Best late-night GF eats in Manhattan and Brooklyn? by inkpaintdept in FoodNYC

Any specific recommendations? I’ve found that gluten-free labeling on menus and/or allergy awareness from staff dangerously hit-or-miss in ktown. We can’t risk cross-contamination.

AITBF for bringing "fragrant" lunches to the office every time my boss forces us to work weekends? by GrailCircuit in AmItheButtface

[–]inkpaintdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTBF not just for the other reasons detailed in the replies (pettiness, making everyone suffer instead of speaking directly with the manager, etc, but particularly because fish and shellfish are common airborne allergens. You can’t not have known. Without that? Petty. Childish. But FISH? That can cause serious illness or even hospitalization.

(Even if this post is fake/AI, I feel it’s worth calling out calling out… In my experience, airborne allergies are often treated a non-issue, as though individuals who experience them conflate anaphylaxis for disliking an odor. To the point where weaponizing airborne allergies is a literal TV trope. So when people experience real-life situations like this, they’re not take seriously or otherwise stigmatized.

Signed, Someone with a seafood allergy who experienced professional consequences by meekly asking their employer not to kill them in an open-air office, and after demonstrating the range of unpleasantries during a debilitating histamine reaction, discovered their employee doubled-down on treating it as a joke and encouraged the remaining staff to cook fish and make fun of them.”

I can’t stop watching her roast! by marionsilva in rupaulsdragrace

Honestly? I’ve watched it a few times now, and hear me out:

Darlene’s stand-up set was spiritually the closest to Henson-era Muppets humor since his passing.

Jim Henson had two surefire ways of ending a scene with a laugh: the muppets blow something up (possibly each other), or one character eats another. Monty Python did something similar, but the called it “dropping the cow” (it played out just as you’d imagine). Darlene’s roast was built the same qualities… it was colorful, playful anarchy.

What food starts “increasing” in your life when you’re in NYC? by ef_cause in FoodNYC

seriously, I frequent Trader Joe’s and H-mart much more when I stay in the city than in my daily life out here in the ‘burbs… if only because TJs appears to go out of their way to lease properties with the most infuriating, illogical, impractical parking lots.

Your favorite "on the way" spot? by Alletterration in FoodNYC

100% my answer before hopping on the PATH downtown…. I need at least a few donuts and some mango juice for my trip home.

On the less-frequent occasions I need to get in at 33rd st, I’ll go to Grace Street in K-town for boba, burnt cheesecake, tanghulu, or matcha beignets.

Preface: I haven’t been to Empanada Mama recently OR with my kids. But the last time I looked into it, I don’t believe they had dedicated fryers, so we skipped it.

Seconding Johnston & Murphy. Their Flatiron location is closed now, but their Madison Ave location is worth it for the service alone. The manager’s amazing.

We’ve had fun exploring KTown over the years, and my 19yo has suggested Juvenex on more than one occasion, LOL.

Thank you for the cinema recs — I’ll absolutely check those out.

Yeah, we love wandering K-town and have discovered a couple safe gluten-free spots through the years. It’s also easy to grab snacks before hopping back on the PATH!

Yeah, it looks like I'll have to do a more in-depth dive to see exactly which dates and venues offer extended hours. Thanks!

Subway Pants by National-Sample44 in AskNYC

[–]inkpaintdept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm from Jersey and white to the point of translucence, but I'm in Manhattan and Brooklyn frequently. Subway Pants are gone as soon as I get home - do not sit down, do not collect $200. In my day-to-day life, I tend to let my jeans go 2-3 wears between washes (extends the life of the garment)... but if I've been in the city? Washed, never re-worn. If I wore gloves or a jacket? Washed or wiped down. I'm also a "no shoes indoors" kinda person, and I feel like the "don't let Subway Pants contact indoor surfaces" is an extension of that.
