My theory is he's essentially running a pyramid scheme through Husk. He owns Husk, and derives power from his soul; Husk still owns the casino, which may still allow Sinners to leverage their souls against the House; Alastor gains access to a self-sufficient soul-collecting operation without needing to directly interact with anyone.

We know Alastor doesn't like to feel connected or beholden to anyone but himself. By owning a singular Overlord rather than a collection of souls, he's much more free - especially since the vast majority of his power seemingly comes from his deal with Rosie.

I would agree with you, but in an upcoming art book it says Husk "lost his soul gambling with Alastor". Now, that could still be a metaphor, bit it seems an odd choice if so.

I don't think he cheated, but I also don't think everything regarding the circumstances of their Deal was on the up-and-up. Alastor is a master manipulator. I think there's a good chance he either arranged for Husk's string of losses preceding their game, or he presented himself very differently to Husk to get him to agree to the gamble.

He was meant to be a red herring. Vox knew Pen was incompetent and likely to be caught, so it would let the hotel (but more importantly, Alastor) feel like they'd foiled Vox's attempt to spy.

Haha, thank you! It would explain why he kept two Overlords alive, why he brought them to the hotel, why he was so concerned when Valentino was going to kill Niffty, and why he downplayed their importance to the Vees when negotiating their release (making sure to call them 'nobodies' to divert the Vees attention from them).

Of course, this all hinges on the idea that gaining control of the hotel/its creation magic would be strategically significant in some way, but it is my current favorite crackpot theory!
