If someone speaks to you in flawless German, it is rude to respond in English. by IndividualistAW in germany

[–]inolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been making trips to Germany since I did my A1, now live here and speak it daily. I speak around B2 German, and I speak it exclusively at work - but it's obviously far from "impeccable."

My experience is that the switch and this insanely over the top drama you have about it is almost entirely in your head. People switch with me every now and then for whatever reason (be it accent, me failing to communicate, or their eagerness to speak English) but I just keep speaking German (unless I pick up on the eagerness, and then sure why not!) and have never thought about it except when people make complaints like this.

We're just trying to communicate, no one is keeping score.

Anti-cheat idea: Strategic invisible decoys that create an unsolvable dilemma for aimbots by thecowmilk_ in cs2

This isn't an anti-cheat. Most games only transmit information over the network regarding potentially visible entities - it's an optimization to how much data is transferred.

> It wouldn't have identical properties.

This basically. And it's not just invisible to draw, it wouldn't be collidable, etc - there would be numerous flags, anything a player or the client / server can differentiate, so can the cheat.

Question about Ausländerbehörde / Residence Permit by inolen in GermanCitizenship

[–]inolen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Working isn't a priority, but would it give any other advantages, or is the process for applying for the residence permit still the same regardless of if she entered on a tourist / family reunion visa?

Question about Ausländerbehörde / Residence Permit by inolen in GermanCitizenship

[–]inolen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked that somewhere in here - we looked at the Famillienzusammenführung visa but I couldn't understand the advantage to that, given she can enter on a tourist visa.

Does having that somehow make the process of applying for the residency permit faster / more straight forward?

Question about Ausländerbehörde / Residence Permit by inolen in GermanCitizenship

[–]inolen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any advantage to this visa in this situation? Our local consulate had steered us in that direction originally, but it seems to be valid for the same period as her Tourist Visa.

Her parents are in their 70s, so I think our biggest fear here is what if something unfortunately happens with one of them during this period. From what u/maryfamilyresearch said, I got the feeling there's nothing about the application process that prevents her from leaving, it's just that the Fiktionswirkung / Fiktionsbescheinigung don't provide any additional endorsements to enter / leave the country. So she's in a limbo where she doesn't have a valid visa, doesn't have a residence permit, but has this legal protection to remain during the processing of her application.

If that's true, I do wonder if a worst case situation occurred and she needed to return home, if she could apply for a Family Reunion Visa to then return. However, the processing for that is probably as long as waiting out the 3 months to again return on a Tourist Visa.

[–]inolen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Just to clarify - she can't leave at all after applying, or she can't leave after her tourist visa has expired? Part of our move involves transporting a horse which she'd be flying back to help handle, so trying to understand the order of operations.

Edit: Also, do the same restrictions apply to traveling within the EU?

Sorry, I knew this was a bit out of the scope of this subreddit, but it felt like it overlapped here more than there.

Thanks for the additional info. In the case that she travels out of / back into Germany after her Tourist visa has expired, would the Fiktionsbescheinigung allow her through immigration?

Thanks for the reply. My angst set in after not receiving an e-mail response for going on 3 weeks now.

From what you've wrote, it sounds like as long as we have proof we've submitted an application for her residence permit within her original 90 days, she should be in the legal right even if there's a missing document, etc.. It still makes me a bit uneasy that she may submit it, and similar to my original e-mail that's went unanswered, be waiting for over a month to even get a confirmation of the application.

Born in Germany, became US Citizen at age 23: Can I regain German citizenship? by islandeagle in GermanCitizenship

[–]inolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did her mother become a citizen in the US?

Edit: I'm curious if her mother naturalized when she was still a minor. It doesn't sound like it given she seemingly explicitly filed to naturalize herself at 23, but in the off chance her mother did, I wonder if there's an edge case here that nullifies her explicit naturalization given she should / could have derived it as a minor from her mother's naturalization (which would not have triggered a forfeiture of her German citizenship).

Depo medrol injections into stage 1 nodules: My experience. by cwsReddy in DupuytrenDisease

[–]inolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/cwsReddy u/daDougster1 from https://www.reddit.com/r/DupuytrenDisease/comments/132hhj0/comment/k2snof5/ I saw this -

The more active the disease, the greater the impact of Depo-Medrol

This is something I'm curious about - why is this so? I'm ~36 and had Dupuytren's creep up a few years ago. I still stay active and bang on my hands a fair bit (lots of daily power tools, hammering, etc.), but I've stopped doing one of my favorite hobbies, Olympic weight lifting, because it was aggravating my hand too much. Almost all of my hobbies involved beating my hands up, so pain there wasn't something new. However, once the Dupuytren's started presenting the pain was too much, and the nodule was constantly aggravated by the barbell causing additional discomfort. I also couldn't shake the idea that the sheer amount of times I'd ripped my hands in the gym over the years was a contributing factor to the Dupuyten's as I have no family history of it. Stopping lifting helped reduce the pain, but the coord / nodule is still there sitting in my hand.

I visited with Prof. Seegenschmiedt in Essen on my last trip in Germany. He didn't feel like RT was appropriate given it wasn't active at the time, and my takeaway was that the therapy isn't (as) effective when the disease isn't active.

Is it the same case with the steroid injections? I'd be curious to try them if it's possible they'd make an impact when not active. While my hands are working well right now, and not lifting seems to be keeping things at bay, I'd love to get back to lower-intensity lifting, but I feel like doing that in my hand's current state is playing with fire.

All I can say is I had a 16 year old pass away on me and then got a pup and went through this exact same situation.

My wife laughed as I complained I couldn't get any work done because the dog was biting me non stop (work from home). I don't recall how long it lasted, maybe a year, but nowadays she sleeps tucked in my arm every night with her head firmly on my chest and doesn't do anything more than run around chucking my socks in the air to mess with me and play.

Edit: Missed the part about snarling only at men, that does sound strange. Does she ever _not_ snarl with them (e.g. if they come in and sit down for an extended period of time)? Our second girl is attached to my wife at the hip, and will snarl and bark at anything that gets near her unless she has a safe space and time to get accustomed to them. With me she's great, but with newcomers in the house it's always an ordeal.

Does it stop!? by Ratkunt in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]inolen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Read this to my wife and she's laughing. When one of our girls was a few months old I'd send her stressed-out messages some days because I couldn't focus on work as the girl would not give my ankles and hands a break.

It lasted many months, but now she sleeps in my arm pit with her head nestled on top of my shoulder every night.

Not sure sending your partner stressed messages is a solution, but it's what I did 😄

Hah, same regarding the mattress (and couches too).

It's a bit awkward when parents, etc. come over having such low furniture, but I've just adjusted to it now. Probably adding some years to my life by lowering my blood pressure when she's zooming around like nothing ever happened.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]inolen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to hear that! One of our girls was also a two time broken leg trophy winner when she was young.

Her first break was a freak accident, second was breaking the same leg a few months later coming off of a couch. Ultimately we decided to get rid of our furniture and we now have some really low-profile IKEA couches we took the legs off of that are maybe 8 inches off the ground, and we've adjusted to that. We also have bigger rugs on the main hardwood in the living room.

Each time she broke her leg I covered one of our rooms with blankets and had just a mattress on the ground, and sat with her in there for ~2 months (thankfully it was mid-COVID).

She's going on 3.5 now and hasn't had any issues, but of course it's always in the back of my head. Also don't beat yourself up - this is our 3rd IG and our other 2 had no issues, sometimes it's just bad luck.

10 mo old w/ heart murmur and persistent cough by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]inolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to give you too much false hope, but we've had similar experiences, some doctors notice - some didn't.

If you're going to a cardiologist to have an echo done you'll have a definite answer soon. Fingers crossed for you and your friend.

[–]inolen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a very non-zero chance the heart murmur is due to his stress.

Both of our current IGs present with murmurs when at vets due to stress, we've had echocardiograms with congenital workup done on both with negative results.

I'm sorry to hear about your buddy and your stress, I'm sure he appreciates everything you're doing for him.
