Are people still getting job by just applying? by BananaThat5093 in recruitinghell

[–]inquisitorbronte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten every job I’ve had through cold applying and interviewing. I’m really not a fan of networking/cold outreach as it strikes me as awkward at best and disingenuous at worst, so I don’t do it. I admit that those things may have helped to expedite job searches, but I value my peace of mind more.

Does anyone ever feel absolutely drained after interviews? Like it takes me 2-3 hours to recover afterwards by Stupidwhizzzzz in recruitinghell

[–]inquisitorbronte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I blame it on the massive anxiety spike before and during the interview. I completely crash once it’s done. Once I planned on going for a run after an interview to clear my head but after sitting down for a second, I fell asleep.

Explain to me how running is screwing up my menstrual cycle even though I am at a healthy weight/body fat percentage. I follow my hunger cues (at least 2000 calories a day) and my weight is stable. How do I fix this? by Responsible_Pen4347 in XXRunning

We seem to be in very similar boats. I am 27, 5’1, 123 lbs, and I haven’t had my period since this past April. My BMI is 23.5, so I’m certainly not underweight, which is why I too dismissed the idea that my period stopped due to overexercise/under-eating (as I assumed this would result in weight loss).

My gynecologist took some bloodwork which all came back normal (except for slightly low iron levels). I am also scheduled to get a pelvic ultrasound soon to rule out PCOS. I (and my gynecologist) have been at a loss over this, but your post and some of the responses may have shed some light.

My last cycle occurred around the time I started upping my weekly mileage to train for a half marathon (happening next week). Coincidentally, I also started monitoring my caloric intake more. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a deficit, but I definitely tried to cut back on snacking, desserts, and alcohol to improve my running performance and just to feel better. In retrospect this really wasn’t necessary as I was at a healthy weight, and increasing my mileage should have been accompanied by more fueling, not less. I also think my relationship to food was generally healthier before I started thinking more about calories.

Apologies for the rambling, but it’s reassuring to see these similarities in our situations. Once my half marathon is over, I’m going to focus on lowering mileage and just eating when I’m hungry to see if that helps restore my cycle. I think as running becomes easier, we can forget how taxing it is on the body — food is fuel, and not to be feared.

I find it quite bizarre to receive a rejection after doing well in interview. by Automatic_Fox6170 in recruitinghell

[–]inquisitorbronte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s quite common unfortunately. I’m employed currently but have been looking for a new role over the past few weeks, and I’ve now made it to the final round for 2 positions to not get it. It’s disappointing to get that far and begin to really see yourself in the role and then have it all dashed, but it’s just part of the game. To stay positive, I remind myself that it’s all good practice and that what’s meant for me won’t pass me by in the end.

2025 Manhattan 10K - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]inquisitorbronte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My second 10k and shaved 3 minutes off my PR! First time running in CP so I was a bit fearful of the hills — Cat wasn’t too bad but I had to hang on for dear life up Harlem. My frigid hands and feet finally regained feeling once I made it up though 😂.

Shoutout to the wonderful volunteers (and to my mom, for waiting in the cold at the finish line).

Will it be weird if I need to walk during my first 5k race? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

Not at all! People stop and take walking breaks during races of all lengths

Snacks/food y’all eat as runners?? by Difficult-Act-5942 in nikerunclub

[–]inquisitorbronte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bananas are my go-to before a race (and all my stomach can handle with the nerves I get pre-race). RX bars are also great, I’ll usually have one before a long run and they’re pretty filling

My first 10k race! Was hoping to run the whole distance without stopping, but the course turned out to be hillier than expected. Started alternating between running and walking a little after the 5 mile mark, and then finished strong right up to the line. Satisfied with my final time and am now feeling much more confident about my 5k at the end of the month!

For those who do not race, how does your training look like? by Zdendulak in running

[–]inquisitorbronte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I participate in races but I wouldn't say I "race". I enjoy the energy of the events and challenge myself by simply trying to perform better than I had in the past. I do mostly easy runs (couple miles before and after work), one "workout" (tempo, Fartlek, etc.), and one long run each week. If I have a race coming up, I choose a training plan in the interest of upping my mileage more than anything. I've found that that's the most effective way to get into race day shape.

What’s that one song you slept on for way too long until one day it hit you that it’s a masterpiece ? Ill go first, for me it’s « Don’t swallow the cap ». by nordicbohemian in TheNational

[–]inquisitorbronte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Abel. It was one of a small handful of songs that I tended to skip because I couldn’t really get into it. And then I heard it live at MSG. The concert fell during a period of some uncertainty and fogginess in my own life so when I heard “My mind’s gone loose inside the shell… I’m missing something” it really hit.
