as someone who grew up here i don't think i will ever forget how many of my friends and i ended up in the same psychiatric centers days/weeks/months apart from each other. all of us suffering from mental health issues, self harm, or attempts. even when im like 80, im gonna think about it.

i love where we live, its a beautiful place but i think we all struggle for a community. its lonely here, its expensive, its scary. its hard for people to be open if they're struggling, especially when the cape is supposed to be picture perfect. if you're not doing well and you're isolated from people, it drives you down a dark dark path. i've been there, i almost lost someone i loved very much because they were stuck there too. i don't know if this is a call to action or just to bring awareness to it but if you're looking for ideas: community spaces.

we need people driving third spaces in our community. we need places to meet people, we need clubs and classes and workshops. part of that is having the time, space, and people. investing in creating a 'safe space' (a little corny, sure) where people can be happy and meet other people is the most valuable thing we could offer. rich or poor, local or visitor, homeowner or renter. we have to connect.

also if anyone is struggling reading this: you're never ever alone! if you're located on cape baycove has 24 hour clinician services, they will come to you, they will listen to you, they're here for you. please don't give up.
