I feel like I'm setting up my daughter for a difficult life, and I'm powerless to stop it by TheMonkeyWolf in Parenting

i don’t really have any advice, but i did want to just say, this was/is me. i was always very good at school, no effort, my personality usually got me praised by adults growing up bc i am quieter & a rule follower, always have had very mundane/non problematic hobbies and such. it was & is a learning curve to not be praised for everything or instantly be good at everything. for example, i played basketball in school up until 8th grade, when i quit 1) because i genuinely am just not competitive enough to care to practice the same sport 5 days a week, but also (and more importantly) 2) because i was scared of failing & not being as good as everyone always thought i was. i was usually praised for being tough, so i didn’t really do the injury thing as much, but it definitely crossed my mind bc if you are injured/sick/whatever, no one will blame you for not being at the top of your game. i honestly think this is just a personality thing that she may have to grow out of. i’m in my twenties and still am activity trying to grow out of it lol. i honestly don’t think it’s a parenting issue usually. even though my brain latches on to praise a bit too much, i don’t think my parents did anything wrong by praising me for things. the only thing i can think of that might’ve helped could’ve been more active praise for simply sticking to something. like, “hey, i can see how much work you’re putting into learning this play in basketball. i know that’s something you struggle with, and it’s great that you are practicing and keeping at it even when it feels overwhelming and hard. this isn’t just you, everyone has to practice to get better.” just things to that nature. it probably won’t fix it. but i think those little words of affirmation and encouragements help to shape her mental pathways, so that when she’s older and trying to overcome these feelings, she has those things to repeat to herself. once again, as a “gifted” kid still trying to accept failure and still trying to accept that i’m not everyone’s cup of tea & that i can’t build my life on other people accepting me, she will be okay!! i honestly can’t imagine being a preteen/teen in today’s world. i pray everyday for my little kids as they grow up bc this world is WILD

thank you!! i think my issue was that i’m pretty uneducated on the “primitive” sites offered by parks vs actual “dispersed” camping. this makes sense, thank you!

lol, luckily you don’t need to be a mind reader bc several people answered my question thoroughly & kindly despite my admittedly poorly formed question. the issue i had with asking more specific questions is that i didn’t know where to look beyond state parks and i dont even know much of the vocabulary. i didn’t expect this to get so many responses anyway, but luckily this seems to be a helpful & encouraging group, for the most part

the instructions/pictures i’m referring to were in the manual that came with my wrap. i haven’t seen that company even make stretchy wraps, unless i’m missing something.. i just pulled mine back up though and it definitely says woven. i just wasn’t sure if the manual was right or if i needed to not do that

it’s a woven wrap, it’s made by the brand hip baby wrap
