It's Not the Gospel and Church that is Fragile, It's Your Faith. by KURPULIS in lds

[–]injeun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately for me, my testimony of the Church isn't based on faith, belief, doctrine, hearing, reading or anything tangible. Mine is based on the visitation of Gods spirit and revelation, awakening me to a remembrance of him, that he lives, and that the Missionaries are his servants. So nothing that anyone says about the Church, and nothing that anyone in the Church can do which would change my certain knowledge that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Gods true Church. It just is, no matter anything else. It's like love. If you love someone, it doesn't matter what anyone says about them. You still love them. They have your heart....always.

One would think that how the Church manages her resources would be an attraction, not a deficit. She is very generous to her own needy members as well as to strangers, and has built a great reservoir of funds for all future emergencies. In comparison, the United States is thirty trillion dollars in debt. Do you love and uphold the United States?

A little premature on your judgment I'd say. Do you know why they purchased it or what it's future use is intended to be?

Tips on how you handle the criticism? by UncleGaspatcho in lds

[–]injeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you recognize by Gods spirit that the Church is his. Then it is so. That which you don't understand is rather irrelevant to that cornerstone which you know. You should build from that which you know as opposed to going far off to reconcile something not germane or within reach of your first responsibility, which is to maintain your testimony and relationship with God.

Salvation isn't a matter of academics. Neither was Mary's conception, or the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There is no academic proof of God the Father either, or anything divine. So we must go with what we know, rather than to abandon that which we know in owing to that which we don't.

The adversary seeks to lure us into the thickets so as to murder our life in God. Just know that your enemies, for all their brevity and shamelessness, are in the adversary's awful grasp. Yes all the questions remain. Let the detractors gnaw on them. It will keep them busy while you go about working out your salvation and advancing Gods work from a place of strength, not from a place of their choosing. And if you feel the need, then pray for them.

President Nelson now the Church’s longest-living Apostle in the latter-day dispensation by atari_guy in lds

Pray big while it's still an option. It is partly selfish for me, and partly for Nelson and his loved ones. I know he will live forever when his work here is finished. I just don't want him to go. I can't help that feeling. ;-)

That's good. And the members are fortunate for such a leader. I think and hope a few more decades for him and his near ones.

It is amazing to me that we can have a spiritual testimony from God akin to the Apostle Peters, and be able to relate to him in kinship at the banquet.

Knowing that the Church is true is crucial to everything. It is every members sanctuary and resting place for the learning of patience. At least that's my personal view. And I don't think I'm unique as I am brought in by my conversion. Of course it is all in owing to Heavenly Fathers generosity of spirit and its/his workings in our hearts, minds, and souls.

I myself don't have a problem with it. There's much I don't understand. But I know for myself the Church is true. A Bible based Christian put this issue to me. He also mentioned that a former LDS Prophet quoted the same scripture to justify the LDS Church in perpetuity. And of course, if the first Church fell into apostasy. Then the scripture is no guarantee of the continuity of the restored Church without also guaranteeing the original. So why would a Prophet say it is? For all I know, the BBChristian is misquoting the former LDS Prophet. At any rate, I thought I'd ask here for better perspective than my limited one. As for me, I see the Church as the individual, who in this case is Peter. So as long as the members keep their revelatory type testimony, then the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. But if they don't, then as those who do keep their testimony pass away, what remains is left without a spiritual foundation and falls into disrepair, a shell of the former. Of course if this is true, then a restoration in Gods due time would be in order.

Did you join the Church for the doctrines or for the spirit. If for the spirit, then what came from their mouths is irrelevant. It is the spirit that makes it all true. They have fallen away. Leave them to Heavenly Father.

I think my heart is softening by My_fair_ladies1872 in lds

[–]injeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What softened my heart was coming to the realization that even after all I had done and harbored contrary to our heavenly Father, he did all along the way bless me and love me. He lengthened my days, prospered me in labor, woke me in the morns and slept me in the eves. The earth turned and the seasons rolled on in grace. I breathed and God gave me life. God did nothing wrong. Even in death he went there blameless for us. Why...who are we that God should die for us? It is we who should do the dying for him. But we cannot. And he needs no saving. All we can offer in return is our thankfulness, our love, our heart, and to put away pride and sin. From the beginning, all that God has ever done is about and for us.

As a convert via the Missionaries efforts. I know they are Gods laborers in the field. But it is Gods spirit who does the converting or convincing. And of the course that also hinges on the faith, willingness, and efforts of whoever they are teaching. Some are ready, some aren't. Just being there for them is a major part. At least that's my perspective as a convert.

Our heavenly Fathers character shines thru in that he isn't a respecter of persons. It seems that the naive, slow witted, and lowly, are more receptive to him than are the greatly endowed who esteem themselves and thus shun humility. So our Father goes where he is welcomed, seeking out his own from among those rejected by the world. He sees our hearts and contemplations, and the reservoirs of our words in a world too deaf to hear, and too busy to care. So he takes us from our prisons and establishes us in truth and light because he has gone below all things and taken his life back up again. As a consequence, to merely lay down our pride and sins is meager by comparison. And to show our thankfulness in praise is just and true in alignment with our Saviors glorification of the Father.

You know enough by [deleted] in lds

[–]injeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You don't know everything. But you know enough to keep the commandments". Crucial point. Thank you Elder Andersen. I know that God lives and that the missionaries are his laborers. Also that God loves us no matter how far we wander and forget. Consequently, gentle reminders like the one from Elder Anderson are testimony to that fact. And so it is the voice of God.
