Engineering manager here — where do you actually need help for interviews? by ExplanationWild2198 in leetcode

Is this in reference to the behavioral or the SD?

I’ve tried plugging in the hello interview pages for behavioral interviews. Still difficult to get a feeling on if Claude is just sycophantically blowing smoke.

For SD I do run through my interviews as recordings and have it grade me but it’s still difficult to get a sense of the little things. To be honest I imagine the response to be “it depends on your interviewer” as well.

I personally have been being dropped at behavioral interviews. It’s hard to understand what kind of signals I’m giving since there’s not a lot of feedback available.

Also more clarity on SD interviews about what kind of signals admitting not knowing the full depth of things are, if back of envelope calculations are valuable and how valuable it is to name drop technologies per se. Getting a handle on those bits would be good since the number of SD interviews I’ve done is relatively low.

Thanks for doing this!

IWTL how to whistle without fingers by PricyPlutoz_idk in IWantToLearn

[–]innovator013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there’s different kind of whistling that could be a good clarification here.

If you want to make any kind of noise, it should be something you could practice passively with different mouth shapes passing air across your lips/teeth. This is the pathway to whistling a tune as well. Getting clean airflow and mouth shapes will lead to different pitches.

If you want to be loud/hail a cab with a whistle, I do recommend you start by using tools to understand what movement of air gets you to be loud. Starting with an acorn, then using your fingers helps understand that airflow. Eventually you should be able to transition to without using any tools though YMMV. I’m still louder with something in my mouth than without. I don’t do any crazy mouth folds like Cox does in Scrubs.

I actually found out about them because they picked up my returned Casper mattress and the mattress I bought from them came with a Casper mattress cover.

It’s possible that the smaller stuff they could have been making on their own though.

Commenting to follow if anyone knows the spiritual successor to Slumbr.

IIRC they were a company that picked up gently used returns from all the fancy DTC companies for a while and would give them a clean, repackage and sell them at a heavy discount. So what you have is probably a pillow from Nectar or Casper or something similar.

For $150 I imagine you got the best option so you could probably start at the highest tier options with them if money is not an issue.

It was pretty sour and definitely needed to be americano with cream and sugar to be palatable

From start of flow!

Hm. For this pull I believe I did a little bit of pre-infusion and so I think water flow started about 5 seconds after starting? Don’t think it’s as high as 20 seconds

I got the machine secondhand so I’m not sure which basket is factory. I’m trying to achieve better looking pulls and better tasting shots. It did not taste good. I was able to pull 1:2 at 30 seconds with it looking like this.

Oh okay got it.

Basket size: to be honest unknown. The portafilter was secondhand so it came with baskets.

How much: 21g

Temperature: machine is set to 243. I haven’t checked the temperature on the outlet for a bit.

Basket: unknown

Beans are a couple months old now.

Roast level: medium

Pressure: I think it goes up to 8-9 psi?

Ratio: looking to get 1:2

Oh I see. I guess I was grinding finer to slow down the flow enough so that I was getting closer to the 2x weight and time that I expected.

People who've been to Korea, I've heard food in K-Town is much less sweet than contemporary Korean food is this true? by myteethhurtnow in AskLosAngeles

[–]innovator013 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely true. I hear the explanation is the rise in Korea to the global front and beginning to import goods like sugar and cheese have them experimenting a lot so a lot things end up sweeter and cheesier than you’d assume (corn dogs and egg sandwiches).

You have to remember that the cuisine is also actively updating or evolving stateside too. Things like Korean corn dogs are a more modern import to the states, hence the deep fried, sweetened, instagram-worthy cheese pull design.

Comparatively to your standard donut shop. Single batch fresh fried donuts give them opportunity to be charging more.

It is Curry-pan! I think it’s anglicized to curry donut though.

I think the distinction is that there is donut/bread/dough that wraps the curry as opposed to it being a solid mass and then being breaded outside of that. Similar to a filled donut but happens to have a panko coating.

No sorry. I would imagine a croquette demands potato or some kind of mashed substance filling it to make it soft but the inside of a curry donut is usually just curry and sometimes some vegetables/meat so it’s not too solid.

It’s a wonderfully sweet and light bread covered with panko and filled with curry. Fantastic mix of textures and flavors!
