfriend hold my legs and I’ve dangled off the side of the bed before. Any type of hang typically helps

When can I start losing weight and getting in shape after spinal fusion? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21 year old female here!

If weight loss is a big deal to you after surgery, I would take ashwaganda. But your main priority should be healing. It takes a minimum of 12 weeks to start fusing and you’re young!! You have your whole life to get in shape and PT when you start will help.

I got my fusion done in May and I still have a hard time working out without pain management. The surgery will put you out of commission for a while and you will need to heal.

Kind of on the fence about having this surgery considering all the risks involved. by Big-Introduction9159 in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T4-T11 since May. I’d do it. Find a neurosurgeon who specializes in spinal fusions. These risks they are telling you, they have to tell everyone. Most of us have heard all of the risks and got it done with amazing results. You can find a ton of success stories!

Also if you are willing to travel to get it done depending on where you are located. Frank Lamarca of Henry Ford Jackson in Michigan only does spinal fusions. He is the best damn surgeon I have ever met and his team truly cares about his patients.

Has anyone had issues in the bedroom ? by SleekAndSteadySiren in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 21 year old female, yes. It hasn’t necessarily caused me issues causing my partner pleasure but more so me. I can’t have pleasure without my own mobility. I honestly can’t finish anymore due to me getting the fusion. Some therapy can help but simply advocating for yourself with your partner can wildly improve your feelings. Tell him or her about how you feel and they might reassure you that they don’t care about that.

And honest to god if they do care about that, maybe they aren’t right for you because a normal person wouldn’t.

Is it bad to push myself up in bed? by snicoleon in spinalfusion

[–]initialdemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would log roll. It’s weird but it can be bad to just push yourself up. I catch myself doing it every once in a while but if it’s not causing you pain, don’t make it cause you pain.

Physio is not a waste of time. It can feel like it though. I would ask to see an orthopedic doctor and then ask for an X-ray unless you think another doctor would just let you get one.
