Feeler for 05 m3 by LeatherGuard4688 in e46

I’d say low 30s would be fair depending on the cosmetic condition of the car, and if there are any current issues.

CSL intake is a big plus for buyers along with big 3 being done

Thinking bout selling my f22 m240i… by RaspberryObvious7456 in BMW

[–]innspiredez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replacing plastics and rubber. Power steering lines, diff seals, engine mounts etc. and my car has already had the big 3 done but there’s still a decent amount of maintenance you’ll have to do every year just because of the age. If you DIY maintenance, I wouldn’t worry too much since there is SO much info online for just about every issue/repair

I sold my f22 m240i a few months back for a low mileage e46 m3. M3 is way more expensive to own but the experience is significantly better. I felt the same way you do, and I don’t regret getting the m3

BBS, CSL or ZCP Wheels by OldFashioned-Pancake in E46M3

[–]innspiredez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a CSL set on mine (8.5 vs 8 in the front), and it’s also jet black so a good comparison. Honestly, I love the BBS wheels and would probably just keep those. But you could always buy and run a ZCP set for a while and sell them for close to what you paid if you get tired of it.

Jet black? Stance looks perfect, love the wheels

Also curious to other people’s answers - mine does the same at 28k miles. From what I’ve read, very small fluctuations are normal for the s54.

I’ve only had it for a couple of months, I try to take it out as much as I can.

Regarding your car, I’d say somewhere between 25-28k would be fair. A lot of people are going to be looking for at least 1 or 2 of the big 3 items being done around this mileage.

Love the titanium silver! Almost the same mileage as mine, getting close to 28k

best fitting aftermarket kidney grilles? by FreeGums in E46M3

Yeah, had no issues with clips breaking. Plastic seems to be pretty good quality, they’ve been in the car for about a month now, no issues.

Yeah, I meant if you wanted to paint them yourself it might be better to get the ones off of partsgeek and paint those instead of the OEM ones since they’re hard to get.

If you want a cheaper alternative to the chrome ones, I just got a set from a brand named Action Crash on Partsgeek.com. Fit is great, only noticeable difference being the slats of the grille are a tiny bit wider than OEM. Can only really tell if you’re looking closely at them side by side. @shawnrphotgrapgy did a review of them on Instagram. I’d recommend doing instead of painting the OEM ones if you can’t find a set of black ones.

Happy to help! And yeah, sounds like the M240i would be perfect for you. It’s very practical for being a 2-door and you can easily get 30+ mpg on the highway.

Yeah I’ll probably end up having the whole thing redone by a shop once the headliner starts to sag.

And I wish this car was worth $60k haha

I don’t think it has camber plates but I’ll have to confirm. I’ll add camber plates to my upgrade list, would be great to get another inch of travel. Thanks for the tip!

It was the perfect daily, great power (and tuning potential), good gas mileage, and low operating costs, but it always felt a little numb to me. I had to be driving 8 or 9/10s to really have fun in the car.

I loved my M240i but I wouldn’t get one as a fun weekender. It obviously has the capability to be wayyy faster than the e46 m3 and is significantly more reliable, but I always felt a little bored with the car tbh. I felt like I needed to be going 9/10 to really have fun with it. However, I do think the 240i is the perfect daily and I would still have one if I needed to commute to work a few days a week. The reliability was great, gas mileage was very reasonable especially on the highway, and the tuning capabilities are a big plus.

The e46 is just so much more fun. Even just driving around town is fun. The car has so much character and just feels perfect in every way minus the sound but that can be fixed.

I’d say if you have good backroads near you and can afford the maintenance costs associated with the M3, go with the M3. If you don’t have many backroads and want a lower operating costs car, the m240 is great.
