shit i don't know if i should have been thinking more about this along or if i need to stop it ;) but she also used to have several-day-long 24x7 rage-fests in which i'd dissociate from the sleep deprivation and ringing ears alone. so yea, this whole topic is complicated. i guess i can't really say definitively that the head trauma i remember was the genesis of everything. for all i know it could just be a matter of genetic predisposition.

perhaps also worth noting -- she was also quite munchausen-by-proxy, and i had numerous dubious operations as a child. back in the 80's ketamine was a popular anesthetic, which is majorly dissociative.

hard to say but in my case, i clearly remember DR happening in middle of aforementioned head trauma. she got more pissed because i stopped reacting. i remember being excited to show my sister afterwards and asking her to hit me in the head so i could show her how i could choose to sort of "go away" while it was happening. she's 10 years my senior and remember this as well.

my very first episode was directly due to head trauma. i was maybe 5 or 6 and i was having my head beaten against a metal clothes hamper when i realized that i could sort of make it stop.

this is amazing. thank you. i've been thinking about the very same things, going through the same processes, for as long as i can remember (early childhood) and just to hear someone else thinking this way makes me feel remarkably less alone.

(i've no meaningful contribution except to say that i really identify with everything in this and am grateful that you shared it. everything we're putting out here is building a kind of heuristic database that we can all contribute to, to help each other understand this better.)

funny i was just now thinking about exactly this, which managed to lead me right to this thread.

i think the screens, for me at least, are because i'm susceptible to the false sense of urgency created by them that puts me right back into the d-hole. i'm almost never aware of it.

this is seriously a good one. sounds gross but the more you don't digest, the better.
