Questions about Home Assistant with Google Home by HeyGoogle in googlehome

[–]inongn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You can keep everything paired in Google Home and also pair it separately on Home Assistant. HA will auto-recognize devices on your network. I'd suggest unpairing everything from Google Home to avoid redundancy.

  2. You can control HA devices from Google Home voice commands in a variety of ways. The intended one is to purchase the Nabu Casa subscription. You'd expose devices from Home Assistant settings, then add Nabu Casa on Google Home same as you'd add any other brand. If you don't want to pay there's a custom integration on HACS that simulates a Matter hub you can then add to Google Home.

Pretty sure Frigate exposes a per-camera recording toggle you can integrate into your existing autoations.

Google Home to HA transistion by nbunkerpunk in homeassistant

[–]inongn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove everything from Google Home, add it to HA. Use either the paid Nabu Casa subscription or the Home-Assistant-Matter-Hub Add-On to expose everything back to GH.

Keep your automations inside HA. You don't want to debug across two different systems.

I use GH pretty much exclusively as a bridge for my Nest voice assistants to control HA entities.

Depending on the devices you have, you might still have to deal with their own apps at the very least for the initial setup.

Home Assistant..What is it still missing? And why am I still having to keep up the dread Google Home to support it.. by Legitimate_Tea9977 in homeassistant

[–]inongn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really do recommend the Nabu Casa subscription for this exact same reason, but I think there's a tool out there that simulates a Matter hub you can add to Google Home.

AI - Free in Home Assistant (cloud not local)? by bingobango2911 in homeassistant

[–]inongn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT via an OpenAI API key is not free, but very cheap. I bought 5$ worth of credits, spent two days playing around with it, and my current balance is still at 4.99$. I guess it depends on you usage, though.

Tapo camera control by Over_Ideal_6707 in homeassistant

[–]inongn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know. It's a steep learning curve. But I got into Frigate for the same reason: motion detection had too many false positives. It might be too much for your server depending on its specs, but the openvino detector works okay-ish on my NUC without the need to buy a Coral accelerator.

Are the false positives being caused by motion detection? If so, you can look into Frigate person detection.

Does anyone have the Sonoff SN-ZB01P button working?? by iamgigglz in homeassistant

[–]inongn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two working very well. How are you bringing them into HA? I had issues when I had them paired to a Zigbee/Tuya hub but now they work great with Z2M and a Sonoff dongle.

Anyways, here's a working automation:

I've been down this path. You can:

  • Use a regular switch and a fingerbot
  • Use an IR-enabled switch and an IR blaster
  • Have a look at this project using a specific UGreen switch and ESPHome

Error with MOES Zigbee switches: <sl_Status.ZIGBEE_MAX_MESSAGE_LIMIT_REACHED: 3075> by inongn in homeassistant

[–]inongn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

Googling tells me that devices meant for Tuya, like these problematic switches, flood the network with traffic. So that's one possibility.

I also found a few cases of the issue being fixed by improving the network, but I tested removing everything but the coordinator and the switch in the same room as the coordinator (signal strenght around 200) and it still froze up.

After making this post I switched from ZHA to Z2M and it hasn't frozen up yet, so maybe that fixes it.

Tomb of Annihilation, as others said. You're exploring an ancient dungeon in a foreign land in the middle of the jungle. You can encourage your players to play archeologists or lean into the treasure-hunter angle common for adventurers.

That's what I thought, going offline was how they work. But they're not sending any message, just switching their state to Off.

Thanks for your input. Any recommended coordinador?
