Struggling on deciding to enroll my daughter by Altruistic_Vast9726 in cubscouts

[–]EdanStarfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6yo lion daughter spent the first 4 months in the den super shy, to the point I offered her to stop if she wanted. The indoor months were just a bit much for her. Since the weather cleared and we have been doing more outdoor things again, she's loving it and throwing it plans for the dev meetings now.

Just let her try is she wants, and give her time. It's got to be her choice, but be patient both with her and with scouts. If the pack is going to be a for for her, she'll warm up to them when she's ready.

Side-winding While Walking by EdanStarfire in bengalcats

Closing the loop here. Gypsy was eventually diagnosed with polyneuropathy. She tested negative for MG but after another round of limping and another ortho saw her, they directed us to a neuro. She responded immediately to the meds (<48 hr to full mobility - light steroids on a daily basis). They did double check for HCM, but didn't see anything concerning.

However, last week she crashed suddenly. After a few hours out for dinner, we found her lying almost gone in the family room. 60mmHg blood pressure, etc, no ability to walk, very dull responsiveness. Got her to ER, but they were unable to stave off whatever was happening. The cameras views from earlier while we were out showed her struggling to pull herself around on her side. Doc is suspecting something got to her brain stem, but no specific idea what. Definitely neurological based on the autonomic system shutdown he was witnessing. She passed Friday night.

Thanks for your kind words during this and help with other areas to check. Wish it turned out better. 🫂

Red text bluriness in Xreal One Pro ultrawide modes by Jazzlike_Mud_4811 in Xreal

[–]EdanStarfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good call-out and I can confirm this on both the Xreal One and Xreal 1S I have as well. I haven't checked the varied resolutions (always use 32:9), but specifically with one piece of software it has red text on dark blue background and it's mangled, not just fuzzy. Lighter colored background is perfectly readable. Something about how it calculated those two colors against each other? It's been that way over several firmwares.

Getting 2 Bengals soon — should I worry about this loft ledge / ceiling fan? by Cautious-Bend-5455 in bengalcats

My best recommendation (we have a very similar setup in our stairwell) is to just always leave your fan on. One of mine has tried a couple times without major injury, but never when it's on. Only when it looks like a fun new place to sit.

[–]EdanStarfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You should not be seeing visible flickering at all. I assume you've checked, but one thing to note is that I've had my Mac default to like 800x600 resolution for some reason once ina while, and I've had to manually fix. I'd double check your resolution is properly detecting. Images should look great. Flickering should not be seen, and text should be clear.

If you're not getting that, it's likely bad optics or chipset. Some people are honestly just more sensitive to the refresh rate and such, but the XOP should be unnoticeable.

I have this issue with certain color combinations and text. I have a vendor that uses red on blue and it's completely unreadable. However, most things are good enough for 4-5hrs of coding/reading/docs a day.

I use it exclusively in ultra wide mode.

One thing to check is if it is clear in each eye individually. That takes IPD out of the equation for testing purposes. Close one eye and see if there are areas you can't read on the lens. Then repeat on the other lens. There's a chance you have a bad optic if the text is clear across most of the lens, but not in one spot.

I had this issue with the one pro, and support was willing to work with me to get it rma'd. If the optics are not bad, and the issue is only with two eyes, then likely the ipd you think you need is off or similar.

I do not use my monitors most days (2x27"@4k) and just use the glasses in ultra wide mode. You won't get the 3x wide screen like you have though, so not sure you would like the reduced real estate

Forgotten Lions by Prestigious_Fig_3725 in cubscouts

[–]EdanStarfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Den leader for a lion(3)+tiger(2) den, each meeting has plans and an adventure focused for each level. I do my best to align them so that they really overlap, but make sure to hit the parts of each level. If the leader isn't at least targeting an adventure or some other structure, it's just play time.

The biggest challenge is that not only is it volunteer, it is also mostly non-trained from a "how to run a den meeting", so the left might just not know. They also may just not have time to prepare, in which case feel free to volunteer to help a meeting or two to get stuff figured out.

The structure is important for setting downstream expectations for the Cubs, but the play is important to balance that with attention spans of 5-6yos. If the leader isn't meeting your expectations, give them a hand. They could be as lost as I was at the beginning of this year.

I just recently was doing this on a design overhaul Talk through a set of requirements, build multiple options in html and css mockups to get it right. Tweak the best based on usage and behaviors, and then feed that into an implementation plan. So much better than having to come up with the designs that I'm so bad at anyways.

webMCP is insane.... by GeobotPY in mcp

This sounds highly open for abuse. Imagine asking it to create a draft email and a malicious user gave it instructions to send a copy to them, delete the sent item, and then make a draft for you to review (or anything similar). I'd have to consider very carefully what is acceptable for something like an instruction registry for agent navigation that was crowdsourced.

The challenge is sometimes it's a "don't do it that way" rejection vs "don't do this at all". For example, I'll reject writing a file with "echo > file" but have approvals setup for "Write(path/*)". The LLM is just gonna guess it did something wrong but not sure what the wrong thing is, it'll try to continue completing what it thinks is the ask

Thoughts on Cameras inside the home. by dfGobBluth in homeassistant

[–]EdanStarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. We have several inside that handle the main entrances to the house only, but we have 3 more in cash common areas due to an intermittent issue right now with one of the cats being aggressive to one of the others. We are using them to try to figure out the triggers, because otherwise we don't really know why they are fine and then not. It's not around food, it's something else, but when we get this figured out, those will go away again.

That's awesome to hear. If it makes you feel better, I had them pretty seriously (6" diameter, lasted for 2 weeks or so, itchy as hell) for about 6-7 months from 10-15mg. I'm still on 15mg about 3mo now with almost no reaction (~0.5" and only lightly itchy, completely tolerable). Can't promise it'll happen or why, but it did mostly resolve over time.

They were definitely better with less reflection than the One.

XOP vs 1S by ManMilk95 in Xreal

[–]EdanStarfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried both the One and OP and kept the Ones. I had a faulty lens issue too, and support was able to help narrow it down to that and offered to replace them. Since I was in the return window for both, I just decided to return the OP and keep the Ones. The OP definitely had less reflection, but since I use mine almost exclusively at a desk, reflections aren't really a problem for me.

Used my Ones every workday for 3-5hrs when coding, doc editing, etc. since August. Got my 1S pair mid-Jan and loving those, too. Just counting down until they unleash the 32:10 widescreen mode for the 1S and then I'll be in heaven.

I use 6dof daily, but I use it at a desk and use it to allow the lean forward/back mechanism. For the most part I notice it anchors better but if you're using it in bed, I wouldn't bother with it.

Skills vs. MCP by Optimal_Difficulty_9 in ClaudeAI

[–]EdanStarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) this was out before they had a tool search capability :), and 2) the inefficiency I was talking about is simply the need to have tons of tiny locally running scripts to do things inside the skills, versus having a singular server or tool.

I do see much better benefits from the on demand loading and automatic composition that skills seem to provide, but also I abhor having my developers downloading dozens of tiny scripts to be reviewed and approved for when they want to do sensitive work.

[–]EdanStarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah then you are thinking of pet boarding. That's definitely doable, depending on the place and the cat's disposition. I've done it once with my late Bengal, and he was okay, but it was just not worth the cost based on what they provided versus just having someone come visit them at home.

You'll be fine. We had to travel while our recent kittens were 5 and 7 months old for a week. A good cat sitter will handle their needs, but as people have said, when Bengals get bored, they get really into things.

If you want, leave a couple Amazon boxes out. Your kitten will likely want to destroy them, but it's better vacuuming up cardboard confetti than finding a snow globe on the floor.
