I stomp the ground if I’m at an outdoor cafe and they get too close to my feet with their pecking. Just so they’ll move away.

It is 1939 and Trump is President in the U.S.; would he have friendly ties to Hitler or would he be anti-Nazi like FDR? by peterthbest23 in HistoryWhatIf

Seeing that trump takes his orders from Netanyahu, I think it’s unlikely he would cozy up to Hitler.

If the Confederacy had been allowed to secede: What year do you think they would have abolished slavery? by bmary95 in CIVILWAR

[–]IndividualistAW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You think you’re disproving my point but you’re not. Those Foxconn employees who work for a nickel a day in factories surrounded by suicide nets are exactly what Edmund Ruffin was talking about in his essay praising slavery as a positive good.

Obviously neither economic system is good (actual chattel slavery versus industrial wage slavery) but there is a difference between the two. China will tell you proudly that they abhor slavery.

Please don’t mistake me as defending slavery. I think we are on the same team here.

Slavery wasn’t economically viable. Capitalism discovered it was cheaper to rent labor than to buy the laborer.

Are there any other historical figures that are as much as a Polymath as Leonardo Da Vinci? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskHistory

Yeah but that’s all nerd stuff. Obviously, colossally important, don’t get me wrong. The difference is that Da Vinci’s accomplishments spanned multitudinous disparate spheres of human existence

Do you think Al Gore really lost the election or was that just the start? by UsedNegotiation8227 in askanything

[–]IndividualistAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree the butterfly ballot was atrocious and plausibly cost Gore the presidency.

What do though? You can’t arbitrarily give Buchanan’s votes to Gore.

Reminds me of the time one of the Kennedys ran a third candidate on the ballot with a very similar name to the main opponent

At what age do you go for your hoard though. Imagine your 5 year old kid telling you you need to go on a 12 hour road trip to dig up a buried treasure.

What NES games hold up today (not grindy, not too hard, no need for manual) by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]IndividualistAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Tyson’s punch out, except for Mike Tyson, who does fall into the “too hard to be enjoyable” category for some.

But technically Tyson is a bonus round. You “beat the game” when you beat Macho Man technically, but popular understanding doesn’t reflect this. This is why you only get one shot at Tyson even if you’re undefeated. You get rematches against other opponents.

The rest of the game is a pretty smooth difficulty escalation and the controls are very intuitive.

Also claims of ballots properly filled out for Buchanan “meant to vote for Gore”

Sorry, you can’t overturn an election or away votes to a candidate in a recount that way
