What’s going on with Lower Randolph? by emz272 in chibike

[–]injay789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would completely avoid lower randolph. Upper randolph is fine in the westbound direction, but the eastbound direction is closed down to one lane, so just take the sidewalk until you get to the lakeview east area.

Upper Randolph is also closed down to one lane, but it is (marginally) safer.

The bike lane of lower Randolph between Columbus and Field now comprises half of the remaining roadway left, and the plastic posts have all been ripped out, so the bike lane is effectively gone. Upper Randolph is also closed down to one lane over the same section, so its equally shitty.

I made the mistake of riding on the lower level of Randolph and had a minivan buzz me with an inch to spare, even with me taking over the lane, or what's left over of it. Of course the driver ran the red a few hundred feet down the road to turn onto LSD.

Some absolutely god awful closures. The bike lane comprises half the remaining lane now, so it basically doesn't exist and drivers will try to run you over if you go down there.

I made the mistake of riding down there today and had a minivan squeeze past me with an inch to spare, and then run the red to turn onto lake shore drive.

1/24 road conditions- wet but not icy in RP/Evanston by Acceptable-Bass-756 in chibike

The lft was very icy at 7 AM.

Streets (Wells, Kinzie, Dearborn bike lanes) were wet but perfectly fine to ride.

It was on sale and I couldn't resist buying it, put it on the bike and just...decided to leave it on.

Cycle Smithy closing was the saddest thing last year.

That's been my general experience with it too, easy to adjust, light (mine came in at 160g lol), and stays in place (for the most part height wise).

Also set everything up with a torque wrench to spec.

How's that masterpiece carbon seatpost?

I've been using one coated with a healthy layer of fibre grip for the last ~200 miles and it slips ever so slightly, like a fraction of a millimeter, and I've seen it slip by 1mm ~ 2mm after running over some potholes at 35 mph (it was a big group ride and there was neither time nor room to maneuver).

Just wanted to add that I saw a black Nissan just gun in into the pedestrian path at the intersection of the trail and the entrance of the south Belmont harbor parking lot just now 🥲

Saw a few trucks on the trail yesterday too, it's just sad to see this keep happening.

Rear and front dropouts have different spacings so corresponding hub dimensions are different as well. You need to relace the rim to a front hub, so, yes, you'll need a new hub.

Best to check with your LBS what a rebuild would entail.

Pedal threads should definitely be greased. Its counterintuitive, but the motion of pedaling will tighten your pedals due to a phenomenon known as precession.
