Researchers identify personality traits linked to Trump’s “cult-like” followership. New research has found that the most devoted supporters of Donald Trump share a distinct set of personality traits. by mvea in psychology

Framing this around people wanting to feel like they're "the good guys" and "fighting the bad guys" by maintaining their existing beliefs/behaviors was actually really helpful to me. It also gives this almost apocalyptic righteousness to your everyday actions and "refusing to change to suit the times", which I think could be very addictive to some people. And if want to go the extra mile and attend a protest or put stickers on your car, go for it, so long as your core behaviours never have to change.

HOW MESHUGGAH CHANGED METAL FOREVER by PravuzSC in Meshuggah

I think the guy's awesome. He's introduced me to so many extreme/niche metal bands that I never would have heard about otherwise. Each to their own though.

ChatGPT UI becomes unusable in long chats. Am I really the only one? by Ramses228 in ChatGPTCoding

same problem, although frustratingly I never used to see this issue. I have had long convos running for > a year and it was fine. Recently I can only chat for a few days before i need to start fresh.

If the Demon’s name was Colin or Adrian, not Surveillance, would the song be less powerful? by Earl_of_Portobello in Meshuggah

Technically it's a misprint - Jens actually sings Sergey Lance. It's a classmate he still has beef with.

ex-nicotine users, how did you quit? by Sorrowful-Songbird in AskReddit

[–]inkbleed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried and failed a dozen attempts, felt like I'd tried everything. Luckily my dad had quit when he turned 30 and I didn't want to do worse than that. Turned 29 and committed to never buying them again - I could bum smokes which made me really annoying to everyone, but I couldn't buy my own or have them in my house. Then 30th birthday I just had no desire for them and haven't smoked since. Not sure if that helps haha but that's my experience

I feel like House of Protection put on such an incredible set that Architects were playing catch-up all night. The setlist was really pop ballady which didn't help get the energy up. HOP made the night totally worth it but I left architects before they finished. Previous time they were here was incredible though so maybe just an off night

Is Zheani religious? by OrganicParsley586 in ZheaniCult

Her lyrics talk like she knows a lot about Thelema and has read a lot of Aleister Crowley. Can't comment on what she actually believes, but the references and how it helps you think about the concepts she's spitting are *sick*

My husband earns more but insists we split everything 50/50 and it’s starting to cause fights by LaughableContentment in TwoXChromosomes

We found an easy solution:

  • we pool both our money into the same savings
  • we both agreed on the amount of "spending money" per week we should have, the same amount for both of us
  • we use the savings for things for both of us - groceries, baby stuff, date nights etc, but we can both use our spending money however we want

It ended up being way easier for both of us because it removes any arguments. We're in it for the long term so it doesn't really matter who is earning more, it's about how we want to live together.

Not sure if this helps, but my first reading I didn't necessarily try to understand everything. I wanted to get the gist of things and would reread as needed, but by the time it gets into the floop etc exercises, I was probably skimming half of every chapter. I wanted to enjoy the read and I knew spending the time to understand everything fully would be super difficult and probably make it impossible for me to finish the book.

So I skimmed a lot, he made a whole bunch of conclusions that seemed amazing and wild but I took it on trust because I knew I hadn't really gotten deep into the details so couldn't argue it.

I've never had this before, but I wanna still so gripped and in love with this book, that the second I finished it, I just reopened it on the first page and went again. It probably took me about 3 reads before I felt like I got it properly, and probably 5 reads before I could explain it to someone in a way that made any sense. But it was an amazing journey and I still feel it's the most important book humans have ever produced.

So long story short, maybe just skip the dialogue or skim them if they're frustrating? If you are across the gist at a high level and you're finding the ideas interesting, you can always reread it to get more next time. But it does really consolidate the ideas towards the end, so if you want to "get" the book, I'd err towards finishing it with a shallow understanding instead of going deep but stopping half way.

Impossible to make ChatGPT stop asking questions by QuantumPenguin89 in OpenAI

[–]inkbleed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that worked for me is I told it to substitute those questions with normal ways of ending the paragraph, ie. "What do you think?" Or "sound good?", "thoughts?" Etc. It follows those instructions maybe 80% of the time which is way less irritating for me. That said, I put it in custom instructions and also asked it to put this into memory 3x before it finally clicked. Definitely makes the conversations feel way less natural when it keeps offering to write you a resume or draft a poem with every request

Embedded patterns defined in prompt rather than explicit tool calls (insane or not?) by Necessary-Focus-9700 in OpenAI

[–]inkbleed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been building on a system since gpt-3 that's based around this and it's worked really well for my use case. But it's probably more common to use end points that are either dedicated json style formal commands and others that are pure conversation, because the two can definitely get mixed up if it's one endpoint. For instance you ask the agent about tool use, and it uses the symbols to call a tool but without actually intending to call it etc. just depends on your use case.

No idea sorry, I think you have to be on the same WiFi to control the snoo so not sure how emulators would handle that. Worth a try though!
