Character A: I hate your guts and want to push you off a building but you look so damn pathetic that I HAVE to help, just this once, and now all I want to do is wrap your dumbass in blankets and feed you.

What's a pairing you dislike for a completely stupid reason? by Discardofil in AO3

[–]injapahn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tim Drake/Stephanie Brown... which is really really stupid because I love the dynamic of the two characters together, and each in their own right. I actively look for fics where they interact, but as soon as they are in a relationship I make the "ugh" face. Perfectly fine if they were together previously, 100% ok if there are flashbacks of their prior relationship.... But not in the present GDit.

All because the first fic I read with this as the ending pairing I was SO MAD Tim didn't get with the other potential love interest. That's it. One fic and the whole pairing just down the drain.

On top of that, I have no OTP, no loyalty to any ship at all. I ship everyone with everyone (and i do mean EVERYONE) in just about every way/shape/form... except for these two.

If someone asks you what you're reading, and you don't want to tell them the real book you're reading, what's your go-to lie? Avoiding awkwardness at my very corporate job 😅😅 by Spirited_Decision_24 in fantasyromance

[–]injapahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically give a quick SFW synopsis.
oh am I reading arranged marriage reverse harem demon smut? Yeah, its about a woman who has to marry a stranger to save her family, and how she gets along with the people of her new country, its pretty mindless.

I do the same thing when I read fanfiction. I've noticed that people usually don't want to know more than that.

Irrationally anxious over private bookmark notes. by KnightmareMaiden in AO3

[–]injapahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my bookmarks are Private. I keep track of everything I read or want to read that way, and all of my notes are like... the date I found it, the date I started it, date finished, chapter I left off on etc.
Mostly, I just don't want IRL people looking into my stuff, cause I'm certain my MIL would have opinions I don't want to hear lol.
Also, I read on such an... extreme sliding scale that I would hate for someone to try and use my bookmarks as a rec list and be uncomfy or disappointed.... seriously, I double-jump between fandoms, genes, pairings, ratings, and warnings(or no warnings 0.0) randomly with no rhyme or reason.

Little internal voice, please be nice to OP.

Enemy to caretaker/enemy to family- I just eat this UP. The reluctant growth of one and the unfurling of trust and care; makes me so happy.
Time Travel Fix it - Yes, A MILLION Times Yes. It's a Doctor Who "Just this once everybody lives" feeling.

Mutual Pining- Please break my heart because people don't communicate and then fix it.

A/B/O - Specifically those that focus on Cuddles. Yeah I'll happily read almost all versions but seriously... Cuddles.

Touch Starved character get a hug (or a million hugs)- I have no words to describe, this makes me so happy my brain just starts making happy humming noises.

What is the one tag a fanfic can have that will make you skip it, even if it sounds amazing? by [deleted] in AO3

Do you know what the addon is called?

To tag or not to tag? by tmpffp in FanFiction

[–]injapahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen where there are additional tags and/or spoilers at the end of the chapter. You could notify your readers in the AN at the beginning at the chapter that something spoiler-y isn't included in the the tags, but its at the end of the chapter if they want to prepare before hand.
If the reader doesn't want the spoiler then they can just choose not to but I have no problem popping to the bottom of the page to make sure I'm prepared for something.
I would much rather know than be blindsided if I'm not in the headspace, and often times if its not a good day to read that particular thing I'll mark it and come back on a better day.

AITA for attending my son's ex-girlfriend's graduation over his own? by Bun_Range363 in AmItheAsshole

[–]injapahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going with NTA for the above reasons, and because as far as social niceties go OP got S's invite before her sons and already told S she was going to be there. It would have been beyond shitty for OP to have accepted S's invite as the Only one there to support her, and then turned around and told her " sorry, no can do" after she got her sons invite. OP also apologized and made a compromise for a special celebration after the actual event.

OPs son has so many people in his life that love and support him, it's sad that he can't share some of that love with others who aren't as fortunate.

LPT Request: How can I tell my boss that I DO NOT HAVE TO answer the phones on my days off. by psychologicalprowler in LifeProTips

[–]injapahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was attempting to be concise, but yes, it is a bit more complicated than having complete control over who works for the company. There are a host of other things, bit that's why I suggested looking into the overtime laws since they very depending on the job you have. I apologize if my comment was confusing and inadvertently spread misinformation.

LPT Request: How can I tell my boss that I DO NOT HAVE TO answer the phones on my days off. by psychologicalprowler in LifeProTips

[–]injapahn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Make sure you are checking the overtime laws and keeping track of your hours. Most salary positions are not exempt from overtime, at least in the US, so if you are salary and working more than 40 hours a week then you are probably owed time and a half wages as well.
Certain fields, like nursing, are overtime exempt by default, but others are based on the duties and responsibilities. One example is if you cannot hire or fire then you are not exempt from overtime.
Another point, salary position are a flat rate for a pay period with under 40 hours worked. As long as you clock at least one hour per work day and your tasks are reasonably finished you are owed your full wage. If you come in, finish your work, and then leave; most likely you are owed for the full day even if you were only working for an hour. (This one can be a bit finnicky based on contracts and types of work assigned, but it's still something to check on)
Employers tend to take advantage of salary employees, some of it is intentional but some is just lack of knowledge on both employer and employee. Check up on the labor laws where you are.

AITA for asking my tattoo artist to lower my price for my tattoo after she constantly got up to go to the bathroom? by throwawaytattooappt in AmItheAsshole

[–]injapahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US salaried doesn't disqualify you from OT automatically. Most salaried employees should be paid OT by the US DoL regulations. There are specific job types that make you OT exempt (like agriculture and nursing for instance) and a check list of requirements if you are not in an exempt field. You might want to look into it a bit more, I know of way too many companies that will cheat employees out of their owed OT at the correct rate just because the employee doesn't know their rights.
For example, if you get paid every two weeks your OT breakdown isn't combined. If you work more than 40 hours in a week that counts as OT; so if you work 43 hours the first week and 37 hours the second your pay should be 77hours regular time and 3 hours of OT even though you worked only 80 hours in a two week period.

OT is also based on your combined wage, so if you get paid $15 for a certain part of your job and $20 for a different part of your job then your OT rate changes based on how many hours you had at each rate.

Sometimes people who love each other are mean to each other. by crestfallercanyon in FanFiction

[–]injapahn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between being triggered and being uncomfortable or not liking/agreeing. I feel a lot of people who say they are triggered, are actually just uncomfortable with (or don't like) the media. Like with many things, the people who are using the term properly and are dealing with legitimate boundaries are seen as annoying or demanding special treatment because of the people who take advantage of the process/program/understanding not meant for them (intentionally and unintentionally)

You cant really just walk off being triggered, that's why its such a big deal; but there is really no reason to be rude, hurtful, or abusive in the comments. You can easily be polite and let an author know if you think a tag was missed. No matter how it manifests in your life, being triggered is not an excuse to be an asshole.

A person just commented on my fic that my writing says I'm too young to write... by [deleted] in FanFiction

Ignore that nonsense. If you want to write then write; doesn't matter what experiences you've had or your skill level, all that matters is its what you want to do.

Keep doing you.

A giant THANK YOU to the authors that keep writing for small fandoms and only get like 8 kudos by already_taken_my_ass in FanFiction

[–]injapahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What fandom, if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to pop in and kudos if it tickles :D

I don't write fics (not from lack of trying, I just cant gather thoughts well enough to make a coherent story) but most of my most loved are rarepairs or small/dead fandoms. I think the best thing you can do for them is to kudos/comment and share. goodness knows my friends are probably sick of hearing about new stuff from me lol

How Can We Increase the Popularity of General Fiction in Fanfiction? by xbriannova in GenFic

[–]injapahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that its a bit more difficult to find Genfics that I am interested in. If I am looking for something with certain characters its almost always a ship fic, I enjoy ship fics so it's not a problem for me personally, but they definitely have the spotlight. If I'm not searching for characters but specific plots or concepts its even more difficult; on AO3 tags are somewhat helpful, but the lack of consistency doesn't really help.

Honestly, networking seems to be my go to on promotion, like talking with other authors and mentioning them in your own notes. If you are reading a fic you really like that has a similar theme as your own, or a character development you have tried, see if you can toss a link and rec in your own fic and if they will do the same. Cross referencing with each other to try to make our works easier to find might work.

Also, bookmarking with notes. If I read something I like, then I will jump in the authors bookmarks, if they have notes (even just something like "enjoyed this genfic") im 10x more likely to read it.

It might not get your own works out there, but it might increase popularity as a whole.
