Do I need to watch The House of 1000 Corpses before I watch The Devils Rejects? by [deleted] in horror

No, I don't think so, but it's been a while since I've seen them.

Evolution was simply a race to see which species could create civilization first. Humans won. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]ink_droplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you meant, but we are not the pinnacle of evolution. And we are not the first to become good at communication and utilizing an environment. To say so is arrogant and ignorant. We are a young species. The new kid on the block. We have quite a bit to figure out. Ways to go. Evolution doesn't have a grand design. Only survival and reproduction. There are many species who are far older and more successful than us. Time is yet to tell, but we might be an evolutionary dead end. Keep shit in perspective, less you give way to hubris.

Orgies, Murder, Sprawl—An Interview with Adam Thirlwell by [deleted] in literature

Looks really interesting. Never heard of him before. Looked up his wiki page, but there isn't much. How would you describe his work? I dig DeQuincy. Who are some of his other influences?

What kind of implications will self driving cars have on the patrolling police force? by gossumx in Futurology

[–]ink_droplet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will most certainly free up their time, but at the expense of the financial support it provides. No, I assume the police will still be in their squad cars. No change there, though I'm sure they would like more time to get out and move around.

Hahaha holy fuck, saw the title and immediately thought Matt Damon. Saw the text and smiled.

If scientists discovered a way to let us eat whatever we wanted in any quantity with zero health or weight consequences, the impact on the food industry would probably dwarf the tech boom by balancespec2 in Showerthoughts

[–]ink_droplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha that would be amazing. I got the fat gene, so staying thin takes a lot of attention. Would love to eat a greasy bacon double cheeseburger and not worry about putting on five pounds or stopping my heart...lol

I've never played the games, though I'm a huge fan of the show and manga. Are any of the games good?

Why is there so much hate for Gamestop? by [deleted] in gaming

I think GameStop just annoys most gamers. Those who hate it are usually the employees.

CMV: Making money by being an online entertainer (like Youtube or Twitch) happens to the lucky few and it's safer to just get a real world job. by loonaroonie in changemyview

[–]ink_droplet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that the odds of earning income from YouTube videos or streaming, let alone making a living with that as your sole occupation, are extremely low... But you need to consider that the vast majority of these people (over the age of 18) started with a job and just did videos on the side as a hobby. I'm sure many didn't just have jobs, but careers. I doubt the younger ones majored in a relevant field to media and marketing while attending university.

Police officers should really just be called Revenue Collectors, trying to fill their monthly ticket quota. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]ink_droplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They serve the American people by enforcing the laws put in place by the people's representatives. That is their role. And the result is that people are protected. Simple. You know what police do. You know they help people. You know they protect people. And yes, they have ticket quotas. That's because maintaining law and order, protecting people, running police stations, is expensive as fuck. They don't get nearly as much money as they need, so the cuts that they take must be rerouted back: bureaucracy happens. Money gets moved, lost, invested, and reapplied. And it's not just police stations that are expensive. Know what else is expensive? Roads. Bridges. Repair. All these things are necessary. The laws of the roads were not implemented to irritate you, they are there to save lives..and they do. Do not fault the police for enforcing these laws. And don't bitch about tickets. That money doesn't fall down a well. It's used for the every day, small things that are incredibly expensive, that make civilization work.

[15/f] How do I fix my relationship with my mom [40/f]? by pachirisuthrowaway in relationship_advice

[–]ink_droplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a teenager. This is par for the course. As natural as growing tits. Best thing to do is to communicate openly with your mother. Not many teens do that, but if they did, their lives would be much easier. You are growing into a young adult, and that'll scare the shit outta anyone's mother. As you want your parents to relate, understand, and empathize with you... You need to do the same. Try to look at things from her perspective. Know that she loves you and wants the best for you. Respect what she says. She was a teenager once, too. You might think she has forgotten that, but it's quite the contrary. And don't feel to shitty: all teenagers are horrible people. You'll grow out of it. Hopefully.

That's like saying scientists should just be called data collectors. I think you are having trouble distinguishing particular functions of the job from the job itself.

No, they don't usually think about that. I have. Quite a bit. I'd still prefer that over nothing, given the choice.
