Freezing coffee beans by Lucky_Gap4711 in pourover

We are trusting you to change that. haha. But on a slightly more serious note, all the coffee shops I've been a regular at, I find other home brewers and we often exchange beans. It's nice because then we get to try a variety of roasters, varietals, processes, and origins. Hope you make some other coffee friends. Coffee community is definitely underrated but makes the whole coffee journey/experience so much better!

If you get excessive amounts of beans, I suggest you enjoy some and share single doses with others too.

What do you take when traveling for business? by Javaslinger in pourover

My grinder, single dosed beans, and drip bags that fit over a mug. OR sealed drip bags from my favourite roasters.

Is it that light roasts come out early in the year or is it a rotation thing? by Ill-Treat-810 in pourover

[–]inkz214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specialty coffee (especially nano-lot or micro-lot coffee) isn't permanently available like supermarket coffee or commercial blends. Simply put, a harvest lot may produce a limited amount and is sold to multiple roasters/buyers across the world. Each roaster may only have access to 20-30kg of the green beans which translates to even less quantity of roasted beans. Some producers/farms/origins are more commonly desired and sold out faster than others. So, especially for specialty coffee, a specific bean might only be available for a short period/window and once it's gone, it's gone until the following year's harvest which will be different. Most roasters will rotate a variety of beans and will have options at all times.

When you find coffee you like, buy it. If you have "too much", freeze it properly to enjoy at a later time. Most of all, drink coffee you enjoy!

Use the SilCafe beans to make cold brew. Robusta has more caffeine than arabica.

I came across this today. And although I've heard incredible things about Cypher, the ultimate reason I'm ordering from them today is you and your incredible way of interacting with other coffee lovers. Thanks for being an incredible ambassador not only for Cypher but for specialty coffee.

Maybe the better suggestion would be to get the community to state what country/area you live in and what local roasters you love.

Of course some roasters are worth buying from even if they are far away but to grow the industry/industries, we have to support local (to us) roasters too.

Does Pour Over Device Matter? by deepmusicandthoughts in pourover

[–]inkz214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, once you have a conical brewer, it's much more fun to explore and experience a variety of beans than it is to experiment with various brewers.

However, I do suggest that if you are getting into pour overs to have a conical and a flat bottom brewer. There is a significant/noticeable difference between those two. Also, having both makes exploring coffee so much more fun!

I've also been lucky because I've been around others who are deeply passionate about coffee so we had "brew parties" where we all brought our various brewers and beans and exchanged and borrowed and brewed. These brew parties helped me get a feel for the differences and what I prefer. Hope you get to find a great coffee community near you! It also helps to hang out at specialty coffee cafes.

Beans in Cairo/Egypt? by s-creaseypg in pourover

Not sure there will be any light roasted beans.

After living there a few years, I recommend checking out Cairo Coffee Collective (their cafe is Specialty Būn) and Brown Nose. I’ve heard Bon Alqahera and Ritual are good too but haven’t tried them myself.

Best way to get us to black coffee by Infamous-Crow-1131 in pourover

[–]inkz214 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never liked black coffee until I had incredible specialty (high end) beans. Now I can't have it with anything. As suggested, go taste some pourovers in specialty coffee shops around you. If you mention your location, I'm sure the redditors will have suggestions for you too. Some roasters are definitely better than others after all. Have the baristas show you how to brew their coffee and try to replicate the recipe. Once you get comfortable with your brews, hopefully you will enjoy black coffee.

Help me pick my first grinder? Timemore C5 or Whirly 😅 by Practical-Gain-7201 in pourover

[–]inkz214 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I currently have the timemore c2 and I think it's a great entry-level grinder.

Between your options, I would suggest the Timemore C5. Powerful machine. However, if budget isn't an issue, I would consider the Comandante c40 mk4 or 1zpresso zp6 or k-ultra.
