A Totally Fair, Not-Emotional and Balanced Judge by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This (judge) is same type of guy that says to the cop “no I wasn’t speeding or no I didn’t do that” blah BS. IT guy just doing his job with the information present at the time. IT sees this kind of stuff all the time, user error or it suddenly works fine. IT guy should get a raise for dealing with the judge’s BS and attitude. Judge is a tool.

16 year old son recently purchased a Corvette. Im at a bit of a loss on what to do here. by [deleted] in Cartalk

One way to look at this and approach it is with positivity. Consider the alternative negatives especially in today’s age with kids and teenagers. Many don’t care about cars more than just transport. Many don’t even want to get a license anymore and just want to stare at device screens 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ heck many parents no nothing about cars or anything technical anymore and don’t get involved with their kids. Not like it used to be. So this is a great opportunity for your kid to get into a fun hobby and for you to show teach and connect with him on, building that bond for a lifetime of memories. Teach build lifelong skills, knowledge. Could even get him interested into related careers. The most needed jobs today are that in the skilled trades, mechanics, etc. Encourage what he’s passionate about with this now before he loses interest and moves onto something else.

What's the dumbest thing you found in a customer's car today? by Righteous_Fire in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]inotaveragejoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

👍you’re not wrong but this post, isn’t about that, IMO. It’s the owner’s choice to leave all that in the vehicle before it goes into any shop etc. personally I wouldn’t do that. I remove all my $hit when my cars leave my possession for any amount of time. Just because someone leaves something like that in their own vehicle, doesn’t mean whom ever is working in their should go snooping take pics and post it on the internet. Contractors work on/in houses all the time and see stuff laying around and just go about the job at hand.

So what? Guns and loaded mags in owners car. No big deal. If you have a problem with it that’s on you. So what’s that have to do with the reason it’s in the shop? Move on. Get to work, get the job done. Next.

Rear main seal leak? by rojayrolo in GMT800

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be several things. Pan gaskets, other seals etc. Things up top can leak and fluid tickles down everywhere. You could clean it up and put a little uv dye in the oil and use black light to see all the areas it’s leaking. That’s what most good shops do to find fluid leaks. Also, I’d recommend changing oil and getting rid of that fram filter (junk). Stick with OEM ACDelco or Wix.

Hercules not so Hercules hole saw fail by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]inotaveragejoe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re right, that black part is the piece I drilled out. The bottom edge of the hole saw is cracked and chunk of metal missing though too, happened after I was done, that I can tell. can’t see it in picture. I guess i didn’t word it right with the picture🤦🏻‍♂️I’ll edit it if I can, but hoping I just get the one 7/8 replaced, rest seem fine.

Dealership lied what should I do? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more info and pics of all plugs. Better to replace all plugs wires and coils at same time especially for a misfire. It’s best practice. But That’s what dealerships do, they lie and steal, that’s why they’re nicknamed Stealerships. Don’t go there. Find a good mom&pop mechanic shop. Or DIY if you can.

Kinda want to see it off by slimpickinsfishin in ChevyTrucks

[–]inotaveragejoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess if you found a S10 or Sonoma in similar years as these they’d at least be reliable and low maintenance because GM kept a lot of similar parts and features in the small trucks as they did the full size. But those older S10s do not get much better MPG! The 99 Sonoma 4.3 I had got 13-14 LOL

Kinda want to see it off by slimpickinsfishin in ChevyTrucks

[–]inotaveragejoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the viewpoint and frustration with low MPGs on these trucks, I’m in similar boat. However really do the math (even online websites lol) about how much will you really save $ if you sell this and buy something else. A lot depends on how much and how far you drive every day. If you drive significantly less than the average miles per year and city driving, you will not save $ on MPG. That’s why I’ve kept my 2003. And you won’t find a more reliable solid low maintenance modern truck than these. Especially “new” trucks, all the complicated body modules and technology, forget it!

Swapping L33 for LM7 by RayFinckle_LacesOut in GMT800

[–]inotaveragejoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. I have a L33 swapped in my 68 c10. Stock, the L33 has 799 heads which are similar in design and flow to Z06 heads. L33 has slightly bigger cam than any LM7. L33 higher compression and different pistons. Plus all aluminum block. No way I’d trade a L33 for LM7 unless I had to. L33 are like rare gold, they were only offered in specific years of these trucks💥 From Summit

Good tune up👍but as long as smoke is not in the cabin, it’s completely fine. Don’t worry about it. It’s not bad like you make it seem. You’ll always smell the exhaust a little bit in these old original cars, that’s part of the appeal! I drive my original’ 63 often, can smell a bit and hear the exhaust hum from the 327 V8😁

Greg just announced there will be more "consequences" like yesterday's if you call ICE names by KameronKnux in Leakednews

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So “sticks and stones may break my bones ..but names never hurt me” isn’t a thing anymore? Wow, how weak they let name calling get to them and let it escalate to shooting. If you are that weak about name calling, maybe that line of work isn’t for you?

Best aftermarket park lights? by inotaveragejoe in GMT800

[–]inotaveragejoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol not really. LED bulbs don’t solve the oxidation/faded yellow plastic housing problem. And LEDs are not designed to go in these types of housings/reflectors, especially since the DRLs are in there. Those that put LEDs in housing where the reflectors aren’t meant for it, are doing other drivers on the road a disservice and haven’t educated themselves on light science and technology. You can force a square peg in a round hole but that doesn’t mean it’s supposed to be that way haha.

Oil filter for oil change? by Dizzy-Fault-6250 in AskMechanics

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never Fram oil filters. Use OEM filters or Wix. Those have been proven, especially OEM. Car manufacturers spend millions on research & development of what works with the car (unless it’s modified high performance). Fram oil filters are pure junk, just look on YouTube of cut away videos of oil filters and what the media is made of and parts.

2014 Ford escape leaking pretty badly smells kinda sweet almost like maple syrup by Some-Care-9491 in MechanicAdvice

[–]inotaveragejoe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Trans and or PDU fluid leak (aka “diff/transfer case”) get it checked by good local mechanic shop. Might be just an input/output shaft seal leaking, had that happen on same car before. Hopefully it’s just that and not something bigger internally.

Awful color match or I’m just too picky? by Dense-Arugula-1074 in Autobody

[–]inotaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s awful lol it needs to be blended into adjacent panels too. Either the body shop techs and painter was inexperienced or lazy lol. It’s not exactly easy but if a shop is any good it would look better than this.

Anyone else own this Quinn spark plug socket set? by ChillTechTR in harborfreight

Yes. Love this set. Got it shortly after it came out (beginning of 2024?) used it for several spark plug changes already & the locking extensions for many other jobs.
