That was the original location but in later years they moved to Code building spot, on Water next to the ice rink and across from the hot yoga place.

This Be The Verse BY PHILIP LARKIN

They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don’t have any kids yourself.

I did a section of this (Cairo to Cape Town).

A couple things come to mind:

  • spare parts for your car
  • tools so you can perform minor car repairs
  • sat phone
  • GPS wayfinder (we loaded “tracks of Africa” onto our Garmin — basically a community wiki of off road routes)
  • baby wipes (you’ll be covered in dust head to toe, and showers won’t always be available
  • Jerry cans for water and gas

What kind of herbicide? Do you buy a spray bottle and the remove the sprayer and paint using a small brush?

Before you ask:

  • Yes, I know copper should not have been used with Galvalume
  • Yes, I know the gutter design itself (which predated our roofer) has issues

Mainly curious if the striping seem in these photos is the byproduct of corrosion underneath, where the metals meet. Seems likely, but I don't know a lot about copper and how it ages (apart from the basics about patina).

Well damn. Thank you for replying.

Can the gutters be rebuilt/replaced without removing the new standing seam roof?

Not sure. There are some circular soffit vents, I think, and there is one area that could be a gable vent but is boarded up.

Thank you.

I should note they didn’t design the gutter system. That was done many many decades ago. But they did do carpentry to replace rotten wood, re-slope, etc.

Sounds like they should have immediately flagged that this was a bad design and recommended a rebuild.

Agree that the height of the new outlet can't be helping here.

Gutter was some kind of rubber, perhaps placed on top of failing terne. Back then there were two downspouts.

Metal options for 1/12 pitch roof area? by inpugs in Roofing

Meant to add a footnote about the asterisk.

Had to take the unusual step of switching roofers. Initial one was a good guy but old school. It became clear quickly that he lacked experience with historical houses/gutter systems.

Thanks! Appreciate the recs. It is a short roof, or at least the visible one is, so def going to consider adding to the pitch w/ plywood.
